Torn between the memories of a love that once was and the promise of a future filled with joy and stability, Camilla must decide—who is truly deserving of her heart? Lucius broke her heart and divorced her, not knowing who she truly was. Five years later, Lucius begs her for forgiveness when he loses everything. *** "Silly Camilla, I loved you before knowing who you are, and I'll love you until my last breath. You're the only thing I can never sacrifice. If I have to burn the world down just for you, I'd do it in the blink of an eye. I'd take every blow just to keep you safe."

“Alisha.” I was about to get inside my car and drive home when someone called my name. I turned around and looked at the person. “Hi,” I replied, with furrowed brows, because she was wearing big shades that made it difficult for me to see her face. “I wanted to confirm that it was really you,” she smirked as she leaned closer. “You don’t know me, but I’m sure you have an idea now about why I’m here. I don’t even have to say his name.” Then it clicked. Well, I’d be damned. The last time she and I talked was when she called my husband while he was in the shower, and I answered the call. I could recognize her voice since it was a few days ago when she called. “I don’t know you, but if you don’t mind refreshing my memory, you can remind me.” I smiled at her. She narrowed her eyes at me, irritated. “We talked. Three nights ago. Do you remember?” “No, I’m afraid I don’t.” I folded my arms on my chest and looked at her. “My name is Sasha.” “Oh, you’re my husband’s mistress?” I chuckled. “What a lovely surprise. You must be a brave mistress to approach me so boldly. I thought wives had that tendency of sneaking up on their husbands’ mistresses.” “That’s not the point,” she scoffed. “Then why are you here? If you bothered me, I think I would’ve taken the first step to approach you woman-to-woman, but as you can see, I’m not bothered by your existence.” “Thought this might be a good time for me to introduce myself, since Lucius has made me the mother of his child,” she answered as she caressed her stomach, and my heart sank. It couldn’t be true. She had to be lying. If Lucius had made her pregnant, then our childlessness all these years had to be my fault. It didn’t come as a surprise that he was cheating with her because I knew for months, and as long as he came back home to me, it gave me hope he would change and realize that I was enough for him. But her pregnancy meant she successfully proved to him he wasn’t the one with the problem, and that was enough for him to leave our marriage. “You know that I’m his wife, don’t you?” “Yet, that didn’t stop him from planting his seed inside me. I’ve given him something that you’ve been failing to give him for three years. So now, tell me, what good does your title do?” I gulped and didn’t know how to answer her. It took everything in me not to shed the tears that were creeping to the corners of my eyes. I clenched my fists in frustration, and my heart raced. How dare she? As Lucius’ wife, I deserved that respect. Or was I no longer entitled to receive any kind of reverence from her because she was carrying his first child and heir? Sasha chuckled when she saw my distress. She closed the small gap between us, and when I smelled the cologne that had always been left on the collars of my husband’s shirts, my blood boiled. “Lucius will make me his wife, and me and this baby,” she scoffed as she looked down at her stomach before she returned her gaze to me. “My baby and I are going to be his family. If I were you, I would ensure that I leave the marriage before things get too bad.” “What makes you think he will leave me to be with you?” I asked, scolding. “What makes you think he wouldn’t, my love?” She chuckled. "You’re a barren woman. He can’t build a family with someone who can’t give him any children.” “Listen, sweetie," I narrowed my eyes at her. "As long as Lucius and I remain true to our vows, I will remain his wife. So, if I were you, I would be in my little corner and remain hidden.” I turned to get inside my car when I stopped and turned to her. “The fact that Lucius had never once said anything about you means you were nothing but his cum rag. So, you’re a fool to think that a baby will make him leave his wife to be with someone that he has never made a mistake for his wife to find out about.” “I know it won’t be easy to accept that the man is now mine, but in due time, you shall see.” I rolled my eyes, got inside my car, and drove home. *** Walking back from the laundry room, feeling a bit lightheaded, I found the door in our bedroom slightly