Heartbroken

Maurice's POV

I sat at the hospital, looking into my dad's sunken eyes. In just three weeks, he looked weak and frail. A day before, the test result showed that his sickness had advanced to stage four acute leukemia.

My mom sat at my side whimpering and even while I tried to pacify her, I knew that my father's recovery would be a miracle. He coughed thick clots of blood now and his breathing was unstable. He literally struggled to survive. While I peered painfully at his face, I recalled our memories together and how bad his shoe making business has fallen.

I felt bad remembering how embarrassed I imagined myself to be, if I had gathered the courage to ask Natalie for the huge amount of money requested at the hospital. I never thought it was a wise idea doing that, I wanted to sort out the bills myself, but no matter how hard I tried, the funds were never enough.
