Chapter 6 Showing Her True Colors

Auteur: Perfect Timing
"Wendy, did you tell them I was the maid's daughter?"

The girls immediately stopped whispering and looked between Wendy and me in confusion.

Wendy's face stiffened. She bit her lip and said awkwardly, "This is my sister. She was only recently reunited with our family."

"How come you've never mentioned having a sister before?"

"Yeah, and she doesn't look anything like you."

Wendy opened her mouth, clearly searching for an excuse, but nothing came out.

"Because Wendy is the Sutton family's adopted daughter," I said calmly. "We were switched at birth, so of course we don't look alike."

If Wendy would not tell the truth, then I would do it for her.

She wanted to keep clinging to her identity as the Sutton family's beloved heiress. There was no way I was going to let that happen.

A flash of resentment crossed Wendy's eyes. The color drained from her face, but in order to maintain her graceful image, she could only nod.

The girls were not fools. They were exactly the type who adjusted their attitudes based on someone's status.

Seeing the usually arrogant Wendy acting meek and frightened in front of me, they immediately realized her position in the Sutton family wasn't nearly as secure as she claimed.

At once, mocking smiles appeared on their faces.

"So, you're adopted, Wendy? Then, where are your real parents? What do they do?"

Wendy's biological parents had long since been sent to prison for abusing their daughter and deliberately switching the babies. They had received three-year sentences.

Naturally, there was no way Wendy would reveal that information. She could only shake her head and mumble that she did not know.

I watched her stammering and shifted slightly as if I were about to speak.

The moment Wendy noticed, panic flashed across her face. She hurriedly grabbed my arm and dragged me to the rooftop of the school building.

The rooftop door slammed shut behind us.

"Can you please just leave me alone?" Wendy's voice trembled. "What did I ever do to deserve this humiliation?"

I idly twirled a strand of hair around my finger.

"What did you do wrong? You spent more than a decade living my life. You enjoyed everything that should have been mine and still refuse to give it up. You constantly slander me and put me down in front of Mom and Dad."

Wendy's expression stiffened.

"But none of that was my fault," she argued desperately. "If you're angry, you should blame the people who raised you. Why are you taking it out on me? I didn't know anything. Aren't I innocent, too?"

Tears streamed down her face as her voice shook. She lowered herself, acting pitiful and vulnerable, trying to convince me she was an innocent victim.

Maybe the me from my previous life would have fallen for it, but not anymore.

"What?" I said with a laugh. "Are you afraid I'll tell everyone your biological parents are in prison? Wendy, they're your real parents. Isn't it a little heartless to pretend they have nothing to do with you?"

I stepped onto the rooftop ledge and looked down at her from above.

"If you want me to keep quiet, that's easy." I smiled. "Kneel and beg me."

Humiliation flooded Wendy's face. She had been pampered her entire life. No one had ever dared speak to her this way, much less humiliate her openly.

Her body trembled. Slowly, reluctantly, she began lowering herself to her knees, wearing the expression of someone heading to an execution.

Then, I laughed. "Or there's another option."

I spread my arms slightly. "I'm standing right here. You could push me off the roof. If I die, I won't be able to tell anyone anything."

Wendy froze. As she kneeled there, her face twisted with shame and resentment. Her head was lowered, but I clearly saw the hatred and struggle flashing through her eyes.

The next second, she stood up. Step by step, she walked toward me. Then, she reached out her hands. "Anya," she hissed, her face contorted with malice, "you brought this on yourself."

Looking at Wendy's twisted expression, I smiled.

So, she was not invincible after all. In this life, it had taken almost no effort to make her reveal her true nature.

Wendy had only been back for a short time, but they already had a child on the way. Wow.Just as I expected, Frederick's expression changed the moment he heard her words.Conflict flashed across his face. He looked at me for a long moment, clearly torn. In the end, his joy of becoming a father won out."I'm sorry, Anya. I can't be the kind of man who abandons his responsibilities. I hope I can meet you first in our next life."I nearly burst out laughing. Still, my voice was shaky from barely hidden amusement as I snarked, "Frederick, could you stop flattering yourself? Who exactly gave you the impression that I'd ever be interested in you?"Then, I stopped paying attention to the two of them and promptly sauntered away.Wendy's reputation was destroyed beyond repair. Now that she was pregnant as well, I doubted she would have much time or energy to interfere in my life anymore. The desire for revenge that had once consumed me gradually faded.I later heard from the rumor mill

I pulled out the copyright certificate I had prepared long ago and tossed it onto the table in front of Wendy. The registration date clearly showed that the song had been copyrighted five years earlier, a full two years before Wendy had first released it online. She hadn't even bothered changing the title.Wendy's eyes widened with fury the second she saw the certificate."Anya, you set me up! This was all part of your plan. You left those manuscripts in the piano room on purpose. You've been biding your time all these years. You've spent years plotting against me. Aren't you exhausted? Anya, you're terrifying.""Oh, darling, please!" I snickered. "How could you call this a setup when I don't remember forcing you to steal my music? Did I make you take those manuscripts? Did I make you publish those songs under your own name?"Then, I looked at her dead in the eye. "Wendy, perhaps you should spend less time blaming everyone else and more time examining your own flaws. Not everyone

"That wasn't what happened! Please, you have to believe me. Anya really did hit me. I wasn't putting on an act!" Wendy cried out in dismay. She panicked and grabbed Penelope and Frederick by the arms, desperately trying to defend herself. Alas, both of them pulled away from her. As she stood in the middle of the crowd, she quickly found that not a single person was looking at her with sympathy.Since I was armed with video evidence, her excuses carried no weight."It was you. This was a setup! Why else were you carrying a camera around? You wanted to humiliate me on purpose, didn't you?" Wendy's voice grew increasingly hysterical, making my ears ache. Before I could respond, someone nearby spoke up for me."Everyone at school knows that Anya is working on promotional videos for the school. She's always filming outstanding students and their daily activities. Of course, she'd be carrying a camera. Honestly, I would've fallen for your performance if she hadn't recorded it all.""God

Wendy was completely unable to fight back. The commotion inside the stall quickly drew attention, and the people outside began pounding frantically on the door."Anya, have you lost your mind? Let Wendy go right now, or I swear I won't let this go!" Frederick's furious voice rang out from outside.By then, I had vented my anger enough. So, I released Wendy's hair, watching a few strands float down the floor. Her face was badly swollen, bright red handprints covering both cheeks. She stared at me as if she had just seen a ghost.Wendy rushed out of the restroom the second the door was rammed open. She was clutching her cheek with her hands as she threw herself into Frederick's arms and burst into loud sobs.Frederick looked heartbroken.Penelope stood next to him and gently patted Wendy's back.
