CHAPTER 10: GOING BACK TO HIM

My heart thumped wildly in my chest as the doctors and nurses screamed above my head, their voices doing nothing but adding to the tremor in my bones as I watched them struggle to fix what was wrong with Tessa.

The heart monitor beeped wildly, like a ticking bomb, and a loud cry pierced into my eardrums.

It was me. I was the one screaming as I watched the life leave Tessa's body after each beat of the machine. Dante pulled me to his body, his scent enveloping me as he muttered soft words to me, his own hands shaking as they patted my head.

He was also scared. We both were. My little girl, our little girl, was dying, and we could do nothing but watch.

"What is going on, Isla?" Dante pulled me closer, his hand lifting my head to face him. "What's happening, baby?" He inquired, the worry in his eyes increasing as he cleaned off my tears.

I tried to speak, but I couldn't, as the doctors around us shot orders at each other.

"We need to undergo an emergency procedure right now!"

"No!" I
