Chapter 4

Autor: White Warbler
Laura's expression shifted at once. "What did you just say?"

Kelvin shot me a cold smirk. He then grabbed the box cutter on the desk and held it to his throat.

"Laura, for the sake of your career and your reputation, I might as well just die!"

Justin and Amber came rushing in too. Amber threw a stack of photos right in my face. "Look at the mess you made, Nathan!"

Photos scattered all over the floor. Every single one showed Kelvin at a nightclub, surrounded by women who were flirting with him.

The online exposé that went viral contained those pictures as well.

The comment section had done a complete 180, calling Laura a fool for marrying a gigolo. Even her suppliers were disgusted by the scandal and started pulling their investments.

Laura stared at the photos, the fury in her eyes so intense that it could practically burn me alive. She got closer to me, her eyes glistening with tears. "Why would you do this?"

I shook my head frantically. "It wasn't me…"

"One is your own little sister, and the other is your best friend. Are you saying they'd both set you up? Nathan, I gave you a chance. You brought this on yourself!"

The next second, she made a call. "Stop all medical treatment for Grace Coffey! Throw her out of the ICU!"

"No!"

I grabbed her, desperately clinging to her legs. "Laura, my grandma is in critical condition! You can't do this!"

Laura's eyes were bloodshot. She gritted her teeth. "If you want me to spare her, apologize to Kelvin, and go live to clear things up."

She shook me off before storming out. I dropped to my knees in front of Kelvin, my head bowed. "I'm sorry… As long as you save my grandma, I'll do anything you want."

The Kelvin who'd been playing the perfect victim suddenly sneered. He used the box cutter to flick my hand away.

"Anything? Okay. I want you to stay on your knees, look right into the camera, and say you're a gigolo. And I want you to beg to be kept."

I bit my lip so hard that it bled and nodded. Kelvin started a livestream, smiling smugly. "Go on. Say it to the camera."

Amber finally couldn't take it anymore, saying, "Kelvin, if you take this too far, Laura's going to be mad…"

Kelvin shot her a glare, then slapped my face hard. "Say it!"

My lips trembled as humiliation and anger churned within me. "I… I am…"

Kelvin punched me hard. "I can't hear you!"

My vision blurred, my whole body shaking. "I'm a gigolo… I want to be kept…"

Kelvin smirked and raised an eyebrow at the camera. "Alright, everyone, get this livestream to 100,000 likes, and he'll sleep with you for free. We're only 30,000 likes away!"

The comments section went absolutely wild. Some were tearing me apart, some were laughing, and some were just there to enjoy the show. Likes and gifts kept pouring in.

Right then, my phone rang. The hospital delivered the news I'd been dreading. "I'm so sorry, Mr. Walker. Your grandmother just passed away… Please accept our deepest condolences."

It felt like someone had ripped a piece of my heart out. The pain was so intense I could barely breathe.

Hatred and humiliation fueled a wildfire that burned away my last shred of sanity. I snatched the box cutter from Kelvin's hand and lunged at him.

"Watch out!"

Justin shoved me hard. Kelvin barely managed to dodge, stumbling backward toward the door just as Laura walked in.

Still shaken, Kelvin pointed at me, playing the terrified victim. "Nathan, just because you can't have her, you try to kill me? You're a fucking psycho…"

Laura's gaze snapped to me, instantly turning as cold as ice. "Nathan Walker, look at the way you're acting. All you had to do was apologize. Is that really so hard?"

I mused, "Apologize? Hahaha! Apologize…"

I laughed, but I couldn't stop the tears from falling.

Laura froze. She had never seen me lose it like this. She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, I raised the box cutter and drove it straight into my own chest.

Blood came gushing out. "You want an apology? Why don't I give up my life as an apology then?"

Laura immediately lost her composure, her face turning deathly white.

  • Everyone but Me Knew She'd Marry Him   Chapter 10

A year later, I got married in Merovia. ZIt was a small wedding, held in a little chapel on the outskirts of the city, tucked among rows of hydrangeas.I stood there in my tuxedo, standing across from the woman who'd been by my side every day, sharing everything from grocery runs to quiet walks. Her palms were sweaty from nerves, and her voice shook when she said, "I do."I smiled and said, "I do too."As we exchanged rings, a sudden breeze blew in through the window. The hydrangeas swayed gently in the breeze. I instinctively glanced toward the door, but there was no one there. There weren't many guests, just a few coworkers from Merovia. No one whooped or cheered. No one was tossing flower petals into the air. It was quiet and simple, much like the two of us.I looked down at the simple band on my finger, and surprisingly, my heart felt full. It turned out that one didn't need the whole world's attention to be happy. Only later did I find out that Laura had shown up that d

