Chapter 16

Damon’s POV

It had been a long few week. Our meeting with Greg and Lewis didn’t go as smoothly as we anticipated. Greg was picking holes in everything. Me and Dad agreed to stay in Darkshade along with Alpha Lewis, we each took our own security.

We were placed in guest quarters in their Pack house manor. It wasn’t as big or impressive as ours but it was busy. Everyone was running around and it looked like Chaos but it did seem to be run quite well. Dads Beta stayed behind to run our pack, I was dads second in command, he said it was essential as I was to take over as Alpha.

All I wanted to do was get home and be with my mate, but Gregg was seriously on a mission to piss me off. He was arguing everything and I was under strict instruction to stay calm and respond with rational. This was proving a difficult task.

Myself and Lewis sat and drew up the land plans, we walked around the territory with Greg in tow marking out the potential new land lines. Rather than buy land from our pack they would need to buy it from the human government. This would benefit Greg as it would mean neither Silverwood or Star Rise would be able to dictate a minimum amount of land Darkshade could purchase as that would depend on the local human government.

It would also mean that the extensive amount of financial funds for the land would not benefit either of his opposing packs.

It took a long time but eventually we were able to come to an understanding, myself and Lewis even helped put a proposal in place to send off to the humans.

Greg had caused so many issues in what should have been a simple solution, there was no way myself or Lewis would leave before the forms and requests were all submitted. My dad and Greg had gone to bed one evening when myself and Lewis decided to have a night cap. We were putting the world to right and the more he drank the soppier he got. He wouldn’t stop talking about his Mate, Sierra, his Luna. We have met on multiple occasions and it’s clear to see why he is so infatuated by her. She has grace, beauty and she is a talented musician who often play’s piano for guests in their lands.

Soon conversation switched to me, and Lewis was probing about me settling down, taking over my destiny as Alpha of Silverwood and having kids. He was expecting his first in the near future which is another reason he want to be back with his mate but for me, I was still keeping my secret and moved the discussion over to the rumours that have been spread about me. “Don’t get me wrong, I have slept with a few women, but I don’t think 9 over 5 years makes me a womaniser”, I stated, “not to mention I have heard things like ruthless, heartless and cruel all mentioned in the same sentence as my name, I have never promised anyone anything, I only want to commit to my mate and I have being avoiding having to take a chosen mate because I believe in the moon goddess .”

Lewis laughed, “jeeez who did you piss off to get such a rep?” He patted me on the back and continued,”clearly you shrugged off the wrong girl and broke her heart, why else would anyone say that crap about literally the most underrated, considerate future Alpha!”

“I dated 1 girl, I was with her a few months and I was always honest and said I was still hoping to find my mate. When things became serious on her part and she told me that she was in love with me and wanted to be marked, I refused. She flipped out, caused a scene and then twisted lies to make me look bad. I learned my lesson and never dated anyone since, slept with a few but never dated. I mean I’m only 22, why should I settle and ignore my beliefs for a title. I let her get her anger out and didn’t clear up her lies, I figured if women thought I was bad then they might stop chasing me for my title!” I explained, “Of course I was wrong but I refused any other mention of dating.”

I laughed, said good night and went to bed. While Lewis sat reminiscing about the day he met his fated mate.

I would love to scream it from the rooftops but before now, it wasn’t safe.

In the car on our way home dad was talking about our upcoming party he had mum arranged, the danger was currently gone and we could relax. He had invites sent out to the full pack, it was more of an order than a request but it meant everyone had to attend, that where I hope to casually bump into my mate.

With a plan in place, a date set I was excited. As we pulled up to the pack house Manor I was laughing with dad about all the rumours about me. Now I finally had a mate I could be honest with him. Relieved he told me,” Damon, had I have known it was lies I wouldn’t have pushed so hard to set you up, I just figured you had scared all the other ladies away and in the moon goddesses name I want grandpa title” he laughed

As we got out of the car I pat him on the back and reassured him that his day would come. There was a strong gust of wind from across the garden and her scent shot up my nose like a drug I couldn’t get enough of.

I turned to see where it was coming from, nothing was around. Maybe it’s just the build up of my excitement!