open. “Where were you?” He asked as soon as the door closed behind me. “I was in the laundry room doing our laundry,” I replied as I slowly walked closer to him. “I’m sorry.” “Didn’t I tell you to prepare something for me to wear before I returned from work?” He seethed as he turned around and looked at me. “Why do I always have to fight with you when I’ve clearly given you instructions before I left the house?!” “I’m sorry, Lucius, but your mother told me to cook and clean the house all day. With all the house chores I had, it slipped my mind. I’m sorry that your suit wasn’t ready when you came -“ I felt a hot slap on my face before I could finish my sentence. There was a ringing sound in my ear before it registered in my mind that Lucius had laid his hand on me for the first time since we had gotten married. “The next time I tell you to do something and you don’t do it, I am going to do something that you and I will regret,” he snarled as he pointed his finger at me. “I am your wife...” was all I could whisper in my raspy voice, trying so hard to hold back the tears at the corners of my eyes. “Then act like one,” he frowned before he walked out of the room and left me standing there with my hand on my cheek. I closed my eyes and couldn’t believe that the same man who loved me so much and could’ve given me the world if needed was the same man today who made my life a living hell. It suddenly became clear that I didn’t know the man I had married and called my husband for the past three years. Taking a deep breath, I fixed my dress and hair and wiped my face before I walked out of the room and went to the dining room to prepare it. But when I walked in, everyone was in their seats, including Lucius, next to a woman who looked familiar. I looked at her but couldn’t trace where I knew her from. “Oh, you’re here, Alisha!” Olivia exclaimed. “You might as well be useful and bring us sharper table knives. Seems like your steak needs a lot of cutting. Should’ve kept it on the stove a little longer for it to be tender and edible.” Everyone at the table chuckled, and I felt my heart being ripped apart. What hurt more was Lucius joining in and laughing. I swallowed the little pride that I had and went to get the table knives, and when I laid a table knife in front of Lucius, I noticed his hand brushing over the woman’s thigh next to him. “Did you get a new maid?” One of the three ladies who visited asked. “She’s an amazing cook. This food is so delicious.” “She’s Lucius’ wife,” Brandon answered, earning a frown from Olivia and Nevada. “This is your wife? I thought she was the maid.” The woman next to Lucius asked as she glanced at me and chuckled. That’s when I realized who she was. “She’s nothing but useless junk, sweetie. You don’t have to worry about her,” Olivia answered. “Lucius is only keeping her around because she has no home. You are the one who will make this family happy by being my son’s wife.” “What?” I dropped the table knives I was carrying. “Tell this thing that you’re engaged to be married to Sasha, Lucius. She needs to get herself ready to leave your bedroom for your fiancé. You can’t keep inhabiting a useless thing that can’t bear you heirs,” Olivia answered. Lucius stood up from his chair and looked down at me. “You have heard my mother, Alisha. I want a divorce.”•FRANCESCA•“I hope no one saw you when you took her, Enzo.”“It was a terrible accident, so no one saw me.” He placed her on the bed and covered her with a fleece blanket.“Good. You know I hate loose ends. The only person I want is her. She’s the one who brought us here.” I sighed as I sat on the single bed facing hers.“Her ex-husbands could be looking for her. She was with her new assistant and bodyguard when we took her, so they would know you’re the one who took her.”“Ugh, little brother,” I rolled my eyes and groaned as I stood up from the bed. “If you want people to pay for backstabbing you, you must stop doubting yourself.”“Santino’s dangerous, and you told me that yourself. He won’t rest until he finds her, and he will make us pay for bringing his pregnant woman here.” He looked at her as if feeling sorry for her.“Stop feeling sorry for her. She failed us when she couldn’t avenge us against the woman who ruined our family. No one will find her alive.” I leaned over and lo
