Chapter 1

"Bernice, don't think that just because you're back home that you can steal my place. A country bumpkin like you shouldn't covet things that don't belong to you.”

"So what if you're their biological daughter? The only person Mom, Dad and Daniel will ever love is me. You're nothing but a stranger who happens to share their blood."

Victoria Harrington hugged me with a bright smile on her face, but the words she whispered in my ear sent chills down my spine.

I could not control myself and pushed Victoria away. I watched as my family, who had been looking at us sisters embracing with relief, instantly showed expressions of disappointment on their faces.

Their expressions were so vivid that I realized I had been reborn. Reborn back to the day I was first brought back to the Harrington family.

Victoria and I had been switched at birth since we were babies. While I was in the countryside, so hungry that I ate scraps meant for animals, she was in the city eating proper meals and could even go to the store every year to buy new clothes.

Just when I had resigned myself to living day after day working the fields, trying to get more money, I was recognized and brought back to the Harrington family.

I thought it would be the beginning of a happy life, but I never imagined that my truly miserable life was just starting.

Desperate for the family love I had always craved, I tried to get close to them, hoping to find that warmth.

Yet when Victoria flaunted the love she received in front of me, I could not control the jealousy in my heart.

I complained in my mind that my parents did not love me at all, that their kindness to me was just purposeful compensation. Over time, my relationship with my family grew worse.

Eventually, I even believed Victoria's manipulation and did things that harmed both others and myself, ultimately getting myself kicked out of the Harrington family.

Hence, with no skills and no family left, I died on a snowy night, while Victoria built her perfect life on my grave with people who loved and cherished her.

It turned out that Victoria had somehow gained the ability to make my inner thoughts audible to my blood relatives.

That was why she constantly provoked me, making me believe that my family did not love me. She made me believe that she was the only one loved by my parents, while I was just a burden who happened to share their blood.

The intense unwillingness and hatred made my soul linger in place for a long time, watching as Victoria enjoyed the love and happiness my family afforded her.

However, even this happiness was not enough for Victoria. She worked with her real parents from the countryside to gradually take everything from the Harrington family as her own.

Stealing the Harrington family's wealth was not enough. During dinner on New Year's Eve, Victoria put a packet of poison into the seafood stew that had been prepared.

Watching my parents and brother unknowingly swallow their meal mouthful by mouthful, I screamed and tried to rush forward to stop them. However, as a spirit, I was powerless.

I could only watch helplessly as my family fell to the ground convulsing, eventually growing silent.

"You idiots. If you'd just loved me, everything would've been fine, but no, you had to search for your precious biological daughter and prepare all those gifts for her, talking about making up for lost time. Those were all mine, mine!”

"You said you'd treat us equally, but you actually couldn't wait to empty your entire fortune for her. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have had to kill you so quickly. Fortunately, she was also an idiot who actually believed me when I said you didn't love her.”

"Idiots deserve to die, but now I've at least reunited your entire family. Now everything the Harringtons have is mine to enjoy."

Amidst Victoria's triumphant laughter, my consciousness gradually faded.

"Did you make this soup yourself?" Daniel asked with a dark expression.Victoria, not understanding why, nodded her head."Good, very good!" Daniel sneered through gritted teeth. Then he grabbed a chicken from the yard and poured the seafood soup on the ground.Seeing Daniel like this, Victoria panicked. Even in the dead of winter, cold sweat broke out on her forehead as she sat and looked on anxiously.Soon, the chicken fell straight to the ground and lay completely still. Seeing this, my family understood everything.Dad, Mom and Daniel all had exhausted and incredulous looks on their faces."I never thought that after raising you for so many years, you'd turn into such an ungrateful wretch.”"If it wasn't for Bernice, we really would have fallen into her trap."Dad looked at the dead chicken on the ground with a heartbroken expression, his once straight back suddenly sagging.Mom was already in tears, sitting there in a daze. She could not believe that the little daughter

