CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN
Jina woke up early the next morning relaxed and cheerful. She's full of energy and enthusiasm. She wears her comfortable slippers and trots to the window to draw the curtains. It was dawn. She peers into space in thought and then said,
"Jina, you acted foolish last night. What were you thinking? You shouldn't have pushed Richard away. There are many ways to kill a rat. You must act wisely this time; Show affection to Esther, because it pleases everyone. She smirked and walked across the room as if looking for something and then suddenly went to the table near the closet. She reached for her phone and flicked on it with her finger and dialled someone's number.
"Hello, Tony, Jina speaking."
"Yes, ma." the person on the receiver responded.

The reconciliation between Esther and Jina mesmerised Mellisa. There was confusion in the recesses of her mind. It seemed strange to her. "What has made mom change so suddenly? This is inconceivable!" She reckoned in her mind. They were both full of sentiments but Jina managed to soothe him." I forgive you, honey. If anything, I should be the one begging for forgiveness. I caused everything, yes I did." She said to pacify him and then wiped his tears with her hand. Richard raised his face and looked at his wife. He held her face between his hands and kissed her and then leaned over her shoulder. In a moment he caught sight of a gold shining necklace which lay on the floor close to the window. It appeared to be Julie's. She might have dropped it while they were caressing last night. Richard's heart thumped with violence and almost ripped out of his chest."Richard, you are doomed. This is the end of the road for you. That necklace is an exhibit of your crime. Jina's equitable behaviour towards Esther mesmerized everyone. She was no longer haughty towards her. At dinner, she pledged that henceforth she would sit beside her and be the one to serve her food. Richard furrowed his eyebrows questioningly. "How weird! Is she genuine or is there something hidden in her character?" He wondered, his eyes grumbling for the truth. It was incredibly beyond his belief and understanding that she would change profoundly in an instance. She seemed true and sincere. Richard gazed at his wife with awe. This is what he yearned for; to treat everyone without prejudice and with deserving respect. He cherished her more. In this charade, where everyone sees Jina as a saint due to her presumed transformation, Esther will have to count the costs of Jina's disparaging character which she will have to disguise by crawling under the shell of innocence. Henceforth she must try to be wary and keep her game clean for her to be able to achieve the desired results.As she sat on the stool near the dishwasher, she conceitedly feels she had done a great deal of work so far which is purposed to Esther's detriment. She is anxious to call Tony, her goon whom she deems set fair to do a perfect job and whose collaboration is vital in this undertaking. Jina and Richard came down the stairs a moment later. One can easily tell that they are a happy couple by the way they eye each other and treat each other with much affection. Richard looked around the living room. There was hardly anyone visible. "Where are these girls?" He wondered. Jina, noticing that he was suddenly quiet stood in front of him, her eyes seeking his attention. "Hey, what is it, dear?" She said tapping her on the shoulder and then squeezing his hand. He switches his gaze to the beauty in front of him gazing at it with charm giving every appearance of being attracted to her. After gazing at her, he flashes an appreciative smile, his lean handsome face glowing, his curved pointed nose almost touching her face. He put his arm around her waist and drew her closer in an audacious manner beguiled by her beauty. Jina looked at him attentively, rolling her eyes. "I feel like kissing you, honey."

Despite the burning desire and anxiety to witness the entailments of the anticipated day, Esther was cynical to the whole idea. She had accepted to attend the party because she was cracking under pressure and ended up creamed by everyone's persuasion. Her mind was now crammed with questions; "What will I put on? I have absolutely nothing. The guests will all crane their necks to glance at me because I will be looking odd and weird like a fish out of water. I won't stand their unforgiving eyes. I am up the creek. I shouldn't have accepted. Damn the humiliation." She thought and was agitated. Partially, she was right. She barely had any better outfit to put on, not to mention going to the party. The only attire she thought reasonable was her floral long faded dress with a ribbon around the waist which had started fraying. This, her mother had sewn with her hands. As a responsible employee, Esther breaks off from the party striding with gaiety to unlock the gate. With the way she strenuously tugs it to open we gather that it is not an easy task for her considering her age and strength. She eventually succeeded and then stood aloof to let the car pass through and then fastened it. Jina bestows a furtive glance at her through the glass as Richard pulls on the brakes outside the garage and comes out rushing across the other side to open for his comely wife."Thanks, honey," Jina appreciated him with an alluring smile as she batted her eyes."Anytime, honey." It was a blessed beautiful new dawn that slowly transformed into a bright morning. The long-anticipated day had finally presented itself with a clear blue sky. Nevertheless, it would be a fat lie if Esther claimed that she'd any interest in seeing it despite all its splendidness; the glimmer of the beaming rays of the sunrise that streamed through her window, the calm breeze that blew inside her room, the fragrant smell of roses which Jina had gathered outside the garden before the cock crow; these, she had deftly woven into garlands that she hung in the living room and they seemed to transmit their pleasant scent to the whole mansion. All these seemed to draw Esther into much distress. It's been hours since she woke up. To say the least, she hardly winked the whole night. As everyone was too expectant to embrace the pleasures of Britton's birthday, she spent the entire night trying on the awkward outfit that Jina had bought her.