  • Everyone but Me Knew She'd Marry Him   Chapter 9

For the next month, Laura was like a weed I just couldn't get rid of, showing up every day to pester me.And every time, security would send her packing. By the fourth month, Amber showed up. She was still the same as ever, crying the second things got tough. When the company found out that she'd been cooking the books, HR wanted to fire her.Since Laura had already washed her hands of Amber, Amber decided to kneel outside my company. She wanted to stay there no matter how hard the sun beat down on her or how heavily it rained, hoping I'd eventually cave and ask Laura to help her. This sister of mine was spoiled rotten by my grandma and me. She'd never been through any real hardships, and she was far too easily manipulated. But this time, she needed to learn her lesson the hard way.I ignored her. She only lasted 15 minutes before she couldn't take it anymore, pulling out a knife and threatening to hurt herself to force me out.I didn't even show my face and just called the

By my second month working in Merovia, Laura had tracked me down. I didn't avoid her. There was just no point in running from someone who wasn't worth my time.It was incredibly windy that day. Laura standing outside my office building drew stares from everyone passing by.The second she saw me walk out, she rushed over. "Nathan, can we get back together? I know I wronged you. I'm sorry."I let out a chuckle. "Ms. Hartman, what exactly are you to me right now? An ex-girlfriend? A friend? Or an ex-fiancee?"Her face fell. "Nathan, don't be like this. I got played by Kelvin, and I've already divorced him. Can't we start over? I swear I'll only have eyes for you for the rest of my life. I'll never make the same mistake again."As she spoke, she pulled a ring from her pocket and dropped to one knee in front of me. A crowd started gathering. Camera flashes went off, and people cheered and egged us on."Say yes to her!"As the crowd cheered around us, I took the gold ring from her h

Kelvin waited in the room for a long time, only to realize that Laura wasn't going to come upstairs to coax him.He stayed wide awake until dawn. It wasn't until the housekeeper knocked and asked him to come down for breakfast that he realized Laura had already left.He had all this pent-up anger with no way to release it, so he called Amber and Justin. Ten minutes later, the two of them showed up in front of him."Didn't you say you'd help me get rid of Nathan for good so that Laura would only have eyes for me? So why is Laura unwilling to come to me now that he's gone?"Justin replied coolly, "Kelvin, we could only help you get him out of the picture. Anything beyond that isn't in our wheelhouse. How is it our fault that you can't keep her?""What did you just say?"Kelvin lost it, slapping Justin hard across the face. "You didn't say that when you were taking my money!"And you, Amber. Who bailed you out of that financial hole last month? If Laura found out you made a mistake

  • Everyone but Me Knew She'd Marry Him   Chapter 6

Laura closed her eyes, but all she could see was my face. She called everyone she knew who was close to me and eventually called my workplace.Freddy Steele, my coworker, said, "Nathan took the earliest flight out to Merovia this afternoon. The R&D department transferred him there to be the new technical director."Laura froze, speechless for a long time. Freddy then added, almost as an afterthought, "He was originally planning to go to Adaville. He wanted to be reunited with his girlfriend so badly that he worked himself to the bone."Everyone says he's a little slow and is bad at getting things done, but anyone who actually knows him knows he's just exhausted."With the amount of stress he was under, it was only natural that he would be a little slow sometimes. "But then he changed his plans out of nowhere. The rumor going around is that his girlfriend cheated on him."Honestly, Nathan might never come back after this. This is why men shouldn't lose their heads over women.

"Nathan!"Laura rushed over to hold me tightly, her voice shaking. "Have you lost your mind? What do you think you're doing?"Amber freaked out as well and quickly called an ambulance. When I opened my eyes again, I was in a hospital bed with thick bandages wrapped around my chest. What a shame—I survived. Laura was sitting beside my bed, holding my hand. She had dark circles under her eyes.I pulled my hand away and rolled over, turning my back to her.She sounded exhausted as she explained, "I know everything now. Kelvin was wrong for that. He's childish and likes to mess around, and the post simply pushed him over the edge."I've already chewed him out. And I'm sorry about your grandma… I just didn't expect her condition to suddenly get that bad. If I had known—""Laura," I cut her off. My voice was quiet, but crystal clear. "You should go. From now on, you and I have nothing to do with each other. We're done."She froze in shock.Laura had probably braced herself for me
