Amara woke up slowly. I knew before she opened her eyes. I had been awake for hours. Seated across the room, a scroll rested between my fingers, a report from the Northern Packs. Disputes were rising again — nothing alarming… yet.

But I had learned long ago that peace only lasted as long as vigilance.

I felt her gaze before she spoke. She watched me quietly from the bed. Without lifting my eyes from the document, I said,

“We have a council meeting to attend after breakfast.”
