The large living room of Stella's apartment was decorated extravagantly, unlike the poor Emily's room. The big apartment was rented by Albert and also furnished with expensive properties.
Jennifer was not aware of all of this. She believed that Albert loved her more than any other woman—that Stella was only forcing herself on her faithful, lovely husband because he was now rich. She didn't know that her husband had gone to the extent of renting an apartment for her. The living room was decorated with golden balloons, expensive flowers, and other luxury objects. At the center of the room was a beautifully made cake and an array of flashy gifts. Albert had closed work on time to take Stella and her son out. He took them to places he should have taken Emily and Jennifer to. He took them to the shopping mall and to the zoo and lastly visited the beach before driving to Stella's apartment, where all the decoration had been made already. Ethan, the ten-year-old young boy whom Stella claimed as Albert's son, beamed with joy when he saw the cake and decorations. The cake and decorations were not there when they left. It was a big surprise to him, a surprise that Emily deserved. He was beaming, enjoying the moment, unaware of the tangled web his mother had woven to make this day happen. Who will tell him that the day wasn't actually his birthdate? His mom had chosen this day. Not because it was Ethan’s real birthday, but because it was Emily's birthday. Because today, she needed to see who mattered more between her and Jennifer. And now, as Albert stood there in full celebration, the answer was clear. "Who has these cars?" Ethan asked, pointing to the big children's cars that Albert bought for his birthday. "It's yours. Your daddy bought it for you." Stella replied with a smile. "Yeah, it's for you, Ethan. It's your birthday gift." Albert said, and Ethan rushed and hugged him. "Thank you, Daddy. I always wished to have one of them, and you bought two. That's so thoughtful of you." Three days ago, Stella asked Albert to buy the cars for him, and he ordered a customized miniature Benz and Lamborghini. While celebrating, Stella took pictures and videos of them, planning to send them to Jennifer. After taking the pictures and videos, Stella lit up the candles and raised up the birthday song. Desmond joined, and they sang together. That was exactly when Jennifer called. Stella saw the call and smiled. Her next move was never part of her plan, but the call came at the perfect time to be utilized. Without notifying Albert, she picked it up and left it so Jennifer could hear everything. It lasted up to fifteen seconds before Jennifer hung up. Albert was never aware. After singing, Stella told Ethan to make a wish. Ethan smiled and looked at his mom before making his wish. "I wish that Daddy would take us to his home." He said, and Stella looked up at Albert with a smile. She had been urging Albert to take them together to his house, but he had been delaying. She had told Ethan to make the wish. Now, she hoped Albert would grant his son's wish without delaying. After making his wish, he blew out the candle, and they clapped for him. Ethan excitedly hugged Albert. “Thank you, Dad!” then went back to his new cars in full excitement. Stella went back to her phone and sent the video she took to Jennifer. She wanted Jennifer to see how Albert celebrated her son. Ethan's tiny hands gripped the steering wheel of the luxury mini car. "I can’t wait to drive them in your house, Daddy! I'm sure there will be so much more space for fun than here!” Albert chuckled and ruffled the boy’s hair. “Soon, kid. I’ll take you and Mummy there very soon.” Stella’s lips curled into a victorious smile. She was about to achieve her aim, and it wasn't that hard. It was so easy. . . . Albert came back home and found the sitting room empty. The small cake was sitting at the center of the room with small decorations. He walked closer and noticed it was barely touched. Emily managed to eat a little bit before going back to her room. Jennifer didn't touch the cake. The heartbreak couldn't even let her take her dinner. She had retired back to the bedroom, waiting for Albert to come back. Just as Albert walked into the room, she rose up from the bed to confront him. This time, there is no way he would be able to deny anything. All evidence was in her phone. "Where are you coming from at this time?" Jennifer questioned with a trace of anger in her voice. "What kind of nonsense question are you asking me?" Albert replied and went on to unbutton his shirt. "So asking you where you are coming from is a nonsense question?" "Yeah, it's a nonsense question because you know where I'm coming from. I went to work; now I'm back and stressed. And all you could do as my wife was ask me where I'm coming from. Does that make sense to you? As my wife, I expect you to welcome me with a hug and serve my dinner." Albert said, and this time, Jennifer could not control her frustration any longer. He got up from the bed and made his way to the living room. He headed to the mini-bar, grabbed a bottle of wine, and poured himself a generous amount. He took a deep sip and leaned against the counter, letting the drink burn its way down his throat. He went and sat on the couch, then poured another drink for himself. He wanted to get tipsy and forget about his wife and daughter so he could sleep. But the more he drank, the more the thought filled his head. Soon, he emptied the bottle of wine. At this point, he couldn't even stand up. He lay there, drunk and exhausted. He didn't know when he drifted off to sleep. For the first time in ten years, he slept on the couch. . . . The next morning, in the hospital, Immediately it clocked seven, the doctor arrived for the routine checkup. He examined Emily and turned to Jennifer with a reassuring expression. "She’s recovering well. She's now fit to go home. She just needs to continue her medication." "Alright, thank you, doctor." Th
