Chapter 1

Auteur: Buffay
When that severely decomposed, headless corpse was dug up, a lot of the werewolves vomited.

But I just stared at the lush green forest around us. It suddenly dawned on me that four years had passed.

Four years ago, my mate, Antoine Swanson, offended Logan Benton, an Alpha of a high-ranking pack, and almost got driven into bankruptcy.

For Antoine's sake, I swallowed my pride and begged everyone I could for help. In the end I managed to earn Logan's forgiveness and even secured a massive investment for him.

But just as I was heading back to tell Antoine the good news, his puphood sweetheart, Kailyn Greene, lured me deep into the forest and trapped me in a cave.

She used a silver cage to bind me, completely severing my connection to my wolf. Then, she shattered my bones one by one and ripped my wolf fangs out of my jaw.

By the time Antoine finally arrived, my head had already been severed.

Kailyn wiped away her tears and claimed I had stolen the investment money she worked so hard to secure and run off with a lover.

And Antoine—my mate who swore he loved me—believed her without a second thought.

From that day on, he hated me.

He banned the other wolves from even mentioning my name, ordered the pack warriors to stop looking for me, and stripped me of my title as Luna of the Moonlight pack.

He left me to rot out there, entirely on my own.

Because I couldn't rest in peace, my soul was tethered to that cave, unable to leave.

Until today.

When my brother, Jason Welch, dug up my body, my broken remains finally saw the light of day. I was finally free to leave the cave that had imprisoned me for four years.

First, I floated over to Jason and waved, hoping he could see me, but he couldn't. Masked and frowning, he methodically examined my body. "Unlike the previous bodies, this one is missing its head."

He paused. "Why do I feel so uneasy looking at this?"

His eyes lingered on my remains, his frown deepening.

Just when I thought Jason might finally recognize me, he simply rubbed his temples. "Something's different about this one. Not only is the head missing, but the bones were completely shattered."

A flash of pity crossed his eyes, and he turned to the others. "She was brutally tortured before she died. Have the council prioritize this body. Compare it against the wolves reported missing across all packs these past few years. We need to identify her as soon as possible."

After giving his orders, Jason took off his hazmat suit.

Maybe it was the bond of blood, but he kept looking back at my body as he walked away. Still, he didn't realize it was me.

As a dull ache blossomed in my chest, I saw Kailyn and Antoine walking in, hand in hand.

Jason immediately stepped forward, blocking Kailyn's path. His eyes overflowed with affection.

Then, he shot a disapproving look at Antoine. "What are you doing bringing Kailyn here? This place is full of corpses. She's pregnant. What if it affects the pup? She should be resting."

Smiling, Antoine pulled Kailyn into his arms. "The healer said she needs to walk around. Kailyn missed you, so I figured I'd bring her to see you."

Jason smiled and patted Kailyn on the head. "Antoine, you're going to spoil her rotten. First, you buy her a 30-million-dollar wolf fang necklace, and now you're skipping three major meetings just to take her for a walk."

"And you're one to talk. Ever since you took Kailyn in as your foster sister four years ago, everyone knows you're totally obsessed with spoiling her," Antoine teased back.

He added, "Besides, if Kailyn hadn't saved me with that new investment back then, I wouldn't be where I am today. Now that I have all this, of course I'm going to give her the best of everything."

The three of them chatted and laughed as they walked out of the cave, and my soul floated right along with them.

Jason stole one last glance toward my body before speaking up again. "We found a headless she-wolf corpse in the cave today. Judging by the bone age, she was in her early 20s, right around Irene's age—"

Before he could finish, Antoine cut him off, visibly annoyed. Disgust filled his face. "I don't want to hear her name. I'm about to hold the marking ceremony with Kailyn. She's your sister, so we're family now. That irrelevant she-wolf has nothing to do with me."

Those cruel words would have shattered me in the past. But right now, my eyes were locked onto the wolf fang necklace around Kailyn's neck. It was a bone-deep calling.

I had felt a wave of unease the moment I saw Kailyn. And now, I finally recognized what she was wearing.

Those were my wolf fangs.

Kailyn had ripped eight fangs from my mouth. Now, they were carved into a piece of art. And Antoine had bought them for an astronomical price, presenting them to Kailyn as a pregnancy gift.

