Seren’s POV

"When the Thread called, it sang in the bones instead of using words."

There was a river of whispers and ice leading to the Convergence.

I could sense them every night when the stars rose: dozens or even hundreds of wolves responding to an unidentified call. I was drawn forward by the Silver Thread, which buzzed beneath my skin like a heartbeat that wasn't mine.

Kairos, Vaughn, Rowan, and two scouts made up our tiny company. Silas followed, his silence weighing more than his words.

I had given up pretending to be able to sleep by the second night.

I didn't try to cover up the slight shimmer beneath my skin when Kairos discovered me awake beside the dwindling fire.

"You'll exhaust yourself," he said.

I gazed at the horizon, where a faint blue glow emanated from the frost. "I am unable to switch it off. It resembles weaving something."

His face half-shadowed, he knelt next to me. "Are you able to tell what?"

"Not just yet. However, it feels like a net.

His gaze grew gloomy.

  • FALLING FOR THE ALPHA'S SHADOW   Chapter Ninety

Seren’s POV“The moment I heard his voice inside the air, I knew I had pushed the Thread too far.”**My body jerked as if someone pulled a cord inside my spine. The world blurred into streaks of white and silver. Kairos held me close, but I felt like I was slipping through him. The Thread inside me pulsed, wild and sharp. It hurt. It burned. It clawed at my chest like it wanted out. Then his voice echoed again.Strong. Cold. Deep enough to shake the trees.“You cannot hide her from me.”The Ravager. He was not speaking from the forest anymore. He was speaking inside the Thread.Inside me.I gasped and grabbed Kairos’s cloak. “He is in my head.”Kairos’s arms tightened around me. “Seren. Look at me.”But I could not hold focus. The world tilted sideways. My heartbeat slammed against my ribs.Lily cried out, “Her eyes. Kairos, look at her eyes.”Kairos cupped my face. “Seren. Stay with me.”I tried.I truly tried. But the Thread pulled me toward a different voice. The Ravager’s voice.“

Kairos’s POV“If he is already here, then every second we stand still is a mistake.”The moment the words left my mouth, the forest shifted. Not with sound. Not with movement. With pressure. Heavy. Slow. Cold. Like something enormous was pushing against the world from the inside.Seren’s breath caught beside me.She grabbed my sleeve. “Kairos. Do you feel that?”“Yes.”The ground under our boots trembled. Not enough to shake snow loose, but enough that I could sense the wolves in the kernels stir and whine.Lily backed away. “This feels wrong.”Rowan drew his blade. “Where is he?”“Everywhere and nowhere,” Seren whispered. “He is not walking. He is reaching.”The Thread inside her glowed faintly. I hated how it pulled at her. I hated how it sensed him even from here. I moved in front of her without thinking.“Stay behind me.”She shook her head. “No.”“Seren.”“Kairos.”We stared at each other in the cold wind. Snow swirled around us like restless spirits. The forest pressed in tighte

Seren’s POV“If he thinks I will let him fight alone, he does not know me at all.”That was the first clear thought I had as soon as Kairos stepped out of the healer’s room. The door clicked shut behind him. Mira gave me a sharp look.“Do not move,” she warned. “You are barely holding steady.”“I am fine.”A lie.My hands were still trembling.“You are not fine,” Mira said. “Your pulse is weak, your thread is unstable, and your entire body feels cold. Do not pretend you can walk out of here like nothing is wrong.”“I can and I will.”She placed a firm hand on my shoulder. “Seren.”I exhaled sharply. “He is preparing to face the Alpha Ravager alone. You expect me to stay in this room while he does that?”“For once,” Mira muttered, “yes.”But the moment Kairos closed the door, the Thread inside me stretched again. It tugged toward him like a cord pulled tight. Mira’s face blurred for a second, and I grabbed the side of the cot to steady myself.Mira’s expression softened. “Seren… sit do

Kairos’s POV“If he knows where to find her, then he knows where to strike first.”That thought burned through my mind as I held Seren in the north tower. Her breathing was too shallow. The color had drained from her face. The Thread inside her flickered like a flame fighting to stay alive.I pulled her close. “You are safe. Stay with me.”Her fingers curled weakly into my cloak. “I did not let him touch me.”“I know.” I brushed her hair back gently. “You did well.”But inside, I felt the fear she was trying to hide.Fear that she was slipping.Fear that he was pulling stronger.Fear that the Thread was beginning to obey something older than her will.I lifted her into my arms. She tried to stand, but her knees buckled. “Do not fight me,” I whispered. “Let me carry you.”She rested her forehead against my shoulder. Her breath trembled against my neck.“Rowan,” I said without turning, “go ahead of us. Gather the healers. Warn Vaughn.”Rowan nodded and sprinted down the stairs. As I car

  • FALLING FOR THE ALPHA'S SHADOW   Chapter Eighty-Four

Seren’s POV“If the true Alpha Ravager is awake, then we are already late.”That was the first thought that tore through me as the shadow slipped back into the broken mirrors. The air in the Hall suddenly tasted metallic, like old blood and cold stone. Something old was shifting in the dark corners. Something that did not belong in the world of the living.Kairos leaned heavily on my shoulder. His breath was tight with pain, but his eyes were alert, sharp, watching every mirror edge with the focus of a wolf ready to tear apart anything that moved.I whispered, “We need to leave now.”He gave a slow nod. “Before this place decides to keep us.”The ground trembled under our feet, as if the Hall did not appreciate our intention. The light flickered. The mirrors hummed with a low vibration that crawled up my spine. The Thread inside me pulled hard, almost violently.Something wanted me to stay.Something wanted him to stay.“Kairos,” I whispered, gripping his arm tighter, “do not let go o

  • FALLING FOR THE ALPHA'S SHADOW   Chapter Eighty-Six

Seren’s POV“If I stay still, he will reach me faster.”That was the thought circling my mind as the house shook again from the wind outside. It was not a regular wind. It moved like breath. Like something alive. Something watching.Kairos stood close enough that our shoulders brushed. He kept scanning the corners of the room as if expecting the shadows to shift. Rowan had already pulled the curtains closed again, but that did nothing to calm the air inside.I whispered, “He is trying to find my exact location.”Kairos’s head snapped toward me. “How do you know?”“The Thread tightens every time he gets closer. Like a cord pulling at my spine.” I pressed a hand to my chest. “Right now it feels like a hand gripping my ribs.”Kairos cursed under his breath. “We are leaving. Now.”Rowan nodded. “I will get the scouts.”“No,” I said sharply. “Not through the outer paths. He marked the forest. If we follow the usual route, he will trap us between the ridges.”Lily stepped forward, voice tre