Jennifer sat behind Emily’s hospital bed, totally exhausted. She was hungry, but the appetite was not there. Seeing her daughter breathing steadily was the only thing keeping her together. She was about to drift off to sleep when she heard Emily call her. "Mom." Jennifer’s head shot up instantly. Her eyes widened in relief as she saw Emily’s bright, clear eyes staring back at her. "You are awake!" Jennifer said and gently placed her hand on her daughter's forehead. "How are you feeling now?" Emily shifted slightly under the hospital blanket and gave a small nod. "I feel stronger now." Jennifer smiled in relief. After the terror of nearly losing her, hearing Emily say those words was enough to bring tears to her eyes. "That’s wonderful," she whispered, and kissed her daughter's forehead. "Thank you for taking care of me, Mom." She said, and Jennifer frowned slightly. "Sweetheart, you don’t have to thank me," she said and brushed her hair back gently. "I’m your mother. My prior
Caleb got to Albert's company and headed directly to his office. When he got to his door, he knocked. "Come in." He heard Albert's voice from the inside, and pushed the door, then stepped inside. Albert looked up from his desk, a smile forming as he prepared to greet him. But when he saw Caleb's facial expression, his smile faltered. It was as if Caleb was coming to confront him. He began to wonder what he had done wrong. "So you are truly in your office." He said in disbelief. Albert furrowed his brows slightly in confusion. "Is there any problem? Have you been looking for me?" He gestured to the chair in front of him. "Please, sit down." But Caleb refused to sit down. "I’m not here to sit down, Albert." He said with a tense voice. "I’ve been calling you, but you weren’t picking up." "You were calling me?" Albert asked, and just then, he remembered his phone was on silent. "Oh! My phone is on silent. I wasn’t aware. I'm sorry about it." "Anyway, I'm just coming from the h
Just in the first ring, Caleb picked up. "Hello, Jennifer. How are you doing?" He asked. "I'm not fine, Caleb. I'm in the hospital." She replied amidst sobs. "What happened? Is it about Emily?" Caleb asked. He knew about Emily and what Jennifer and Albert had been passing through for years. "Yes, her sickness started again. She fainted after eating, and I brought her to the hospital. The doctor said she needs two pints of blood. She’s dying. I need your help." Jennifer pleaded, and there was silence on the other end. "Is Albert not with you?" Caleb asked after some moments. "He’s not here. I've tried to call him, and he wasn't picking up my calls. I don’t have enough money on my bank card. Please, Caleb—please help me. I don't want to lose Emily. She's all I have." "Which hospital is that?" Caleb asked. "City Life Hospital, Ward 4, Room 041." Jennifer replied. "I’m coming. You will see me now." Caleb assured her, and the call ended, but Jennifer’s anxiety didn’t. She stood
She checked her pulse and was slightly revived. She was still alive, but she was unresponsive. Jennifer quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Albert’s number. Her hands were shaking so badly that she almost pressed the wrong button. As the phone began to ring, she prayed he would pick it up. Unfortunately, he didn’t answer. She tried again. "Albert, please! Pick up the phone!" She cried out, but there was no response. By the time Jennifer was calling, Albert was on his way to his company. He had seen her calls but had ignored them intentionally. When she called again, it felt as if she was disturbing and distracting him from diving. He reached for the device, switched it to silent, and continued driving. Back at home, Jennifer kept calling. She called him multiple times before she finally gave up. She couldn’t waste any more time. She put her phone and bank card into her purse and carried Emily up. She needed to take her daughter to the hospital by any means. She step
"So you are saying all this because of your ex-girlfriend's son? Because of a child you have outside wedlock?""It's not entirely because of that. I've tried the best I could. I won't continue to waste my hard-earned money on her. If you can excuse me, I have a lot to do in my office." She moved to leave, and Jennifer blocked his way."Get out of my way, Jennifer. I don't want to hurt you." He warned."So you are not going to take her to the hospital?""She can wait until I'm done with important things. Now leave my way." He said, but Jennifer insisted. He pushed her aside and strolled out of the room."Albert, did you just push me?" Jennifer yelled, but he ignored her. She watched him walk away without looking back. This time, she became more scared. Albert has never pushed her like that. He was turning ruthless to her and her daughter. "Albert," she called after him again, but he didn’t answer. Albert strode into the sitting room, adjusting his sleeves as he made his way to leave.