When Antoine returned to the Moonlight pack, Kailyn had already prepared a lavish dinner. She rushed forward and hugged him, carefully studying his expression before probing, "Why did you come back alone? Where are Jason and the others?"Antoine acted completely natural. "They're claiming the body and discussing where to bury Irene. I was tired, so I came back first.""Oh? I thought you'd stay with them," Kailyn murmured.Antoine sat at the dining table. "I've realized that Irene and I just weren't meant to be. I can't stay depressed forever."He forced a smile at her. "I still have the pack and the company to run. I need to pull myself together. Let's hold our marking ceremony at the end of the month. I'll forget Irene and spend the rest of my life with you."Kailyn finally relaxed at his words. She sat beside him and poured him a glass of red wine, unable to hide the smug satisfaction in her eyes. "I'm glad you see it that way, Antoine," she said. "No one could have predicted

Seeing my body again was still a horrific shock. After multiple autopsies, my remains looked even worse. What was left of me lay in a chaotic mess on the cold autopsy table.Ryland laid out the gruesome details of my death to my family. "The case is officially solved, and I need to share the findings regarding Irene's death."The perpetrators shattered her limbs one by one, then ripped out her fangs. According to the confession, she had a fierce will to live. She never cried or begged for mercy, right up until her head was severed."The moment Ryland finished, Mom fainted from grief. Dad held her, tears streaming down his face.Even Jason, a hardened chief warrior who had seen endless war and death, choked up. Gritting his teeth, he stared at my broken corpse. His voice trembled as he said, "Irene, it must have hurt so much. We raised you to never cry, no matter how hard it got. But how did you hold back your tears when facing that kind of torture?"Jason closed his eyes and we

"How is that possible?" Jason yelled. But no one answered him.Even Antoine froze in shock, his expression rapidly twisting into utter panic. "No way! She stole that massive fortune from Kailyn. How could she be dead?"Ryland took in everyone's expressions before fixing a cold gaze on Kailyn. "Kailyn, there is something I must inform you of. We obtained precise testimony from the accomplice we apprehended today. Those wolf fangs on the necklace you're wearing belonged to Irene."The moment the words left his mouth, Antoine and the others stared at Kailyn's throat in sheer horror.Kailyn's face was drained of color. In a frantic panic, she ripped the necklace off her neck.Mom covered her mouth and rushed into the bathroom to throw up.Antoine stared at the necklace, then looked at Ryland in disbelief. "Are you saying… this necklace… is made from Irene's fangs?"Ryland nodded, a flicker of profound pity crossing his eyes.Watching my family unravel in panic and horror, I found

The call came from Jason. His voice sounded frantic. "The autopsy results are in. The victim was 24 years old. The estimated time of death is roughly four years ago."The case has been transferred to Lycan King's High Council. Their forensics division is already running DNA matches against missing she-wolves. Antoine, this is a horrific crime, and they're already narrowing down a list of prime suspects."The victim's age matches Kailyn's profile perfectly, and the crime scene isn't far from the Moonlight pack. You need to keep a close eye on Kailyn during this time and make sure she doesn't leave the territory."Antoine's expression turned solemn as he repeatedly promised to keep Kailyn safe.Floating in midair, my soul found the whole thing darkly comical. One was my brother, and the other was my mate who once claimed to love me. Neither of them even considered that I might be the one who was murdered. Instead, they showered the she-wolf who killed me with concern, worrying over

Kailyn leaned into Antoine's chest, looking up at him with a picture of pure innocence. "Antoine, do you still hate Irene for running away?"Honestly, it's entirely my fault. If I hadn't messed up and caused Logan to target you, Irene wouldn't have taken the money and run. It really is all on me. I never should have fallen in love with you…"Antoine kissed her cheek tenderly, his eyes full of sympathy. "It has nothing to do with you. Irene is the only one to blame. I never expected her to abandon me and steal the funds when I needed her most."She even went as far as cutting off her mind-link with the other werewolves just to hide her whereabouts. She's so ruthless she even abandoned her own family."If we had gone through with the marking ceremony and established a mate bond, she probably would have severed that and left me without a second thought, too."That's why I need to thank you. Thank you for not giving up on me, for securing that investment, and for helping me pull throu

My soul drifted right in front of Antoine.I opened my mouth, desperate to tell him that I hadn't run off, I hadn't stolen the money, and even Kailyn's investment had actually been stolen from me.She had murdered me, and the necklace around her neck had been made from my wolf fangs. But Antoine couldn't hear a thing. He couldn't hear the screams from the depths of my soul, let alone the injustice I had suffered.Simply hearing my name had ruined his mood for the day. With a cold expression, he brought Kailyn back to the Moonlight pack.My soul followed Antoine home.Four years had passed. Every single trace of me had been scrubbed clean from the house. In their place was everything about Kailyn. The walls were covered in photos of her, mostly intimate shots of her and Antoine together. The kind of photos he used to claim were beneath his dignity to hang up when I asked were now prominently displayed everywhere.Even someone as proud and arrogant as Antoine was willing to remo
