CHAPTER EIGHT: SECOND PLACE

I had been too anxious and jumpy before and after getting jumped by Ophelia that I forgot to talk to Alpha Alexander about his overestimation of my bust and hip size. Every dress I had tried on was ill-fitting and unflattering when I looked at my already plain self in the mirror.

I had tried countless times to get to talk to my mate after dinner, but he had an important meeting with an ambassador of the Whitefang pack and he wasn't going to be opportuned until late in the night.

I had had breakfast by myself in my chambers earlier this morning but when I sought him out after, he was already getting whisked away by his Beta and officials, never even sparing a single glance at me. I only heard scratches of their conversations that involved dying crops and poisoned water in correspondence with the dead bodies that were being discovered in the backwoods end of West Crescent valley.

I didn't want to burden him with my unnecessary complaints but I didn't want to roam
