Episode 6

I had to listen to my husband complaint, he wasn't okay with my brooding relationship with his mistress. I laughed; I didn't laugh because I felt like it, I giggled because it was starting to become fun seeing my husband in such a destabilized demeanor. Who in his real senses would agree to have his mistress and wife living the same house..

Mother-in-law asked me to serve her , her own breakfast. Justin, who was still pouting about the entire thing, became extra careful. He made sure to stay after away from his mistress, Rebecca, he would not want his mother finding out about his illicit affairs with another woman, worse! She lives in the same house with the rest of the family and her lover.

After breakfast, I had to assist my mother-in-law in the room. She has different boxes of clothes, she would like to give to charity; I was always the one to help her, but this time around. I wanted an extra helping hand, Rebecca, my husband's mistress. If she should become his wife, she should start now by preparing to act some certain duties..

" Cynthia! Where's Mom?"

My husband wanted until Rebecca had left the room before entering. For someone who had always wanted to be with his mistress , why was he trying to avoid her and at all cost?

" She should be getting dressed for the charity"

I arranged the bags in the car. Then walked back to the house.

Just had become desperate that he followed me .

I could sense his heart panting so loudly, he was counting his steps and it was starting to annoy me.

We were close to his mother's bedroom, Rebecca and his mother were leaving and the terror of the truth being lacked to the open, he redirected his steps and left there like the carwod he is.

Rebecca saw him leaving, and immediately she runs after her lover.

My clueless mother-in-law did not suspect a single thing. Did she blindly trust her son, so much that she can't understand a simple logic?

"Cynthia, shall we go?"

She ignored the scene happening right before us; of her son having a heated argument with Rebecca. Even a fool would read meanings to such hostile behaviour between two people that are basically having an affair.

The event planner of the charity warmly welcomed my mother-in-law and myself. We were even given seats in the front, while the cloths were being taken down from the trunk of her car. Justin and his mistress should be coming over to the event, hopefully in the same car..

An hour later , he came to the event. He had driven but I could see that Rebecca wasn't with him.

" Hey! Where's your mistress?"

I had to stop him and demand some answers.

"My mistress? Shut up!" He teethed and gazed angrily at me.

" What! She's your mistress, don't act like I don't know what I am saying?". I pointed the truth out to me. Because , he might keep on pretending like he doesn't know who Rebecca is, when she's actually his mistress .

Unfortunately, our conversation was heard my his mother. The exact confrontation he did everything to hide from her .

" What did you just say? "

She retorted..

" A mistress, mother-in-law; your son has a mistress"

Justin stood there frozen; he was unable to speak. The shock got to him so dearly that I saw tear circling his eyes. Why have a mistress, if you don't want your mother to know?

Even before the event was to start; mother-in-law excused us from attending. She had to make up a believable lie. We came home and the same conversation resumed, but she was rather inquisitive to know more about her son's mistress.

" Who's she and what is her name?"

She had only arrived home, tensions were still raising when she turned back and asked her son. She could've Just asked me, Justin, however, was the right person to tell her the truth. After all, it was his mistress and he had fallen out of love for me.

" Mom, I can explain!"

He tries to sooth her anger, but the tension at that moment had already gotten out of hand

" No! I just want the truth!"

She raised her voice, and angrily demanded from her son.

I had doubts that my husband would want to tell his mother about his affair, and worse, that she was the same woman in the house with us.

"Mom! Her name is?"

He hesitated.

He used that as an opportunity to scan the entire house; checking to see whether Rebecca was at home or not .

It would seem like luck wasn't on his side; Rebecca matched into the house and she was instantly caught In the middle of all the drama. ..

"Wait! Don't tell me that she's the one?" Her eyes grew distant; finding it hard to believe..

"Y..... Yes"

Finally, my coward of a husband told the truth.

Mother-in-law's heart sank, she was extremely disappointed with her son. How could he have cheated on me, his wife. I've been loyal and also understanding to the core; why then did he have to cheat on me? That should have been what would be running through her mind. .

Justin wanted to clarify a truth that should have never been in the open. He opens his mouth, but words refuse to come out of it. I felt a great sense of relief, after all, we'd be getting our divorce and I will be finally free of this loveless marriage.

" Cynthia, please, take me to my bedroom"

Unable to look at her son, my mother-in-law left the living room heartbrokened, scattered by her son's affair. I almost feel bad for her; but sometimes, some truth needs to be known...

" I'm sorry about my son, Cynthia!"

I lay her on the bed and she quickly apologises on her son's behalf. .

" It's alright; everything will be fine". I said it like a chant; she nodded and after making sure that she was properly tucked in her bed, I turned off her lights and left.
