Chapter 1

Author: Washing Wheat
After my divorce from Eddie Hancock, everyone expected me to cling to him.

Back when Eddie was at the peak of his career, he publicly announced our marriage. Afterward, he shifted into serious acting roles. Every time he won an award, people would ask, "Why does she deserve him? She's so lucky."

I was the one who asked for the divorce.

I used to sit at home every day, flipping through the calendar, waiting for him to come back. Whenever I called, he'd brush me off with work excuses and hang up.

Until a few months ago, when I ran into Bella Mason, the actress from Eddie's new drama, in first class.

She greeted me warmly, smiling the whole time.

"You know what?" she whispered in my ear. "This flight was paid for with his card."

She did it on purpose.

That was when I finally realized that Bella had been wearing his clothes, using matching phone cases with him, and playing his wife on set the whole time.

Just as she wanted, I packed my things and moved out within half an hour of getting home.

I didn't want something another woman had already touched.

Eddie leaned against the doorway and watched me. His reaction was calm. He only asked one thing. "Do you need anything else?"

"Your phone."

He froze for a second, then handed it over.

During the years he loved me most, I stayed by his side as he climbed from nobody to an award-winning actor. Back then, I was always pinned at the top of his messages.

Now, my chat was muted.

He told me he truly loved Bella. He gave me all the money he'd earned over the years, and all he wanted was for me to let him go as soon as possible.

After signing the divorce NDA, I thought we'd never cross paths again.

But last month, someone contacted me about joining a reality show.

I stopped outside the lounge and overheard Eddie's manager, Tyler Grant, talking to him.

"The fans can't find out you cheated. Your drama's about to air. Even though you're divorced, you're still the nation's top actor. She's just some nobody people can laugh at.

"So just lie to her. Tell her it's a divorce reality show and act like there's still a chance to fix things. She'll do everything to please you.

"Then once the editing's done, the audience will think she's clingy and annoying, while you keep your devoted-man image. Everybody wins."

Eddie had his legs stretched across the coffee table. He was lazily gaming on his phone.

"Okay," he casually replied.

Tyler nudged him. "Trust me. The second you crook your finger, she'll come crawling back and thank you for it."

The divorce reality show would air during the promotion period for Eddie and Bella's new drama, all to hype up their onscreen chemistry.

The theme of the show was "changing lifestyles to uncover problems in marriage".

Bella would share a room with Eddie.

And I would share a room with Bella's husband, Logan Barnes.

He was a former superstar who became famous at 19 from a single drama and swept every major acting award. But one day, he suddenly retired at the height of his fame to get married.

Eddie's rise to fame came from his near 70% resemblance to Logan.

Rumor had it that Bella and Logan barely lived together after marriage.

She loved him but never had him.

At the hot spring resort, two rooms were separated by a wall. The entire show was livestreamed.

There was a studio panel inside, and comments from the live audience flooded in online.

"Eddie and Bella are actually on a divorce reality show together? Sharing a room, too? This is insane!"

"Their chemistry is unreal. They look so good together."

"I told you Eddie and his wife had no real feelings left. Nobody likes being stuck with dead weight forever."

"I've been waiting for them to divorce for ages!"

"Was he blind? He used to love her so much…"

"Bella's so polite. She doesn't even dare get too close to him."

"Eddie, stop holding back. We support you!"

The staff fastened affection meter watches onto Eddie's and Bella's wrists.

"Alisson, that's not possible," Gracie said. She told me that if Logan were truly that naive and innocent, he would never have survived to see this day.The catastrophic upbringing people joked about online was Logan's literal reality. He was born in a public restroom. He had no idea who his biological father was, so he grew up entirely at the mercy of his mother.By the age of seven, he had already learned how to buy groceries and cook.He spent his childhood watching his mother get drunk and listening to her get beaten over and over again by his stepfather, yet she could never bring herself to leave him.Back then, Logan would carefully apply medicine to her wounds after every beating. He would curl up beside her, holding her hand to keep it warm.He loved her unconditionally, simply because she was his mother. It wasn't until high school that he discovered that his mother had been destroying another family. He tracked the family down and found out where they lived. He hadn

