LOGINThe man picks up Aurora who is still sobbing with her lower lip out as she sniffles. He pulls at her cheeks as he smiles adoringly at her.
“Hey little one. I’m so sorry you fell”. He pats her hair.
He looks into her green eyes that remind him of hers. She finally smiles at him and someone else’s image comes into his mind.
He shakes his head trying to get rid of it. He reciprocates her smile. He turns to his sister with a huge smile. However, his sister looks impatient. Knowing the kind of person she is, he removes his phone from his pocket and sends a text to his driver.
“I just sent a text to the driver. He will be here soon. You can just go to the lounge to wait for him”. He informs her. She nods and leaves in the direction of the lounge without saying a word.
Caleb heaves a sigh of relief the minute she leaves. He had come to pick her up from the airport to prevent her from complaining about being abandoned later on.
He had even hoped that she would have helped him with the little girl. There was no single maternal bone in her body too.
He returns his face to the little girl in his arms.
“Hey. What is your name?”. She looks at him in silence for a few seconds. He almost concludes that she is mute until she cracks a toothy smile and speaks.
“Aurora”. He almost coos at her voice.
“You are very cute, Aurora.” He squeezes her cheek in fondness. Aurora places her chubby little hands on his cheeks, too, mirroring his action.
He chuckles at her action.
“Where is your mummy or daddy?”. He asks her. He knows she can not be here alone and whoever is here with her is worried sick.
At the question, her face turns sour and she starts crying. He starts to panic immediately trying to find a way to get her to stop crying.
He spots a cotton candy shop near them and an idea comes to him. He turns her in the direction of the cotton candy stand to put it in her line of view.
“Look! Do you want some cotton candy?”. He points at the stand. She rubs her eyes and follows his line of sight. Her eyes light up, which shows Caleb that he made the right decision.
“Pink! Pink!”. She points excitedly at it.
Pink? Well, a win is a win, he thinks to himself.
He goes to the cotton candy stand and buys one. After collecting it, he hands it to her. Wrong move to give such to a 3-year-old because it lands on the floor the second she carries it.
She starts a tantrum again and he knows that if he doesn’t get her another one soon, he will be in trouble. He gestures to the man who is making the cotton candy to make another one.
He takes out $50 from his wallet and hands it to the man.
“Oh sir. It’s just $10. I don’t have any change”.
“You can keep the change”. Caleb gives him a smile which the man reciprocates with a grateful nod.
In a few seconds, the cotton candy is ready. This time, he has learned his lesson, and he holds the stick with his left hand while allowing her to eat from it.
He starts walking away from the stand and looks for a chair to sit down. He decides to go to the immigration office with her once she is done with the cotton candy.
After making a mess of the whole thing, she finishes it with pink sugar all over her face. He uses his handkerchief to clean her face.
A part of him strangely wants to keep her but he finds it ridiculous because the kid is not even his. Her eyes though…. They remind him of his own eyes. And her smile? They look so much like that woman’s own.
He must be overthinking things now.
“Aurora, you want some water?”. She nods in response.
He bends down to take a bottle of water from the side of his bag. He opens it and helps her to drink it.
When she’s had her fill, he carries her up in his arms again.
“Mama”. She starts calling out again. She begins to rub her eyes again and he immediately knows that she is about to start crying.
“Yes, we are going to mummy, so no need to cry, okay?”. She nods and keeps quiet.
He gives her a peck on her cheek and starts walking. He pauses when he feels something on his cheek. He turns to her surprised.
“You like copying me, don’t you?”. He chuckles. She covers her mouth and lets out cute little giggles.
He cannot stop himself from hugging her, so he does it anyway.
“I am going to miss you, little one”. She smiles at him as if understanding him.
“Alright, let’s go find Mama,” He asks for directions to the immigration office.
Coincidentally, at the same time he is leaving the outdoor area of the airport, Ava starts calling out for Aurora through the mic.
Caleb only starts hearing her voice when he has almost reached the office. He knocks on the door and enters. Inside the office, two people, a man and a woman, seated behind a desk in uniforms.
“Good day. I came to ask if you could help me find this little girl’s mother. I found her lost and it doesn’t look like she can tell us her mother’s name right now. Her name is Aurora”. He tries to place her down into the chair but she holds on tightly to his shirt.
The woman looks amused at the scene.
“Are you sure that’s not your daughter you are trying to dump with us?”. Caleb laughs at her question.
He is about to reply when the door opens up. The person that steps in, leaves him utterly dumbstruck.
“Ava?”
“Mama!”. Aurora says with outstretched arms.
