38****Kevin's POV****Natalie was beaming with smiles, alongside my mom at a corner in my room. In three days, I will be getting married to the only woman who had been able to capture my heart. For the past years, I never retained any woman I slept with, but Natalie was different. 39****Natalie's POV****Avoiding Maurice since the event at the beach was successful until today. It was the eve of my wedding and despite badly wanting to avoid the office, I needed to clear an important document on my desk. The building the Fidell's had offered us were sparsely furnished with smart technology like theirs, bigger and better than the former company. As I worked on my document briskly, I heard the low level staffs discussing in low tunes. “This office is way bigger than the one we earlier worked from! 40****Kevin's POV****Maurice stood looking at me, his eyes bright with fury. I saw him tight his fist and loosen it. “Let's get this damn meeting done!" He said, heading towards where I sat. “Of course we should, loser!"“Sit!" I ordered. 41****Natalie's POV****The eerie sound kept ringing in my ears. ‘What just happened?' It took me a few minutes to realize Maurice who I thought had rode safely out of Kevin's abode was lying unconsciously in front of us, in the pool of his own blood. Everyone stood transfixed as I staggered to Maurice. Slowly, I began to whimper before my tears began to flow freely down my cheeks. “Mau... 42****Natalie's POV****The V.I.P ward of the The Oaks Medical Center was greatly sparse, neatly arranged and painted in white. While I walked to Maurice's bed, I found out that four other patients were present in the room. With two patients, placed on an oxygen machine and another on the farthest end who convulsed rigorously causing the people around her to panic and call for the doctor. Two nurses clad in blue scrubs came in first, a female and a male. The male made to check the equipment connected to the female patient, before the doctor arrived to find out what was amiss. I diverted my attention, glancing at the reason I had walked into the room in the first place. Maurice laid still without his glasses on. 44****Natalie's POV****On my way to the hospital, I had decided to get beverages for Maurice, alongside a bouquet of flowers as Maurice had always done. Inhaling the flowers when I got close to the VIP ward of the hospital, I was reminded of Maurice's predicament and current state of health. The sweet scent of the peonies were not enough to assuage the guilt I felt or my pity towards Maurice. I had said a short prayer with Mrs. MayFair, the favor I requested from her, and I strongly believed that even before I got to the hospital Maurice would regain his consciousness atleast. 45****Maurice's POV****The pain at the sides of my stomach never ceased, it seemed to have increased this morning and despite the urge surging within me, I didn't heed to groaning. I feigned weak smiles as my mother stood very close to the door of the ward. I hated to see her cry. Writhing in pain and moaning in low tunes, I gave in to tightening my fist as two nurses clad in blue advanced towards me. “Your surgery will be taking place in an hour, mister!" The taller nurse said. “We will be conducting some laboratory tests, and physical examination to prep you for your surgery" she added, waiting to get my approval before she gets to business. “Sure!" I affirmed. A test was ran on my abdomen, followed by a general test and I was administered a pain relief, transfused directly through my veins. In few minutes, the pain lessened. The other nurse helped her in lifting me up carefully from my bed to the critical care stretcher. When we moved out, my mother's weeping increased. Jane
