“Good morning, ma’am. Nico has a fever. I’ve called Doctor Bailey to check up on him. He will be here in an hour.” Naya informed me on the phone, and I felt a pang of guilt.

I had been in Sakai’s house for two weeks, avoiding being in the same room with Santino after he had been trying to get us back together.

I didn’t want to bring Nico with me because I thought I would eventually go home soon when Santino left to resume work in New York, but that wasn’t the case.

He didn’t want to go anywhere without me, so he stayed in the house with Nico, waiting for me to come home. But because I was stubborn, I didn’t go home.

“My God.” I sat up in bed. “When did this start? Does he have the flu?”

“I’m not sure, ma’am. He was okay all day yesterday and this morning. The fever started out of nowhere.”

“It’s okay. Thank you for informing me, Naya. I’ll be home soon. Please tell him I’m on my way.”
