Chapter 8

Author: Eternity
Three days later, I entered the closed research facility under Professor Shaw’s name.

The building stood on the coast, behind glass gates and a security system that did not care who Dante Russo was. My phone was replaced with an institute device, my schedule was set by medical recovery and research hours, and every outside message passed through the legal team.

For the first time in years, my name appeared on a lab door instead of a hospital chart.

Aria Vale. Doctoral Candidate.

I stared at it f

  • Everything After Survival   Chapter 10

Dante stood in the hallway with the Commission doors closing behind him.For a moment, he looked like the boy who had once slept beside my hospital bed with his coat folded under his head. Then the image faded, and I saw only the man who had left me in a house where my child could be erased.“I know I don’t deserve forgiveness,” he said. “But I need you to know that if I had known what they were doing, I would have stopped everything.”“You didn’t know because you chose not to stay.”His face tightened.“I thought I could fix it afterward. I thought if I got through the wedding, I could come back to you and make everything right.”“You thought I would still be waiting.”He had no answer. The institute legal director stepped forward and handed him a folder.“These terminate every private arrangement still connecting you to Miss Vale: medical authorization from her treatment years, residence registration at the Russo estate, emergency contact status, beneficiary records, and all compensa

The Commission hearing was held in a private hall downtown.I arrived with Professor Shaw, the institute legal director, and two security officers. I wore a dark green dress beneath my coat, not for beauty, but because I wanted to remember that I had entered Dante’s house bleeding and left this time standing. Before we reached the hearing room, Serena appeared near the elevator. She looked thinner than before. There were no De Luca guards behind her, no silk dress, no soft smile polished for cameras. The institute security officers stopped her before she could come close.“Aria, please,” she said. “I know I was wrong. Punish me however you want, but don’t destroy Dante. Russo Holdings is everything to him.”I looked at her for a moment. The hatred I once had for her had cooled into something almost useless.“You are still asking me to pay for what you chose.”Her lips trembled.“I’m begging you.”“No,” I said. “You’re negotiating with something you no longer have.”The doors opened beh

Doctoral Candidate.I stared at it for a long time.Professor Shaw stood beside me.“This project will not be gentle with you,” she said. “But it will be honest. If you work, you stay. If you need rest, you rest. No one here will ask you to disappear for another person’s reputation.”That was enough.Dante tried to reach me almost every day at first. He sent emails, letters, recorded messages, and requests through lawyers. Later, he tried to donate money to the institute in my name. The legal team rejected everything. One file rea

The Russo villa looked as if nothing had happened.Gold ribbons wound around the staircase. Champagne crates stood beside the dining room, and servants carried trays through the hall for Serena’s pregnancy reception. The old medical room had been closed, its door locked, as if shutting it could erase the blood.Dante’s mother stood near the staircase with Lucia De Luca. When she saw me, her face tightened, but she pointed toward two suitcases by the service entrance.“Your things are there.”The institute’s legal director stepped forward.“Miss Vale is under institutional protection. Anything said to her today will be added to the complaint.”Lucia’s eyes chilled.“This is a Russo house. Today concerns my daughter’s future. Aria’s condition has nothing to do with Serena.”Dante’s mother said coldly, “If she had known her place, none of this would have happened. Dante paid for her illness and gave her shelter for years. Instead of being grateful, she tried to ruin an alliance between tw

When I woke up, I was lying in a sealed hospital room at the institute medical center. For a moment, I thought I was still in Dante’s old medical room, and fear dragged me awake before I could think.“Don’t touch me…”“Aria, it’s me.”Professor Shaw’s voice pulled me back. She sat beside the bed, still wearing the same dark coat from that night. Behind her stood the project doctor and a woman from the institute’s legal team.“You’re safe now,” Professor Shaw said.My hand moved to my stomach. It was flat. For several seconds, I could not breathe.“Where is my baby?”The answer was already in Professor Shaw’s eyes. The project doctor spoke gently. “By the time we reached you, the procedure had already begun. You had lost too much blood. We transferred you here immediately, but the fetus was too weak to survive.”I stared at the ceiling. The child I had wanted to tell Dante about on our first-kiss anniversary was gone. The child I had hidden my hope inside was gone. Dante had not held th

I was half-collapsed in the doorway of the old medical room, my wrists held by De Luca guards, my mouth taped shut. A dark stain had spread down my dress, and a warm stream of blood was running between my legs. The smile disappeared from Dante’s face. For a few seconds, no one moved. Then he rushed forward and tore the tape from my mouth.“Aria?” His voice cracked. “What happened?”I tried to answer, but pain bent me double. The private doctor stood behind me with his case open. Lucia De Luca held the consent form, and Don De Luca’s expression remained cold, as if this were only an inconvenience before a wedding.Dante looked from the blood to the doctor, then to Lucia.“What did you do?”Lucia recovered first.“We did what you were too weak to do. This woman and her child would have destroyed Serena’s wedding.”Dante’s face went white.“That child is mine.”The room went silent.Serena’s hand flew to her stomach. “Dante, don’t say that. Not now.”He did not look at her. He lifted me i