People could only truly comprehend the pain once the weapon was turned on them.Eddie had always functioned under that logic. He firmly believed that if he managed to drag Logan's and my reputations through the mud, I would crawl back to him.But even Eddie couldn't distinguish the true driving force behind his impending retaliation. Was it born out of the sheer humiliation of my departure, or was it fueled by the fact that for years, anyone in the industry who looked at him immediately brought up Logan? That desire to destroy, born from being overshadowed for far too long, was more consuming than ever.He hired a team to completely re-edit the entire season of the divorce reality show, compiling it into a finalized, uncut series. He deliberately scheduled the release for the exact day Logan was set to take the stage and accept his award.Eddie posted a single statement on his Twitter account. "She's the one who cheated. We're already divorced."The internet exploded. Eddie an

Everyone assumed that Eddie had been hospitalized out of sheer, heartbreaking grief over his lost love. The story shot straight to the top of the trending list. When Eddie regained consciousness, I was back at the hotel packing up my things. He scanned the ward.Bella was keeping watch by his bedside, but I was nowhere to be found."Where's my wife?" he asked her.Bella's hands shook with rage, and she slapped his face several times.Production on the reality show was officially halted and postponed indefinitely.Bella came to see me one last time. She had already won Eddie over, yet she still felt the need to assert her presence in front of me.It was as if their love story required my participation just to have an anchor. But things were shifting. Eddie was growing weary of Bella's emotional outbursts, and she was beginning to unravel under his cold indifference. They were looking more and more like Eddie and me from the old days.Once the initial passion faded, they wer

I wouldn't create extra hassle for the crew.Louie hesitated, stammering over his words.Already thoroughly agitated by the throbbing pain in his forehead, Eddie snatched the paper right out of his hand to read it himself. It was a completely ordinary registration ledger—old, faded, and clearly a photocopy. It kept track of the monthly rent payments for a rental apartment. The registered tenant was me.It was 80 dollars a month.Every month, the person making the payment had to sign their name to verify it.Yet that signature was an exact match to the bold, reckless handwriting currently being scrawled across a media backdrop on a film festival red carpet, a dozen flight hours away. That was Logan's signature.…Nivoria's summers were notoriously long, stifling, and humid.I crossed paths with Logan again during the summer break of my sophomore year of college.I was working at a tutoring center on the third floor, while he was doing freelance modeling on the floor above.

Tyler had assured Eddie that the preliminary hype had generated enough traction, and they could likely announce our divorce in the next episode. The strategy was to make me the evil woman so Eddie could play the part of the heartbroken, scorned husband. Then, in the season finale, Bella would swoop in to heal his broken heart. They'd serve up some sweet romantic moments, and their reputations would be perfectly laundered.Tyler warned him, "This next episode is critical. No matter what happens, you cannot lose your temper."Eddie sipped his coffee, his gaze drifting lazily over to me. Feeling entirely victorious, he gave a careless grunt. "What could possibly happen?"When he hung up, he knew that I had heard every single word. But he was entirely confident that even with that knowledge, I couldn't do anything. After all, I had signed an NDA and walked away with a massive settlement. To this day, he was still funneling money into my bank account."Does it hurt?"His eyes flippe

Before I could hang up, Eddie said, "Either way, Bella is crying. She's unhappy, and you're entirely to blame for it."His voice was sharp with impatience. "Alisson, you need to apologize.""Eddie, are you actually upset because Bella is unhappy, or are you just throwing a tantrum because your loyal fans are jumping ship?"I struck a nerve, and his tone suddenly turned cold. "Are you seriously letting all this get to your head? You actually believe the garbage those netizens are spouting about you and Logan? Well, maybe you should just fall for him."He let out a mocking laugh, his tone dripping with arrogance. "Stop loving me. It's exhausting anyway."In the past, whenever our arguments reached this point, I would have backed down. But this time, I blurted, "Okay.""I knew you wouldn't agree. You've always been so spineless—"The rehearsed insult tumbled out of him automatically, and it took him a second to realize what I had actually said."What did you say?"He had heard m
