Ruby’s POV

The city wouldn’t shut up about it.

The continuous sounds of sirens, helicopters and reporters yelling names they barely understood had become imbibed in her sleep and dreams. Everybody who knew the names suddenly wanted to yell it more and those who had been living under a rock about it only grew more curious by the day.

She guessed there was no one that could genuinely ignore all the noise of an empire collapsing in real-time. The air outside smelled like smoke and victory and something else that Ruby didn’t want to name.

Her dad had been taken into custody, after he had managed to pass all his assets to her. She had argued that she didn’t want any of it after reading what the tabloids and almost every article she could find, but she knew deep down that she wasn’t that clean in all of this either and he was only trying to protect her future.

It was as stressful a moment as could be, the shareholders calling Kelvin and herself asking them to take responsibility for somethi

  • FOR HER SAKE   Chapter 154

Amelia’s POVAmelia stood in front of the mirror, smoothing her dress for the fifth time. It was nothing extravagant, soft ivory, off-shoulder, with lace that looked like it had stories to tell. Ruby had insisted on doing her makeup. Leona had insisted on redoing it when Ruby made her eyeliner uneven. Now, both of them hovered nearby like overprotective satellites.Ruby adjusted the hem. “You’re shaking.”“I’m not.”Leona raised a brow. “You’re vibrating.”Amelia rolled her eyes, even as her smile betrayed her. “It’s just… it’s been a while since something this good didn’t come with gunfire.”Ruby smirked. “Don’t jinx it.”Leona handed her the bouquet, white roses, baby’s breath, and one stubborn red tulip that Ruby had insisted on “for rebellion.” Amelia looked down at it, laughing softly.“Where’s Kelvin?” she asked.Ruby shrugged. “Pacing. Practicing his vows. Probably thinking about security drills.”Leona grinned. “Man’s marrying a CEO, he should be nervous.”Amelia laughed, shak

  • FOR HER SAKE   Chapter 153

Ruby’s POV (Epilogue 3)The first thing Ruby noticed when she woke up was the loud quiet that surrounded her.It was not the kind that came before danger, that sharp, breath-held kind she’d learned to survive, but the gentle quiet that came after everything had already been fought for. The kind that felt like exhaling. The baby stirred beside her, tiny sounds bubbling up between soft breaths. A stretch, a small fist, the faintest whimper. Ruby smiled into her pillow, still half-asleep, half-dreaming. For once, there was no rush to get up. No alarms she had to get up to. No phone vibrating with bad news. After the months of having to deal with that, she was only glad it was over although it still traumatised her a little bit. She had had a visit last week with Mateo and she had gone with her baby, Lily and Amelia who just simply loved holding her godchild. Plus the guys were busy with an issue she didn’t want to bother herself with knowing about. Ricardo had tried to convince her coun

Leona’s POV (Epilogue 2)The first thing Leona noticed was that the apartment was too quiet. No alarms, no encrypted calls, no gunfire echoing faintly through her memory. Just the low hum of the city outside, the lazy rhythm of life she’d almost forgotten existed. She sat cross-legged on the couch, hair pulled into a messy bun, surrounded by half-assembled hardware and a laptop that hadn’t stopped blinking since last night. Even now, she couldn’t help tinkering, an old habit, one Gabriel found endlessly amusing and mildly infuriating. The smell of coffee drifted from the kitchen.“Leona,” Gabriel called, voice rough with sleep. “It’s Sunday. You’re not allowed to code on Sundays.”She smirked without looking up. “You made that rule. I didn’t agree to it.”“You nodded.”“I was drinking wine.”“Same thing.”She rolled her eyes, fingers flying across the keyboard. “You can’t keep treating weekends like religious experiences, Gabriel. Some of us actually enjoy working.”He appeared in the

Amelia’s POV (Epilogue 1)365 Days LaterThe city had learned to breathe again. It wasn’t quieter, no city ever really was, but it was softer now, slower somehow, like it had been forced to remember that silence existed between all the noise. Amelia stood outside the narrow glass building tucked between a flower shop and a laundromat, squinting at the modest sign over the door:“Rook Security & Consulting.”The font was simple, understated. The kind of name that blended in. Which, knowing Kelvin, was entirely the point. She smiled faintly and stepped inside. The bell over the door jingled softly, announcing her like a secret. The place smelled like coffee, leather, and a hint of paint. It was nothing like Vasquez’s empire, no marble floors, no cold glass walls, no sterile perfection. Just warmth, and space, and quiet. There were only two desks. One had paperwork stacked neatly in a corner. The other was an organized chaos of open files, blueprints, and an old framed photograph of a do

  • FOR HER SAKE   Chapter 150

Leona’s POVThe hum of the monitors was the only sound in the room.Rows of cables trailed like veins across the floor, connecting half-built towers of equipment to the server racks that blinked weakly in the dark. The office smelled of metal, dust, and too many sleepless nights.Leona sat cross-legged on the floor, hoodie halfway off one shoulder, hair tied up in a messy knot that had given up halfway through the night. Her eyes were dry from staring at code for too long, her fingers tapping at the keyboard with the rhythm of someone too stubborn to stop.Behind her, Gabriel yawned. Loudly. She was also hungry, but if she admitted that, he’d either drag her away from where she sat or leave her to grab some takeout and she didn’t want to agree that his presence was basically what kept her there so long. She wouldn’t be seated here in a dark bleak room if his presence wasn’t so damn comforting.“Do you have to do that?” she asked without looking up.He was sprawled across her couch li
