[3rd Person’s POV]
She nibbled her lower lip. Confused as she opened the folder. Her lips parted open as she saw a handsome picture of a man. The man that has been the talk of the town before she arrived.
“By the looks on your face, I assumed you heard of him?” Jerry asked her.
Katalina tilted her head. “Who wouldn’t know him?” she caressed Hunter’s face on the photo.
Jerry agreed. “Exactly,” he watched her reading the articles attached to the folder.
A line was etched on Katalina’s forehead. She continued to read the exposé about Hunter. “He’s too perfect. These articles are top-notched,” she looked at her editor. “You know I can’t top these, right? These are all different praises for Hunter.”
“I know, I was the one who gave you that.”
“Then what should I do?”
Jerry could see the eagerness in Katalina’s eyes. He knew too well how the lady wanted to reclaim back her glory. “Find dirt on him.”
Katalina was taken aback. Her brows furrowed. “Excuse me?”
There was a moment of silence.
Jerry shrugged his shoulders. “If you can’t beat them, join them. Yet, still, we can’t join them,” he chuckled. “I’m not saying our company’s output is trash. But there are news outlets that customers prefer nowadays.”
She listened.
“I’ve talked to our supervisor. And convinced her that you deserve to stay here,” he hold her hand. “You’re a passionate woman, Katalina. I know that. And this,” his eyes fell on Hunter’s face.
“This man will bring your glory back,” Jerry uttered.
“By unveiling his dark secrets,” Katalina responded.
He nodded his head in agreement. “Exactly. I’m certain that Hunter has a closet full of skeletons,” an eerie smile appeared on his lips.
Katalina stared hard at the billionaire’s photo. Her conscience consumed her. She shook her head. “I think there’s another way.”
Jerry raised a brow. “What is it then? If the other way is not you getting fired and killing your own career then what is it?” he mocked, giving her a slice of possibilities.
She pursed her lips. “I don’t think this is the right thing,” she whispered under her breath.
Katalina was torn between choosing her career or making the right decision.
“Honey, everyone does it now. Every personality, celebrity, and the big shark had someone to criticize them. The difference is that you’ll be the pioneering. And in return, you’ll be famous again, stay in the job you’re passionate about and more incentives coming along way,” Jerry convinced her.
She closed the folder. And looked away from him.
Jerry sighed in disappointment. “Well, I guess you are right,” he stood up. “I shouldn’t have begged our supervisor to fire you,” he took the folder.
Before Jerry could take a step, Katalina held his wrist. He smiled at the back of his head.
“You made the right choice, Jerry. I’m in,” she took back the folder and opened her laptop.
He watched her in amusement. “Now, that’s what I’m talking about.”
Jerry left Katalina and went to do his personal business.
Katalina spent hours and hours, searching for the man’s whereabouts and pieces of information about Hunter’s life.
Like Hunter’s favorite color is teal, he likes to go swimming and is single.
She became his stalker for quite long hours. Her neck stiffed. “Oh my gosh,” she tilted from side to side and gently massaged the aching area.
Her eyes widened in disbelief when she looked around her. The company was deserted and she was left alone inside.
She looked at the clock hanging on the wall and realized that it is an hour away before it is midnight.
Katalina shook her head. “Am I that desperate to have this job?” she asked herself.
“Probably,” she answered her own question.
Yawning as she closes her laptop. She readied herself to go home. As she left the office, her mind could only think of Hunter.
For the past hours that she’s been searching, she had already forgotten the feeling of being hungry and tired.
“I thought you’ll extend your stay there, miss,” the guard said.
She snapped from her thoughts and gently jumped in her tracks. “Oh,” she laughed wryly.
Katalina cleared her throat. “Sorry for keeping you waiting here,” she smiled sheepishly.
“Nah. My shift will end at midnight. So, it’s okay,” he chuckled. Katalina waved goodbye at her and resumed walking on the roadside.
There’s a restaurant nearby and can be accessed by walking through the company she was working for. There are few people inside the restaurant. Most of them are couples.
She sauntered and found a vacant table on the last row. The waiter approached her and she ordered. “Medium rare steak and red wine for one, please.”
The waiter repeated her order. After confirming, he then processed it to the kitchen.
Katalina waited for her food to be cooked. She took out her phone. She opened her social media account.
She was shocked but wasn’t surprised that her news feed would be all about praises and love for Hunter Collins.
