His vision blurred, swimming in and out of focus like a broken reel of a film, as he tried to make sense of the disorienting situation. For a moment, he was sure he was still dying. Bleeding out, choking on his own screams that weren’t leaving his throat. Slowly, the world around him sharpened into focus. He wasn’t dead anymore. He could feel the hum of the station around him, the clanking of machinery and the soft whir of electronics.

His surroundings came into view: smooth, sterile metallic walls; overhead lights casting pure white light; and consoles blinking with familiar displays. The faint vibration beneath his feet told him he was somewhere in motion.

Roy blinked, his hand flying to his chest, then arms, then legs. He was whole. Not torn apart. There was no blood or pain.

“... What?” The word slipped out before he could stop it.

He staggered back a step, staring at the blinking monitors and the sterile lights overhead. On the main display, a black hole loomed in orbit – ESO 243-49, calm, eternal, and impossible.

He was in a space station.

His stomach twisted. No. No, this isn’t right.

“I…I’m dead,” he whispered. “I died, I remember –”

The axe. The Screaming. The pain.

IT WAS ALL REAL.

His body should still be in that alley, cooling on the pavement.

But did that all really happen? If all of that really happened, why was he here then?

“Is this… a dream?” The words sounded pathetic, even to him. But nothing else made sense.

Or could it be that it was a dream all along?

The hum of machinery vibrated in his bones. The cold air bit at his skin. His heart slammed in his chest, too real, too steady for a dream.

But wasn’t that what dreams always felt like? Actually, he and I don’t even remember anymore.

Roy clutched the edge of the console, his knuckles white. The more he tried to ground himself, the more unreal everything became. His memories tangled together: his death, his regrets, and that witch's smile.

And now this.

This world felt solid, or was it that this or that world felt solid? Was this the dream or that dream? Honestly, Roy was absolutely confused.

This was real, yet fake.

He laughed weakly; the sound was cracked and dry. “Yeah… no kidding.”

The silence pressed back against him, heavy and suffocating, broken only by the ship’s systems humming around him. He looked at the black hole outside, its spiralling darkness looking back at him, almost mocking him.

Roy then started thinking to himself, 'This can’t be resurrection, as I would have to be alive in my own body.' Roy has had this feeling ever since he woke up that this was not his own body.

He felt that his left hand was more dominant than his right, and he had another hairstyle, and everything just felt wrong to him.

If it is not resurrection, then what is it? Was he alive again? Or is this a made-up land of the brain just before it dies? Was Roy actually still dying in that alley, or was his mind just hallucinating his way into madness?

Or … Was he somewhere else entirely?

The thought struck him like a whisper in the dark. It's not resurrection; it's not rebirth; it's something else that can’t be named.

“Did I cross from one life to another… Or was I …”

“Ok, that's stupid; thats all just fantasy and dreams…” He murmured.

That's it; he must have been dreaming that whole thing up.

All of that was just a dream, simply put, a nightmare.

The comms panel crackled suddenly, making Roy jump.

“... Roy?” a man’s voice. Hesitant. Distant. “Are you… talking to yourself?”

Roy blinked, his mind snapping back to the present, realising how unhinged he must’ve sounded. Muttering nonsense.

“You’re kind of freaking me out, man.” The man added, trying to sound playful but failing to hide the unease.

Roy rubbed a hand over his face, shaking. “Yeah. Sorry. Just… thinking out loud.”

The man was quiet for a moment, then his voice came softer. “Alright, just … don’t lose it on me, okay? We’re already too close to the end.”

