Fortune Shine for Becky

It was a bright Monday morning. All students gathered in the hall for their results.  Becky with her friends waiting for her name to announce. She was anxious about her grades. Her legs were trembling while her friends comforting her continuously.

"Relax Becky, you are a bright student of our college. I am sure, this time you will nail it". 

"I hope Zina. I need to get a good score. My exams went great. My future solely depends on this result". Becky reply anxiously. 

" I have heard that there is a list of top 20 special students of our college, who will get the opportunity to get an internship in Fortune 5 business companies. The names of Fortune 5 business companies are written in chits which are in a glass bowl. One by one Dean will take their names and then they have to pick one chit from the bowl. It's your luck in which company they will send you for your internship". Colt shared the details.

" Omg that sounds so awesome. Now I am getting anxiety attacks too". Zina holds her heart.

Becky closed her eyes and pray in her heart for the golden chance in Fortune 5 companies. 

As the ceremony started, one by one names were taken and the student gets their opportunity to pick the chit from the glass bowl. Becky, Zina, and Colt anxiously wait for their names but each time Dean said a different name which shattered their dreams to earn the best opportunity in their life. 

Becky feels so disappointed with each moment and convinced herself that her dream to work with good companies will remain a dream. All the names were already announced and now the two names left, which she was sure, that not her. She has no hopes left. Becky was about to move from her chair when her name was announced by the Dean. 

"Ms. Becky Bolt". Dean took her name from the list. 

Becky ignores the announcement. She sulks in her disappointing thoughts and failures in the human world. The Dean again took her name. "Ms. Becky Bolt, Are you there? Plz, come to the stage for your credits and opportunity to work in Fortune 5 company.

Zina jerked Becky who was in another sea of thoughts. " Hey Beck Go, they are calling your name. Come on. You have made it". 

Becky looked at Zina in confusion and then to the stage, where Dean took her name last time.

“I think she is not attending. So we should proceed towards our last name”. He switches the result card with the last one.

. She quickly stands and waves.

“No Sir. I am coming. Sorry”

She quickly ran towards the stage by crushing and trembling between the student's rows. People laughed at her insanity. She reached and excitedly took her result card from Dean.

"Congratulations Becky Bolt. You are the bright star of our college. Being an "Outstanding Student of our college, we are allowing you to select the company for your internship from the glass bowl". 

“Thank you, Sir, It’s an honor for me”. She replies with grace.

Becky moves towards the bowl and with shivering hands, she took out her chit from the bowl. She opened the chit with a pounding heart and read the name. 

" Marcus & CO" She read the name loudly in the mic.

The hall echoed with great applause. The student gets jealous because their most wanted company is slipped from their hands.

“She is so lucky. Marcus is so hot”. Zina happily hugged Colt.

“Do you know Marcus?” Colt asked her while seeing her excitement.

“Of course Dumbo. He is a multi-millionaire in the business industry. All companies want a joint venture with him but he is arrogant and ruthless. But I think that’s what makes him most eligible hottie of our country”. Zina shared the details.

“That’s the excellent company you have selected Ms. Bolt.  I wish you all the best Ms. Becky". Dean congratulates Becky with a smile.

“Thank you, Sir, I will try my best". Becky reply by shaking hand with her Dean. She went towards her seat where Zina and Colt gave her a tight hug. 

“Congratulations BK, You are a genius. I told you, you will nail it this time”. Zina excitedly hugs her.

“Now it’s time for a grand celebration". Colt happily added.

" Of course, party for internship and party of our graduation. We are adults now". Zina added.

“Silence Please” Dean speaks on the mic.

Becky was relieved that finally, some bright star shines for her luck. 

Now it's time for the last name of the brilliant student who gets the opportunity to shine in the professional world. He checked the result card and become confused. He asked the teacher to confirm and looked surprised at his confirmation. The teacher whispered in his ear which he nodded his head and took his mic again.

“The next name is Ms. Zina Gill”. Dean announced.

Zina was shocked to hear her name. She looked at the Dean with surprise because it was unexpected. She looked at her friends who were pushing her to move towards the stage. She waits for the Dean to take her name again. It was surprising for Colt and Becky too because Zina has missed one paper and also she is an average student of their class. But miracles do happen. All students looked at Zina in shock.

“Ms. Zina Gill. Please come on stage” Dean announced by looking at the hall to find her.

She immediately went to the stage to receive her result card and after that pick the last chit from the glass bowl. She doubt may be Dean mistakenly took her name but her doubts were cleared when he handles her result card and gave her a chance to select the last chit from the bowl.  She looked at the chit with popping eyes, it was "Zina & William Constructions" which was owned by her family.  Zina was not much surprised by the name. After a couple of weeks, she feels strange vibes from her parents who suddenly took interest in her college whereabouts and her final result.  It seems they have intentionally added the name to the list. She now understands the desperation of her family. Zina feels awful as it seems her parents bribe the college administration as she has left one paper and her marks were not as good as it was recorded.  

“Congratulations Zina. Keep it up” Dean fakely smile but his expressions were odd. She took her steps with embarrassment and after getting her scorecard from the Dean.

“Thank you, Sir”. She tried to hide her tears.

 She quickly ran out of the hall. Colt and Becky follow Zina out of the hall. They have an idea about Zina's reaction towards it. Her parents always boost their wealth and took unnecessary advantage of their status which irritates Zina and she finds reasons to avoid them. Zina never wanted to work in her family business, but this was an embarrassing surprise for her.