“Who wouldn’t love him?” she read the caption of her friend in college who took a selfie with the billionaire.
She scoffed. “Yeah. Who wouldn’t?” she resumed to scroll up.
Her ears perked up when the television caught her attention.
“Hunter Collins begged the paparazzi for some privacy,” the newscaster opened her statement. “Earlier this morning, the hottest billionaire descended from his car and pleaded with the paparazzi to respect his time. Reporters flooded Collin’s mansion every day just to get a picture of him.”
She continued to listen. “They are nuts,” she commented.
The waiter placed the food on her table. He followed Katalina’s eyes. “Indeed they are.”
She looked at him.
“The media are going frenzy about Hunter,” the waiter added. He looked at her. “Oh, sorry for talking to you, though, my bad.”
But for Katalina, it was an opportunity for her to acquire more information.
“No, it’s okay. I’m Pauline,” she disguised her name. Katalina offered her hand.
“My name is Preston,” they shook hands together.
Katalina cleared her throat when the waiter’s face turned as red as a tomato. “So, don’t you like him? I-I mean, people, love and patronize him. Do you?”
Preston shook his head. “Not at all. I heard a rumor that Hunter is a mafia boss and he sells human organs.”
Fire ignites in her heart and brought back her fuel of writing. “Really? How about you join me here at the table and let’s have a conversation about this.”
“Are you a reporter? Journalist or a cop? Because I’m not speaking to any of them.”
“Nah. Not at all. Just an ordinary lady.”
[3rd Person’s POV]“Jesus Christ!’ she exclaimed, staring at her reflection in the mirror.Katalina turned on the faucet of the lavatory. She washed her face and stare for the second time in the mirror. “I should definitely sleep,” she commented. The dark bags underneath her eyes are visible, her chapped lips are accentuated, and stress is painted all over her face. She walks out of the bathroom. And headed back to her mini workspace. She sat in front of her laptop once again.“Mafia boss, horny billionaire, leader of a syndicate….” Katalina sighed. This could be the exposé she needed. But netizens are smarter nowadays. She massaged her temples. “Still no proof. But at least, I have a list of his possible motives,” she sounded like a detective, chasing the most wanted criminal.Katalina laid back and inhaled deeply. She’s tired and wishes to sleep. But the caffeine still runs through her veins. After dinner with the waiter last night, she did not stop digging for more information abou
[3rd Person’s POV]Friday came. Two hours before the charity gala, Katalina was ready. She’s walking back in forth, practising her speech in front of the mirror. “Hi! I’m Katalina! A real estate agent. Nice to meet you!” she projected the most alluring smile.Katalina was satisfied with her speech. But something tells her that it wasn’t enough. “Argh!” she groaned in exhaustion. Her room was a mess. The papers are still on the floor. Scattered. She lacks time of sorting things. Katalina was busy embodying what she should have. A fake real estate agent. She even went to an acting workshop to make her skills more authentic. Sighing as she stood in front of the whole body mirror. The red velvet body con dress accentuates her innate curves and medium-sized bust. Her fair skin contrasted the dress perfectly. She sighed. “Finally! I met the crowd’s favorite! Hi, Mister Collins.”Katalina laughed and shook her head. “I won’t mess up. You got this right, Katalina,” she reminded herself. “You’
[3rd Person’s POV]“Geez! Where is he!?” she asked frantically. In a blink of an eye, she lost Hunter in her sight. The waiter just chuckled, thinking that Katalina was just one of the ladies who was into his boss. He left her.Katalina looked around with an eyes as sharp as an eagle. She couldn’t lose Hunter. She sauntered through the crowded place. Hoping that Hunter was there, mingling with the crowd. But she failed. The auction began. “For $90,000 as a starting bid,” the emcee announced. His apprentice removed the cover of the painting. The people gasped.Katalina was curious. She looked at the painting and was stunned as well.“A half-naked painting of Mister Collins and—”“$300,000!” a woman with white hair bid.The emcee chuckled. “Wow. We have a first bidder. Any taker? Do I hear $400,000?”“$1,000,000!”The bidding goes higher and higher. Katalina glanced once more at the painting before she left and resumed to hunt the famous billionaire. He’s intelligent. Katalina praised H