The curtains parted.Sunlight spilt into the corridor, and the noise hit like a wave. The previous fight was apparently amazing, and the crowd had the same hype carrying on. Chants, cheers and stomping feet shook the stone beneath him. The air was thick with dust and anticipation, the smell of sweat and steel riding on it.Lucian Draeve stepped out first, shoulders squared, waving to the crowd like he was already the victor. His dark jacket fluttered in the breeze, and the gold trim along its edges caught the light just enough to draw attention. The man knew how to make an entrance.Roy followed a few steps behind, hands in his pockets, expression flat. He scanned the arena with the slow disinterest of someone checking the weather.Above them, the announcer’s voice boomed. “Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise for the next match in the Tournament of Richt! On one side, heir to the prestigious Draeve Foundation, undefeated in his last twelve official duels: Lucian Draeve!”The crowd

Roy was adjusting the cuff of his sleeve in the toilet. the toilet was beautiful with clean ceramic white flooring and golden trims running across the edges of the floor and plus, there is even backlighting from the mirror which made everything shine brighter, when someone’s shadow fell over himHe glanced back; another competitor, roughly his height, had a sharp suit-like uniform. It was red and black, and now that Roy was thinking about it, that was such an odd mixture of colour under his arena gear, and his hair was slicked back like he thought he was here for a magazine cover shoot.“Name’s Lucian Draeve,” the boy said, extending a hand. His voice was smooth, like it had been practised in a mirror. “You’re my next match.”Roy shook the hand lazily. “Ok? Congratulat

“Are you ready to dance, brochacho?” Ringo called, with a Wild West stance.Tanaka lowered his stance, breathing in deep. “Si, partner.”The bell rang and their battle began.Ringo moved first. His feet barely touched the dirt before he was in front of Tanaka, arm snapping out, Ringo slightly hitting his jaw. The air buckled where his punch passed, a warped shimmer like heat rising off stone.Tanaka sidestepped.Or tried to.The shimmer followed him.The impact came a split second later, invisible and delayed, like the bunch had been stored and then released within him.

The train station at the city’s edge dumped them into a chaotic sprawl of noise, colour and dust. Even though it was early in the morning, around 7 am, the city was already alive. Banners fluttered like war flags above the plaza from all across the world, each boasting a different guild, nation or sponsor. Tournament officials in navy coats moved the crowd, guiding participants toward various side gates, scanning IDs, and barking out block assignments over the clamour. The scent of cheap coffee, fried batter, and too many bodies hung heavy in the warm air. Kieran tilted his head back, taking it all in. “Damn. This is just the prelim site?” Looks like a colosseum… If it was surrounded by baby Colosseums," Roy said, nodding toward the clus

The clatter of steel filled the air; it wasn’t wild or chaotic but rhythmic, like a pulse—steady, relentless, and almost meditative. Each strike echoed through the training hall, bouncing off the concrete walls and settling into the cold floor like a heartbeat refusing to slow.Kieran moved like a machine: calculated, fast, efficient. Every motion was stripped of excess, reduced to pure function. His eyes stayed locked on his opponent, unblinking, unyielding. Across from him, Tanaka stood his ground, his breathing steady despite the sweat gathering at his jawline. His grip tightened around the wooden sword, knuckles pale, but his stance remained firm. They had been going back and forth for nearly half an hour, neither speaking, both locked into that rare kind of silent understanding that came only from shared frustration and the need to hit something that wouldn’t break.Another clash—sharp, decisive. Kieran twisted his blade with a precision that bordered on unnatural, forcing Tanaka

Roy sipped from his cup and made a face. “Why do these people always do Mango dirty, and why is it kind of sour?” “Sour? This is the nectar of the gods.” Liam raised his own cup and had a sip. “Goddamn, this is sour.” Roy narrowed his eyes at the drink like it had insulted the fruit he liked most. “No, this is how they get you. First, it's kind of sour, but it leaves you with a sweet aftertaste, making you want to drink more. Next thing you know, you’ve bought three bottles and are crying in the shower.”Liam snorted. “Damn, bro, that’s deep.”“Exactly,” Roy muttered, taking another reluctant sip. “It’s always the simple things that kill you.”The two of them sat on the edge of a fountain in the market square, the sky melting into a soft golden hue. The evening crowd thinned around them as vendors started packing up, though laughter and the distant hum of street musicians still lingered in the air like smoke.Roy glanced down at the half-empty grocery bag by his feet and sighed. “Do
