Kristen's eyes narrowed, her pulse increasing. “You’re scaring me Crystal, can you just tell me already.” She said, her worry was impossible to hide.

Crystal stiffened before she finally turned to face Kristen, her eyes were already getting watery, her lashes trembling with tears that she could no longer blink away. “It’s Briella… I.. I did something terrible. I..” She stammered.

Kristen’s stomach dropped. “What do you mean you did something terrible?”

Crystal swallowed hard. The confession clawed its way up to her throat. “I have… been in contact with Rissa.” She choked.

Kristen froze. She almost laughed, hoping her ears were playing tricks on her. “Wait… hold on.” She paused. “Please tell me it’s not the same Rissa. Not Briella’s evil sister.”

Briella faintly heard Hayden’s voice and suddenly no sound was heard again. Then there was a knock on the door. Hayden’s hand went instinctively to his gun. He shifted Briella gently onto the couch and got up to the door.“Miss Briella!” a voice called urgently from outside.Hayden’s jaw tightened. He opened the door slowly with his gun raised, until the uniformed police stepped into view. The moment they saw him and saw the blood on his hands, shock flashed across their faces.Hayden let them in, pointing to Briella.“She was attacked, where the hell were you guys? What the hell is your duty here?” Hayden barked. The guards froze, their eyes falling on Briella’s body. One of them rushed to her, dropping to his knees, already fumbling with the first aid kit strapped to his vest. The other spoke into his radio, calling for the medic on the island.“She’s bleeding out of the head!” Hayden’s voice broke on the words. His chest heaved, his trembling fingers pressed harder to the wound. “

Hayden walked back to his rented house, just a stone’s throw from Briella’s. The air was cold, salted with the sea breeze, but it couldn’t ease the feeling pressing down on his chest. At least his trip here wasn't wasted. She had forgiven him, that was something. But forgiveness wasn’t the same as acceptance, but he couldn’t force her to be with him. Tomorrow he will leave and let her be.From across the narrow path, a figure lingered behind a tree, a phone pressed to his ear.“She’s not alone,” the voice whispered. There was a pause on the other end, then a faint curse. “Wait until midnight.”*****New YorkLex’s fingers drummed impatiently against the steering wheel, his nerves all over the place. He had tried every line, Michael, David, even Jaylen but none of them were able to reach Briella. And today of all days their private jet coms were bad.Well, it was like Briella’s prayers had been answered, she wanted to stay hidden and not to be disturbed but her silence now made his ski

Fionos Island The sea stretched endlessly before the shore, the sky in it's rich blue color over the setting sun.The sound of the waves filled the air, the atmosphere carrying the faint perfume of salt and wild jasmine that drifted down from the cliffs.Briella stood barefoot on the veranda of the house, the hem of her dress brushing her ankles, her hands wrapped protectively over the gentle curve of her stomach. For the first time in months, the air felt lighter in her lungs. No Hayden or Jaylen, no corporate wars. Just the rhythm of the ocean. She closed her eyes, listening to the sound of nature, and she whispered to the tiny life within her, “It’s just us now. We’ll be okay.”The house was quiet but her phone vibrated silently from the table inside. Kristen’s name lit up the screen. Again. Then Crystal’s. Then Kristen’s once more desperate. But Briella was humming softly, lost in her own peace, completely unaware of the repeated calls and of the trap quietly tightening around h

Manny's RestaurantThe cool music playing in the background couldn’t calm Hilda down. Her fork clinked against the ceramic plate, with the untouched food growing cold in front of her. Sitting opposite her was Kennedy, his eyes moving around the place, observing the environment.“Babe, what’s slowing things down?” Hilda’s voice came up threaded with impatience. “He should’ve sent the money already, we are supposed to be out of the country by now.”Kennedy shrugged. “Hayden said there were some bank issues that hadn't been solved hence the delay.” He stated casually.“Delays?” Hilda’s eyes narrowed. “Are you sure they don’t suspect anything?”“I don’t know.” Kennedy’s tone lost its ease for the first time. “But think about it, if Hayden suspected something, do you really think he would’ve sent half the payment already?”That calmed Hilda down, just a little. She nodded murmuring, “True.”“I just hope he wires the rest soon,” she added, rubbing her temple.Kennedy reached across the tabl

One week later.Briella was finally back in New York. The storm had quieted on the surface, though she knew better than to trust the silence. Everyone now knew Rissa was behind it all. The police and other security agents were involved, her face plastered across reports.A reward had even been announced for any solid lead tying her to Lorcan Clyde’s murder and kidnap of Briella. But instead of the announcement flushing her out, the pressure only drove Rissa deeper into hiding. She was a snake in the shadows waiting, coiled and patient. The kind of patience that could destroy a person if you weren’t careful. And Briella felt it in her bones, Rissa wasn’t done yet. She wouldn’t stop, even if it meant dragging both of them to the ground.Jaylen had vanished since that day at the hospital. He didn't bother calling nor visiting her.
