Chapter 5

Heartbroken, Barbara had left the City eversince Dexter asked his lawyer to force her to sign the divorce agreement three years ago.

Throughout the three year, she has never thought that she would bump into Dexter again, for she had planned to avoid him for the rest of her life. Yet on her first day back to San Fetilo, they crossed paths again in such a way.

She was in a complete state of mess while he was high above her and looking at her disdainfully as though he was a king while his arms wrapped around Emily's waist. Barbara wondered if he had come to chaste her for what she had done.

Suppressing the rolling emotions in her heart, Barbara looked away indifferently.

As she had made up her mind to treat him like a complete stranger if they were to cross paths again, there was nothing to be upset about, was there?

Dexter's pupils constricted when he saw Barbara looking away with cold indifference. After he helped Emily into the room, he ordered icily, "Apologize!" One couldn't help but tremble when the heard him.

However, Barbara merely purse her lips and remained silent. "He wants me to apologize to his mistress? Besides he's demanding for my apology when I've done nothing wrong. There's no way that I would do this"

Dexter's expression turned darker and darker when he noticed that she had no intention of speaking up. "Barbara Weston, didn't you hear me? Apologize!" He ordered.

"Apologize. Why should I? President Dexter, do you think that you're a king who could order me around?" Barbara smiled contemptuously.

"It doesn't matter whether I'm a king or not. What matters is the fact that you deliberately assaulted others. Freya had already been sent to the hospital. You should know the consequences!".

He was obviously threatening her, and Barbara knew that he wasn't doing it for Freya. Without the slightest intention to apologize, Barbara smiled , "Mr Dexter, you're so powerful that you could do anything that you want, so I will be waiting to see what you could do. As for the apology, you will get it in your next life!"

Dexter felt strangely stifled and uncomfortable when he saw how indifferent Barbara was when she retorted him in an icy tone of voice.

"Barbara, since you're so stubborn, then don't blame me for being merciless" Dexter replied and glanced at her coldly. He turned to instruct the security guards, "Have you called me the police?"

"Yes" The security guards answered respectfully.

"Then we will let the police settle thus impartially! We will see how tough you could be on e you're in the police station!"

Dexter wore a look of indifference as he gave this cruel instructions to the guards and Barbara lowered her gaze to conceal the look of sadness in her eyes.

"Is Dexter's heart made of stone? I've never let him down in anyway throughout our five years of relationship and three years of marriage. Why is he so cruel to me?" She thought.

"Three years ago, he had sent me packing with nothing to my name. Now thar we're meeting again for the first time in three years, he's going to send me to the police station without even bothering to get his facts right."

Men were the most cruel creature in the world and Dexter was one of the leaders of the pack.

"I must have been blind to have fallen in love with such a cold blooded and heartless man back then" She thought.

Barbara was adamant to apologize was eventually brought to the police station.

Just when the police asked her some basic questions, Barbara's phone rang. It was a call from Jeremy. After Barbara answered the call, Jeremy yelled in exasperation. "Barbara where the hell are you? Didn't I tell you to wait in the longue?"

"I'm sorry, Mr Black!" Barbara apologized repeatedly. "Something unexpected happened and I'm currently at the police station."

"What? The police station? Why are you in the police station.

"Well.well...." Barbara was at a loss as to what to say. She knew that she couldn't possibly tell Jeremy that she had bumped into the mistress who ruined her marriage and was sent to the police station by her ex-husband because she lost her temper and got inti a conflict with the mistress.

Jeremy became impatient when he noticed how hesitant she was and yelled, "You could stay in the police station if that's what you like. I don't need an assistant like you anymore. I will call Nathan wight away!"

She then heard the sound of a beeping tone on the other end of the line. Jeremy had hung up the phone. Barbara's heart sank when she realized that she had gotten herself into legal trouble and would soon lose her job as well.

The police felt sorry for when they saw how pale she seemed and kindly reminded her, "Miss, of all the people in the world, why dud you offend this couple? Mind you that the lady is Mr Weston's precious daughter while the man, Dexter Lorenzo, is a very powerful business tycoon. You will be able to resolve the matter with an apology. I have Mr Lorenzo's number if you need. Why don't you call him and put in a good word for yourself?"