He drove down to see her father and hear him out. He got there and met Sophia at the door, like she has been waiting for him to show up. " I have few minutes to spend here" he moved past her at the door and got inside the house. Mr. Taylor was already waiting for him as well. He felt like they were so sure he was going to come, that's why they were all waiting for him. " I do not have all day" he said as he sat down. " I heard she is back, she is in this City and you have lost your focus on my daughter" " She's my family and she will remain so" he said. " No, she's not. You both are divorced and you should move on, it's been years, you should have had a baby with Sophia already" It brought him Aurora's image. He was still trying to figure out who she was and why he had a strong connection with the little girl. " Are you even listening to me?" He slightly raised his voice. " You know what? I have to be clear with you on this, I do not want anything to do with Sophia anymore. S
His heart began to heat faster when they got to the house. It was a text he had gotten from Caleb. He looked hard at it." Is everything okay with you?" Ava asked. She had seen the way he looked worried. " I'm fine," he lied. He had wanted to tell her about Caleb's stalking but after he got a text from Caleb, he kicked against it. " I'll be in my room, make sure you call me if you need anything" he said. He stood before her, looking at how pretty she looked, even with her tired eyes. " I'll always call you," she said. He spread out his hands for a hug. It was the first time he was going to be doing that. Ava was surprised to see his wife's hands open like that. " What is going on with you?" She laughed. " Come on, you do not have to turn me down" he waited, with his hands still wide open for her. " Are you being serious right now?" She moved towards him and fell into his arms. It was warm. They stayed there for a while before Ava felt it was time to let go. She moved away
Their eyes did not leave each other. It held so much hatred, pain and anger. Ava ran her eyes through Sophia's body. " I wonder what you are doing here," she said. " I wonder why you go about the place with those that do not want you" Sophia said. Ava was confused, she could not place where that was or what it meant. She moved back a bit but Sophia was never going to have it. " Get back here" she held Ava's arms and dragged her back. " Hey, do not be silly. You can not come in here and act very stupid, I do not know what you are talking about and you should leave" " Why should I? After all these years, you decided to return to take away all that I have worked so hard for? You should have never returned, you should have turned down this job" she said. Anger and pain were all over her face. " I came here to do a job, I have no idea what you are talking about. If you have a problem with that, deal with it and leave me alone" she said. Sophia was upset with
Chapter 15He walked out of the room she was in and stepped out of there. He walked to the kitchen area and got water. " What do you want?" He spoke to the maid that was standing there. He felt like she was watching him. " Nothing" she rushed away. He opened the water and with a glass cup in his hands, he poured the water in it. His eyes would not leave the water. He held the cup in his hands and kept looking at it. Then he sighed, he dropped the cup and picked up his phone. He searched for Ava, he wanted to know if there is any new information about her that he can read, but there was nothing about her being uploaded. He dropped his phone, picked up the glass of water and gulped it down his throat. He took his phone and went back to the room. As soon as he stepped into the room, he noticed that the lights were turned off. He searched for the switch and turned it on. His eyes caught Sophia, she was on the bed, naked. She had her eyes all over him, with her breast in his face.
She made sure no one was following her. She stepped into the same restaurant that she had stepped into when she wanted to meet the investigator the first time about this job. She had received a message from him and had rushed out to hear what he wanted her to know. She sat down and frowned at his inability to come early. The door opened after a long while of her waiting for him. He walked in, grabbed a chair opposite her and sat down. " Sorry that I am late, I had something to attend to," he said. She frowned. " You had something to attend to and you kept me waiting, I am very busy for that" Sophia rolled her eyes, obviously feeling disgusted by it. " My apologies," he said. He kept a straight face at her. " You should start talking, I do not have the whole day" she said. " Right. I thought it was going to be hard getting this information, but it was not hard getting it because he has been following her all over the place and anywhere she goes" he said. Sophia felt her hear
Ava became scared, she was not comfortable with the way Chris had asked them to leave the place. " Is something wrong? You do not look okay, you look scared" she said. " Yeah, I do not look okay, I think someone is after us" he said She became confused, she thought about the reason anyone would follow her around the place and found none. She has not done anything to anyone to make anyone come after her that way. There was something about her environment as well that forced her to accept that something was wrong and she was being followed. She held her daughter very tight as they drove to her apartment. They got in and she got inside the place. " I'll let the security know about what is happening so that they can alert us and tell us what is going on," he said. Ava nodded her head. She was too scared to say anything. " Is something wrong?" Aurora asked her. " No, honey, everything is perfect," she said. She never wanted her child to sense her worries so she put a big smile