•LUCIUS•“We didn’t know she saved you, brother. Please don’t be angry with our mother. She apologized to her,” Brandon commented when we got home and headed to the living room.I didn’t know why my mother thought she could manipulate me by getting him to apologize on her behalf. She made things worse with Camilla again. She didn’t know how to hold herself and avoid saying everything that came into her mind. She knew how much Camilla meant to me and how hard I was working to get her back with me.“Tell your mother she messed up, and I don’t want to say anything to her, Brandon. Since you’re her spokesperson, I want you both to leave me alone so I can rest.” I sat on the couch and wrote Camilla a text.“I didn’t know what to think when I saw her with you, Lucius. You know she didn’t want us to see Nico, so what did you want me to think when I saw her at the station? She might have framed you so that you wouldn’t be in her life,” my mother explained as she sat beside me.“You were suppo
•SANTINO•“When is Mommy coming home, Daddy? Is she going to be away for a few days again?” Nico asked when I tucked him into bed.I leaned over and kissed his forehead, trying to avoid talking about his mother. It was clear Camilla didn’t want to see herself anywhere else but with Lucius. She didn’t hesitate to fly to New York to save him from serving a sentence in jail for something she believed he didn’t commit.“She’ll be home soon, bud. Get some rest, and when you wake up in the morning, we will have pancakes and visit the zoo. It’s been a long time since we had a boys’ day out.”“Alright,” he smiled as he closed his eyes and pretended to sleep. I shook my head and chuckled as I left his room and closed the door. When I got into my bedroom, I sat on the couch and looked at the texts from Cole, asking me when we would visit the mayor.I didn’t know how to tell him I didn’t want to go ahead with our plans anymore. I didn’t want to lose my family.Camilla was very close to the truth
•CAMILLA•“You’re Camilla Ross?” The detective asked when he took me to his office. He seemed very stunned to see me.He probably expected someone else. Casey. I didn’t think he saw the articles when I revealed my identity and publicized Cecilia’s betrayal.“Yes, I’m Camilla Ross, and I want to see Lucius Hall. I know the person who murdered Sasha Ross,” I answered as I sat on the chair in front of his desk.“Wow,” the detective said with wonder as he glanced at Naya, my bodyguard, and me. “Wow.” He cleared his throat and sat in his chair. “I am Michael Smith.” He held out his hand for a handshake.“Nice to meet you, Michael.” I shook his hand and leaned back in the chair. “Do I need a lawyer before we discuss Lucius’s case? He didn’t kill Sasha, and I have proof of that.”“Lucius Hall was your husband five years ago. Am I correct?” He asked, and I scoffed and furrowed my brow.“Yes, but I don’t see the relevance of that in this. I am here to prove that Lucius Hall didn’t murder Sasha
•CECILIA•“Casey drugged me! She made me like this! Please, she drugged me!”“You need to calm down, Mrs. Ross, if you don’t want us to put you to sleep.” The nurse who helped me clean up answered as she pushed my wheelchair to the reception area.“We’ve informed the board of her transfer, and will sign further paperwork when her stepchildren get here,” the receptionist informed the nurse.“We were expecting Camilla Ross, and she’s still not here.”“Camilla’s assistant called and informed me that Sakai Ross will come to see the baby. I think he would like to see his stepmother before she’s transferred to the mental institution.”“I’m not crazy!” I snapped when I heard that word. “Let me go! I’m not crazy!”“Please take her to the boardroom. Sakai Ross will be here soon, and we don’t want to cause chaos for our visitors,” the receptionist instructed the nurse.“Is Sakai taking my daughter?” I asked the nurse when we arrived in the boardroom. She just looked at me and sighed.“Maybe. If
•CAMILLA•“What’s going on? Where are you going, Camilla?” Santino asked when he found me packing my clothes in a traveling bag.“I’m going to New York.”“What?”“I’ll be back before you know it, Santino. I can’t stay here and do nothing while Francesca does as she pleases all in the name of vengeance.”“No. I can’t let you go to New York alone. If Francesca wants to turn the world upside down, she can do so without you getting caught in the middle. You’re pregnant, and I don’t want—”“My flight is leaving in an hour,” I interrupted him as I put on my coat and went to the bedroom with my traveling bag. “I’ve arranged two nannies for Nico since I gave Haley a few days off.”“You didn’t hear what I just said?”I rolled my eyes and sighed as I turned around and looked at him. I couldn’t care less about what he had to say.He hated Lucius and didn’t care if the police arrested him for something he didn’t do.He was nonchalant, but maybe it had something to do with the fact that he had cha