[3rd Person’s POV] Hunter eyed her from head to foot. For the nth time, he was convinced with his instinct. “You’re not lost,” he said. Katalina bit her lower lip. Hunter Collin’s voice arouses something inside her. “W-What?” she asked, feigning innocence. The billionaire walked closer to her. Flashing his infamous charming smile that made her cheeks blush. “The whole finding the restroom thing, it was a charade.” She fell silent. Like Hunter’s admirers, Katalina understood why they can’t stop staring at him. He is a work of art. Hunter’s innate handsomeness and oozing sex appeal precede before his name. Katalina scoffed. “Alright,” she raised her hands in the air. “You got me.” “I knew it,” he smirked. She opened her purse and gave him a fake calling card. With her name, contact details and address of her so-called business. “I’m Amanda Bynes. A real estate agent,” she offered her hand. Katalina lied about her identity. The billionaire seemed confused. So, she added a tin
[3rd Person’s POV] The car stopped moving. Katalina snapped from her thoughts. She looked at the driver in the mirror. Their gazes met. “We’re here,” he informed. Katalina nodded. She picked up her handbag and glanced at her. She smiled. “What’s your name?” “Ian.” “Nice to meet you, Ian,” Katalina descended from the car. She waved goodbye at him before entering the company. It was her nature to be kind. Even if her origins were dark, Katalina’s heart was pure. As she entered the building, she was observing the workplace. Katalina can’t say anything negative about it. For a starter in business, he hit the beginner’s luck! Katalina said at the back of her head. She stopped at the front desk. “Excuse me, miss?” she caught the attention of the lady with a pony tail. “Hi! Good morning, miss. Anything I can help with?” she asked with a smile on her face. Katalina read the name template on her uniform. “Cara, right?” “Yes.” “I’m Hunter’s newly hired personal assistant,” Katalina
[3rd Person’s POV] Hunter took a break from his computer. Admiring how diligent his new personal assistant was. A smile crept through his face. Paparazzi's would die just to capture Hunter’s image, smiling genuinely. Katalina felt eyes on her. She searched where it originated. Her gaze met his boss’. She gasped. “W-What?” The handsome billionaire shook his head. “You’re efficient.” “Because I’m getting paid,” she cackled. Hunter bobbed his head. “Hey, Amanda,” he chuckled. “If you’re tired, you can rest.” Katalina closed the folder. She placed it on top of another pile. “I’m nearly finished. What else should I do?” The billionaire expected Katalina to finish it by the end of the day. He was astonished by how quick she was in organizing. “What should we have for lunch?” he picked up his phone and dialled his favorite local restaurant. She lifted her gaze at him. “You want me to buy something?” He shook his head. “I’ll order for us.” She watched Hunter talking over the phone
[3rd Person’s POV] “Shit!” Katalina hurriedly gets inside a cab. She pointed to her boss’ car in front of them. “Please, follow that car.” “I’m on a break,” the driver munched the burger. “Please, h-he’s cheating on me!” she lied. Katalina faked crying. The driver seemed to convince. “That bastard!” he turned on the car’s engine and tailed behind Hunter’s car. “Thank you,” she said carefully which came out as a whisper. She took out her phone. And proceed to videotape the actual scene. Katalina also took pictures. Her heart was in her throat. She believed that this will lead her to the tip of the iceberg. The one that she wishes to discover to tarnish Hunter’s reputation. “I’m sick of those news tabloids,” she said. Katalina thought she said it to herself. The driver glanced at her. “What’s with the tabloid?” Katalina snapped her head. She sniffled. “Those cheating husbands.” Her mind was too quick to come up with some things. Thoughts are flowing inside her head. Determin
[3rd Person’s POV] Hunter held her hand. They entered the room. Katalina could not explain how nervous she was. Her heart can jump out from her chest. She swallowed a lump on her throat. Watching his boss looking at her. “How did you know I was here?” “I-I asked.” “Who?” “People around the street,” Katalina pursed her lips. He stared intently into her eyes. Hunter could tell that Katalina was nervous. He was not mad. He was just trying to decipher if she was telling the truth or not. “Are you sure?” he asked. Katalina nodded her head. “Yes, boss.” “I find it hard to believe. My schedules were written on my laptop,” Hunter said. She paled. The colors of her face drained. “Fine,” she closed her eyes. “You hack into my laptop—” “No! I asked the reporters about where you could have been,” she looked at her foot. Trying to hide the doubt on her face. The deafening silence fell upon them. Hunter was about to speak. But the woman who was with him approached him. "Who is she?"
