The sunlight streamed in through the windows and left a hot trail across Alex's face. She squinted her eyes against the sun and pulled back. Jack sat with his back to a wall with her leaning against him. His arms felt warm and protective around her. She could lay here all day if it weren't for her grumbling stomach. Lexi lay with her head on a bunched up sweatshirt in Jack's lap.

Alex smiled. She loved to see their happy family together like this. Jack's words of the previous night sunk in. He wanted her to try to work it out with Tom. Maybe he didn't feel the same way. Maybe being here with them, constantly rescuing them, was annoying. She looked at his sleeping face.

She shook her head. She didn't believe it for a second. Nice try Jackrabbit, but this girl was totally on to him. He was playing the gallant hero again. She would play along. She would make an attempt to be with Tom. As much as she missed him and the feelings she used to have, she didn't feel that way anymore. She knew

    The rumbling throughout the Sanctuary stilled as the battle above drew silent. Tom turned to Jimmy. Jimmy nodded and the team climbed to the Surface.After the light, the tunnel, and the door, they emptied out onto the street. Their men looked tired but had smiles on their faces.
