Miriam’s POV
The sound of a loud beeping sound woke me up from my slumber.
I reluctantly opened my eyes and noticed it was almost dark.
“Gosh, how long did I sleep?” I muttered under my breath and stood up from the bed but the damn annoying beeping sound still continued.
I looked at the culprit, it was nothing else other than my alarm clock shaking like a vibrator on my side table.
I grabbed it and it took every ounce of willpower in me not to chunk it at the wall.
I turned off the alarm and slammed it back on the table while hoping that I had not broken it. But I was too mad that my beauty sleep got interrupted for me to care about a damn clock.
But then it struck me, I dozed off while I was on the couch.
Could Lazar have carried me to the room?
My heart swelled with unspoken happiness.
William was never this gentle with me when I was with him.
I really was so blind. What did I ever see in that good for nothing bastard?
I slowly pushed myself off the bed and made my way to the living room but to surprise Lazar was nowhere to be found.
“Where did he go?” I muttered under my breath as I searched for him.
Could he be disappointed with how things ended during our spicy moment earlier today?
I really did not want to sleep but I guess, I was so exhausted. I had no idea when I dozed off and I would have loved for us to continue.
Suddenly a loud noise pieced through the apartment.
My eyes widened in panic, as I looked around wondering what was going on.
It was the fire alarm.
“Were we supposed to have a drill today?” I muttered under my breath.
I grabbed my phone and scanned through my text but there was no fire drill notification from the building management.
I grabbed my coat, and made my way to the door to see if it was someone making a joke or if truly there was fire.
But before I could open the door, Lazar came barging in with a panicked and worried expression on his face.
I took a few steps backwards, as I was not expecting him to walk in.
“Are you okay?” Lazar asked, turning me around like a child inspecting every part of my body.
“I am okay. What's wrong with you? " I asked, starting to get scared.
“Come on, we have to go.” He grabbed my hand and practically dragged me out of the building.
“Go where?” I asked.
“Can't you hear the fire alarm, we need to evacuate.” He yelled and at that moment my phone rang.
I checked it and it was a message from the building management telling everyone to move out explaining it was not a drill.
That was when it hit me. My apartment building was on fire.
I quickly rushed back to the room grabbing my laptop, my gadgets as well as my precious stuffed animal.
“Miriam what the hell are you doing?” Lazar asked as he walked into my room with a furious look in his eyes. But I was so busy grabbing my most precious items to care about how he felt.
“What if the fire engulfed everything? I need to save…”
Before I could complete my sentence I felt the world move upside down.
One moment I was sorting through my clothes the next I was hanging upside down, gripping my plushie tightly as I looked around to understand what had happened.
“Whatever gets lost can be replaced.” He muttered and made his way out of the room, with me on his shoulder.
“Wait Lazar, at least I need my laptop and my phone.”I cried out.
Reluctantly he went back and grabbed my laptop and my phone while I remained on his shoulders.
“You know I can walk on my own?” I said as I watched his feet move, breaking down the stairs.
“I know.” He replied.
I sighed in defeat and soon after we were outside the building. The sound of fire tricks filled the air and different fire men were rushing into the building. My neighbours stood outside with a worried expression on their faces but Lazar did not stop.
“Uhmmm ... .excuse me where are you going?” I asked him as he continued walking farther away from the building.
“Clearly it will take a while for us to move back and I have a surprise to show you.”
I looked around, surprise?
Although I loved surprises, I don't think now is the best time for it. I need to find out what's going to happen with my apartment and building.
I have no idea where the fireworks started or what was the cause of the fire.
“Lazar….”
“No, you are not going back there.” His voice was fine as he placed me back down on my feet.
Although he was gentle I almost had whiplash. I had been hanging upside down for a while, I was feeling a little bit light headed.
“Are you okay?” He asked, grabbing my waist and inspecting my face.
“Well I told you I could walk by myself.” I pushed him away, glaring at his unforgiving good looking face.
“I know, but I thought your short legs were going to slow us down. I did not want anything to happen to you.” He said and my eyes widened in horror.
He did not, he did not just call my legs short.
“Come let's go check out the suprise.” He said opening the door of a Rolls Royce car.
I was not really a car person, but at least I knew what a Rolls Royce was and also knew that they are expensive and this particular car looked very…very expensive.
I gave Lazar a look, but he ignored my eyes and coaxed me into the car before making his way to the driver's seat while I stayed seated in the passenger seat, looking around.
“Where did you get this car from?” I asked, as a weird feeling started to spread in my mind.
Lazar told me he was just a carpenter, he did not have an apartment the time we met each other for the first time and all of a sudden, he was riding a Rolls Royce, going on business trips.
Was he truly a carpenter or was he lying to me?
“My boss gave it to me.” He replied.
He helped me buckle up my seat belt and drove out of the curb into the busy street.
He was behaving shady, although I did not want to admit it.
First he carried me out of the apartment building and refused to pass the main entrance like he was avoiding something.
