Chapter 26

Abby didn’t sleep much that night.

The room felt colder than usual, even with the heavy blanket pulled up to her chin. She lay still, her eyes fixed on the ceiling, the silence so loud it pressed against her ears. Everything that had happened earlier with Edward and Daniel kept playing in her head like a loop she couldn’t stop.

The way Edward had looked at Daniel. The way Daniel had said her name.

There was something in the air—like something was shifting between the three of them, even if no one dared to say it.

The morning came too fast.

Abby dragged herself out of bed, her body moving slow, heavy. She slipped into a hoodie and soft pants, not bothering with makeup or fixing her hair. She just needed coffee. Something warm. Something to keep her going.

Downstairs, the kitchen was already alive. Edward’s housekeeper was moving about, humming softly as she prepared breakfast. The smell of toast and eggs filled the space.

“Good morning, miss,” she greeted kindly.

  • FALLING For EDWARD   A Cry in the Rain

Chapter 39 The sky was crying. Heavy rain poured down on the windows, streaking the glass like falling tears. The thunder rolled in the distance, deep and slow, like a warning. Abby sat by the window in Edward’s study, her fingers curled around a warm mug of tea. She didn’t even drink from it. She just held it, letting the heat settle into her hands while her thoughts stayed cold. Edward wasn’t home. He’d left early, after a phone call he didn’t explain. She had asked if everything was alright, and he’d kissed her forehead and said he’d be back soon. That was eight hours ago. She had called his phone three times, but it went straight to voicemail. She didn’t want to panic, but her chest ached with that familiar weight. Something wasn’t right. She could feel it. And lately, that feeling had been showing up too often. A knock on the study door broke the silence. Emma peeked in. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun, her face soft without makeup. She looked less guarded than us

  • FALLING For EDWARD   Ivy’s Eyes

Chapter 38 Abby couldn’t move. The girl standing in front of her looked like a ghost from Edward’s past. A living memory. Her curly hair was soaked, her cheeks pink from the rain, but her eyes… those eyes looked just like Edward’s.The girl—Ivy—hugged herself and took a shaky breath.“I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t know where else to go.”Abby stepped aside without a word.Ivy walked in slowly. Careful. Like the floor might break under her feet.Abby shut the door and turned to face her. “How did you find me?”“I followed you,” Ivy said quietly. “From the diner. I saw you with Clarissa. I wanted to talk to you, but I got scared. So I waited.”Abby sat down on the couch. Ivy remained standing. She looked around the small guesthouse like she was searching for something familiar.“Do you… want some tea?” Abby asked, trying to keep her voice steady.Ivy shook her head. “I just want to know if he’s… kind.”Abby’s heart twisted. “Edward?”Ivy nodded.Abby stood slowly and walked toward he

  • FALLING For EDWARD   The Stranger in the Message

Chapter 37The text glowed on Abby’s screen, refusing to disappear even after she locked her phone.Hello, Abby. We need to talk. It’s about Edward’s daughter. She didn’t recognize the number. There was no name, no hint, no clue. Just that one line that made her feel like the walls around her heart were getting thinner by the second. She sat up, wiped her face, and read the message again. Then she replied.Who is this?No response. Not immediately. She stared at the screen until her eyes burned. Still nothing. Then, after almost five minutes, the next message came in.You don’t know me. But I know Edward. And I know the child he lost.Abby’s heart dropped. She stood up and started pacing. Rain still thrashed outside. Her hands were cold, but her chest was hot. Like panic was curling itself into a tight ball behind her ribs. She typed again. Are you saying you know where she is?Another pause. Then:I think she’s closer than he thinks. And I think you’re the one who needs to tell him.

  • FALLING For EDWARD   The Room She Locked

Chapter 36The rain had started again. Soft at first. Like a whisper. Then harder, like it was trying to drown out the silence that had settled between them.Abby sat by the window in the guesthouse, watching the droplets chase each other down the glass. Her fingers traced the edge of her mug. Warm tea. Still untouched. Her chest felt heavy. Like something was changing again. She hadn’t seen Edward since last night. Not really. They’d slept in the same bed, but his back was turned. And hers was too. That morning, he’d kissed her forehead gently before leaving for work. But something about the way his lips touched her skin felt… off. Distant. Her thoughts were still tangled in Elena’s name. The woman from the portrait. The woman who disappeared. She didn’t want to be jealous. But she couldn’t ignore how much Elena’s ghost still lived inside the house. How Edward didn’t say her name until last night. And how when he did, his voice broke a little.Abby stood and walked toward the mirror.

  • FALLING For EDWARD   The Secret She Took

Chapter 35 The night air wrapped around Abby’s skin as she stepped out into the garden. The lanterns overhead swayed with the breeze, casting a soft golden glow that flickered like whispers in the dark. Her heart hadn’t stopped racing since Edward told her about Elena. Not everything.Just her name.Just that she was gone.Dead.And that she meant something to him.But not what she meant. Or why she still haunted the corners of this house.Abby walked slowly between the roses, her fingers brushing the petals. The silence around her wasn’t peaceful tonight. It was thick. Like it was holding something back. Her thoughts were louder than anything else.Edward had been quiet after dinner. Tense. His jaw tight. His eyes distant. She’d seen that look before—when he was holding something in. When he didn’t trust the truth to come out clean. She didn’t push him. Not yet.But it burned her from the inside. She turned back toward the house, the windows glowing warm behind the curtains. The stu

  • FALLING For EDWARD   Shadows of Elena

Chapter 34 The candle on Abby’s bedside table flickered low, casting long shadows across the walls. The rain had stopped, but the night felt heavier than usual. The silence in the house was not peaceful—it was watching her.She sat up in bed, her knees tucked to her chest, the sheets tangled around her. She hadn’t been able to sleep. Not really. Her eyes kept drifting to the window, and her thoughts wouldn’t quiet down. Something wasn’t right. She could feel it deep in her bones.Edward had fallen asleep beside her earlier. But now the bed was cold where he had been. She glanced at the space he left. Still indented. Still warm. But he wasn’t there. She wrapped the blanket around her and stepped out of the room barefoot, padding softly down the hallway. The wooden floor creaked under her toes. The house felt alive again. Like something was moving through it.She passed the portrait in the hallway—the one she had never really looked at before. It was of a woman in a red dress, her dark