Over the following days, Daniel busily prepared everything for my job. Finally, on the last working day before the New Year, he got my work arrangements settled. The whole family sat together happily eating dinner. Even Victoria, who had been upset about the job situation earlier, kept praising me at the dinner table.I had to admit that her behavior during this period had been quite commendable. She not only took care of all the household chores, big and small, but also used her own allowance to buy me many things. This softened Mom's attitude considerably, even though she had been displeased with Victoria before this.Privately, she advised me, "Sweetheart, don't be angry at your sister anymore. She's not bad at heart, just competitive.”"Don't worry, I'll make sure she behaves and doesn't hurt you. I just hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive her, okay?"Looking at Mom's bloodshot eyes, my heart ached. My mother was always so kind. In my previous life, no matter h

Taking a deep breath, I quickly scraped some off with a knife into a bowl, then poured in a bowl of plain water. Then I rushed back into the room, had Daniel lift Victoria up, pinched her nose, and directly poured the doctored water down her throat."Ugh! Bernice, what did you make me drink? It smells awful!" The awakened and coughing Victoria looked furious, as if she wanted to tear me apart.Mom saw her reaction and stepped in front of me. "What are you yelling about? Your sister was just trying to save you, and look, you're fine now! If it wasn't for her, who knows what would've happened before we got you to the hospital?"She spoke sharply, scolding her without mercy.Hearing this, Victoria did not dare say anything more and just lowered her head, lost in thought.Looking at the disheveled figure sitting on the ground, Daniel straightened up and said coldly,"Victoria, you've really disappointed me."It was like he was seeing his beloved little sister with new eyes."Daniel

Hearing this, Victoria, who had just entered, lowered her head and did not dare to speak."What's wrong? What happened? Your sister just got back. Why are you suddenly so angry at her?"Mom noticed the tense atmosphere in the living room and quickly stepped forward to ask."Ask her what she's done!"Hearing this, Mom hurriedly grabbed Victoria's arm and asked anxiously, "What happened? Tell me!"Victoria looked up with red-rimmed eyes, gazing pitifully at everyone in the room, then dropped to her knees in front of Mom with a thud."Mom, I got confused and made a mistake, but I swear I didn't mean to…”"It's just that my classmate heard Daniel say he was getting a job for his sister, so she went ahead and put my name down," Victoria cried as she explained what had happened. It turned out that while Daniel was looking for connections to secure this position for me, Victoria had not been idle either.Unfortunately, she discovered that this position was actually being sold by her

The next few days were surprisingly peaceful. Victoria stopped coming to me with her comments and was out early and back late every day, busy with something.I was pulled along by Mom to accompany her, either shopping at the department store or staying home with her trying different recipes. After living two lifetimes, this was the first time I experienced what it felt like to be truly loved. As my inner gratitude grew, Mom looked at me with increasing tenderness.Every day, she prepared different nutritious meals for me and would not let me do any chores, treating me like a precious gem.Under Mom's daily care and attention, I seemed like a completely different person. My former gaunt and sickly appearance was gone, replaced by the look of a proper city girl. Wearing a newly made checkered dress, I could even turn heads when I walked down the street.Early that morning, Mom pulled me straight over to the department store."Sweetheart, Daniel got his bonus yesterday. Let's buy

After a while, Mom wiped away her tears. Then she looked at me with difficulty. "Bernice, don't blame her. Victoria is usually very well-behaved. She was probably just misled by someone else. After this lesson, we'll educate her properly. It won't happen again.”"Don't worry. No matter what, we'll always treat you and her equally. I can't gain one daughter just to lose another. Can you forgive me? And forgive your sister too?"Looking at Mom's graying hair, I felt pangs of pain in my heart. If not for my previous life, I probably would still think I was unwelcome and unwanted, but now I knew that Mom and Dad were just soft-hearted. They always believed that their children could be saved, so they refused to give up.Seeing their earnest expressions, I nodded. "I'm fine with it."Then I added in my thoughts, 'As long as Mom, Dad and Daniel are happy, I'm willing to do anything. Besides, Victoria grew up by their side, so it's natural that they would love her a little more.'Hearin