Like he did not want people to see him, to see us.
Was it possible that….
I stared at Lazar's side profile observing his face but he only flashed me like everything was okay.
I grabbed my phone and texted the one person I could trust.
‘I need you to look into smithing for me.’ I texted.
Soon after she replied.
‘Hey bestie, what do you want?’ Sara replied.
‘I want you to do a thorough background check, I feel like you must have missed something the last time. I don't know what it is but something feels odd.’ I texted.
For a while she did not reply. She was most probably wondering why I was doing all this.
‘I will look into it.’
I dropped my phone and glanced at Lazar, I could not help but notice that he did not look out of place driving the Rolls Royce.
Who really was this man?

Lazar's POV The feel of her soft lips against mine was earth shaking. For a second it felt like my body wasn't mine anymore, I wanted to feel every part of her body against mine.Gosh, I missed herI missed her touch, her scent, her smile, her voice.“Lazar…” she moaned and I lost all my sense of reasoning. It felt like my brain completely shut down and my instincts took over.I grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up, her legs wrapped around my waist and her arms tightened around my neck while our tongues explored each other.“You are going to be the death of me Miriam.” I slowly made my way to the living room. Almost tripping on the little side table beside the couch but I was too focused on having Miriam on my arm to be bothered about anything. As soon as we laid down on the couch ready to take things to the next step, the annoying sound of a phone buzzing pierced through the air.“Your…your phone is ringing.” Miriam said halting out passionate kiss slightly pushing me back.I
Miriam’s POV I could not meet his gaze. It felt like I was having a stand off with a lion.He said he was a mere carpenter but he gave off the vibes of a mafia lord no one would want to mess with.“Well…I can't remember any of that.” I lied. I remember it well. How I was going about saying I was getting divorced just because I had not heard from my husband for some days. But it was not just my fault, he was also at fault for abandoning me.“Oh..really?” He asked, taking a few steps closer while I took a few steps backward. His gaze made me feel like a prey. And he would jump me any moment from now.“Ye…yes.” I stuttered, still not meeting his eyes.“Hmmmm…. interesting. Now tell me, do you want to get a divorce?” He whispered into my ears.I was so lost in my thoughts I had no idea when he moved so close. He was fast, how was it possible for him to move so fast and I did not notice.“I….” I muttered under my breath not knowing how to respond.I had no idea why I suddenly lost my ab
Miriam’s POV My head was banging like crazy. It felt like the whole room was spinning.“Ughhhhh” I groaned into the pillow trying to catch my breath.Every single part of my body aches like I had been hit by a truck. But then I realised I was home. How did I get home?I sat up from the bed and immediately regretted it as soon as I did.Every single part of my body protested with each movement I made and I was…. completely naked.“What the hell happened last night?” I massaged my temple with my fingers as I tried to recall the events of last night but the only thing I could remember was dancing on the dance floor and then….I saw him… I remember seeing Lazar.“Oh! Finally awake" Lazar walked into the room with a glass of milk and a tray of breakfast balanced on one arm.“Ahhhh.” I screamed out loud covering my exposed body with the blanket.“Why are you here? And why am I naked?” I panicked.“Well…. Why do you think you are naked?” He asked with a coy smile on his lips as he set dow
Lazar's POV The meeting with Raneesh was just like I expected, he lied to me, making me seem like a fool.“You know Raneesh, one thing I hate the most aside from stealing is lies. I hate when people lie to me. I will give you a chance to clean up whatever mess you started or all hell will break loose. It is better to be my ally than my enemy.” I warned him over the phone.“Lazar, I think there is a mis….” I ended the call before he could complete his sentence.I was not ready for his bullshit.“How are we going to deal with Raneesh?” Rodosov asked as we walked out of the office.“Get me on line with Malik, it seems there is going to be a shift in power.” Since Raneesh has proven to be disloyal, it's high time I got rid of him.I don't play with my business and indefinitely don't work with traitors.“And…. I have something to tell you.” Rodosov said as we got into the car. There was so much work I needed to get done, so I could finally reunite with Miriam. Just the thought of her wan
Miriam’s POV It’s been almost a week of constant nightmare and awkward interaction with Williams at the office. Also I still haven't heard anything from my supposed husband.“So is your husband back from his trip?” Sara asked as she drove me back to my apartment.“Well not at all. And I haven't heard from him since he dropped that last text message.” I replied.“Well, it was quite a hurried marriage. As long as he has no idea about your wealth why don't you divorce him. Don't forget he was the one your father set you up with, he must be up to no good.” Sara replied.Speaking of my father, that bastard has also been harassing me all week.“Gosh… I can't seem to get a break from all these relationship drama. He seems hot and all but I guess he is a douche bag, and I need to prioritize myself right now.” Sara glanced at me and smiled.“What? Why are you smiling?” I asked finding her behaviour odd.“Well I am just so proud of you. You are finally putting yourself first.”I nodded my he
