Chapter 2

Author: Washing Wheat
"You can leave the room once your affection levels reach 80," the staff member explained.

Everyone thought it would spike instantly. But both of their readings stayed stuck at 68.

Behind closed doors, Eddie and Bella had done everything there was to do. On camera, they were suddenly perfectly restrained.

Bella sat by the doorway.

Eddie stood out on the balcony, breathing in the night air. Through the edge of the glass, he could see my room.

Logan still hadn't arrived. I was alone, sitting on the edge of the bed with the affection meter watch on my wrist.

Then came a knock at the door.

I looked up.

A baseball cap shadowed half his face. Damp strands of hair carried the mist from the thermal spring.

He smelled like late rain.

The livestream chat exploded instantly.

"My first love is back!"

"Logan is so hot! There's no comparison."

"You need to wear this," I said, handing him the other affection meter watch.

Eddie hated being told he looked like Logan.

In our first year of marriage, we were walking at dawn when I stopped in front of a giant luxury billboard of Logan. I couldn't take my eyes off it.

Eddie had pulled his cap down over my head, blocking my view, and said jealously, "I knew that's the type you like."

Now, in the other room, Eddie stood on the balcony and clearly saw Logan enter mine and close the door behind him.

But he didn't care.

He knew that Logan, the man he could never surpass and secretly envied, had only married Bella because of a contract.

Logan didn't even like the beautiful actress. There was no way he would ever fall for me, a plain, divorced nobody that even Eddie despised.

Eddie let out a soft scoff, looking completely unconcerned. Yet, he carefully observed my reaction.

"Nice to meet you, Alisson."

My affection rate stayed at 50 as I extended my hand.

"Nice to meet you, Logan."

He shook it.

A few seconds later, the watch suddenly let out a sharp, piercing alarm.

Logan's affection level jumped straight to 100, but he himself stayed completely calm.

"It's broken," he said flatly.

After switching watches, everything returned to normal.

On Eddie and Bella's side, after a few rounds of couple games, their affection level climbed past 80, and they left the room early.

On my side, Logan's affection level stayed at 25 the entire time. It was almost nonexistent.

I asked the staff, "If it never goes above the limit, do we have to stay here overnight?"

Logan heard me. He stood tall and quiet in a thin black hoodie, his gaze distant.

"It counts as a failed mission. You can leave after an hour," the staff replied.

We were the last to come out.

"This is such a flop."

"They have zero chemistry."

"Get her out of here. Can we stop showing her? I only want Eddie and Bella."

The chat was overwhelmingly negative until the live stream ended.

In the interview rooms afterward, cameras and lights filled the space.

Eddie stood in a corner, watching Bella being interviewed. His eyes briefly landed on me.

"Feeling excited?" he asked me out of nowhere. "Was there a moment you thought that Logan might fall for you?"

I ignored him and turned away, but he stepped in front of me.

"My gosh, Alisson," he said casually, hands in his pockets and head tilted. "The more I think about it, the more I realize divorcing you was the right choice."

Someone passed by, and he immediately straightened up again.

He was back to that warm, gentle, slightly broken image as if I was the one who had hurt him the most.

Bella finished her interview and walked over under everyone's gaze. She took my hand. "Alisson, treasure Eddie. He really does love you."

A red string bracelet hung from her wrist.

I had seen that bracelet.

Last year on our anniversary, Eddie had something like it in his pocket.

He would curl up beside her, holding her hand to keep it warm.He loved her unconditionally, simply because she was his mother. It wasn't until high school that he discovered that his mother had been destroying another family. He tracked the family down and found out where they lived. He hadn

People could only truly comprehend the pain once the weapon was turned on them.Eddie had always functioned under that logic. He firmly believed that if he managed to drag Logan's and my reputations through the mud, I would crawl back to him.But even Eddie couldn't distinguish the true driving force behind his impending retaliation. Was it born out of the sheer humiliation of my departure, or was it fueled by the fact that for years, anyone in the industry who looked at him immediately brought up Logan? That desire to destroy, born from being overshadowed for far too long, was more consuming than ever.He hired a team to completely re-edit the entire season of the divorce reality show, compiling it into a finalized, uncut series. He deliberately scheduled the release for the exact day Logan was set to take the stage and accept his award.Eddie posted a single statement on his Twitter account. "She's the one who cheated. We're already divorced."The internet exploded. Eddie an

I wouldn't create extra hassle for the crew.Louie hesitated, stammering over his words.Already thoroughly agitated by the throbbing pain in his forehead, Eddie snatched the paper right out of his hand to read it himself. It was a completely ordinary registration ledger—old, faded, and clearly a photocopy. It kept track of the monthly rent payments for a rental apartment. The registered tenant was me.It was 80 dollars a month.Every month, the person making the payment had to sign their name to verify it.Yet that signature was an exact match to the bold, reckless handwriting currently being scrawled across a media backdrop on a film festival red carpet, a dozen flight hours away. That was Logan's signature.…Nivoria's summers were notoriously long, stifling, and humid.I crossed paths with Logan again during the summer break of my sophomore year of college.I was working at a tutoring center on the third floor, while he was doing freelance modeling on the floor above.

Tyler had assured Eddie that the preliminary hype had generated enough traction, and they could likely announce our divorce in the next episode. The strategy was to make me the evil woman so Eddie could play the part of the heartbroken, scorned husband. Then, in the season finale, Bella would swoop in to heal his broken heart. They'd serve up some sweet romantic moments, and their reputations would be perfectly laundered.Tyler warned him, "This next episode is critical. No matter what happens, you cannot lose your temper."Eddie sipped his coffee, his gaze drifting lazily over to me. Feeling entirely victorious, he gave a careless grunt. "What could possibly happen?"When he hung up, he knew that I had heard every single word. But he was entirely confident that even with that knowledge, I couldn't do anything. After all, I had signed an NDA and walked away with a massive settlement. To this day, he was still funneling money into my bank account."Does it hurt?"His eyes flippe

Before I could hang up, Eddie said, "Either way, Bella is crying. She's unhappy, and you're entirely to blame for it."His voice was sharp with impatience. "Alisson, you need to apologize.""Eddie, are you actually upset because Bella is unhappy, or are you just throwing a tantrum because your loyal fans are jumping ship?"I struck a nerve, and his tone suddenly turned cold. "Are you seriously letting all this get to your head? You actually believe the garbage those netizens are spouting about you and Logan? Well, maybe you should just fall for him."He let out a mocking laugh, his tone dripping with arrogance. "Stop loving me. It's exhausting anyway."In the past, whenever our arguments reached this point, I would have backed down. But this time, I blurted, "Okay.""I knew you wouldn't agree. You've always been so spineless—"The rehearsed insult tumbled out of him automatically, and it took him a second to realize what I had actually said."What did you say?"He had heard m
