Chapter 1

Alexander didn't call back until four hours later.

His ringtone was a song sung by Evelyn in her clear voice—a sweet tone that cut like a knife.

He used just to use the default ringtone. I had once suggested he change it to a piano piece I loved.

He smiled and refused, saying he had no habit of appreciating music.

Listening to the ringtone, I suddenly felt like laughing. How many personalities did Alexander have, to treat us with such completely different attitudes?

The call dropped, and he dialed again. I still didn't answer. Alexander sent a message.

[Darling, where are you? It's dark and I'm very worried about you. We'll come pick you up right now.]

Alexander's worried message came through, as if he were deeply anxious.

Just then, a wolf's howl sounded from outside the car—the satisfied sound of a werewolf after feeding on blood.

The driver shuddered with fear.

"Ma'am, that wolf just killed someone nearby two days ago. It seems like it's struck again tonight. The whole district is on edge."

"That rogue werewolf kills indiscriminately. Hardly anyone dares to go out at night now. That's why I was truly shocked to see you around here."

Panic surged through my heart. I was about to reply to Alexander when my fingers froze above the screen.

[Evelyn is a little scared. I'll take her back to the hotel first. Send me your location, and I'll come pick you up a bit later.]

The panic in my heart turned into steel needles, stabbing so painfully I could barely breathe.

Seeing the tears welling up in my eyes, the driver became flustered.

"Don't cry, don't cry, my dear. I must have frightened you. I'll stop talking."

I took a deep breath and suddenly felt completely calm down.

"Thank you. I've figured some things out."

Not long after, Alexander sent another message.

[Why aren't you replying? Have you already fallen asleep?]

[Evelyn has caught a chill and keeps sneezing. I'm going to buy her medicine. You must take care of yourself too—don't get sick.]

[Otherwise, I'll worry about you.]

A wave of helplessness washed over my entire body. I put down my phone and fell asleep in the car.

Back at the pack territory, the driver woke me. I walked into the courtyard where Alexander and I had lived together for ten years.

We had formed our Fated Mate Bond on the sacred altar at the center. When I became his Luna, he pressed his forehead to mine and knelt before me, vowing,

"May the Moon Goddess bear witness—my heart belongs forever to my Luna."

Walking into our small courtyard, it was filled with the white roses I loved, but I noticed moonroot freshly planted in the corner.

It was specially grown for Evelyn to take care of her health.

In the past, only I had this special fondness for it, and now Evelyn has it too.

A bitter feeling welled up in my heart.

I opened my computer to check flight info when Professor Smith called,

“You accepted? This is truly wonderful news from heaven.”

Her sounded excited and very enthusiastic.

"Didn't you say your mate is extremely clingy and can't bear to be away from you for even a few minutes?"

My throat tightened. Just as I opened my mouth to reply—

The computer popped up with Evelyn's social media account. It was a newly posted photo of her and Alexander.

The two of them gazing at each other, smiling sweetly.

The caption read: [Alex never ruins the fun~]

I suppressed the bitterness in my heart and replied softly,

"I'm certain."

Alexander, in seven days, we will never see each other again.

A month later, Evelyn was standing at the research center gates, too."What the hell did you say to him?!"Her voice was shrill with a rare, frantic anger. "He drove me out of the pack! You already don't want him anymore—why can't you just let me have him?!" By the end, she was sobbing. "I really do love him."And what did any of this have to do with me?"You brought this on yourself. It's got nothing to do with me.""No!" Evelyn's reaction was lightning-fast. She sniffled, half-commanding, half-pleading. "You contact him. Tell him to take me back. He listens to you so much—he'd definitely agree."Hearing this absurd demand, I actually laughed out loud. "And why would I do that?""Can't you just do this for me, please? Whatever you want me to do, I'll do it. Just let us be together."I sighed. "He doesn't like you at all.""Liar! He clearly never pushed me away! We traveled together, took photos together, watched the Northern Lights together—" Evelyn shouted back, frantically lis

  • Fading Love for Someone   Chapter 8

(Diana's POV)The snowstorms in Northern Europe were even fiercer. The moment I arrived, I threw myself into the research work, often so busy I lost track of time. That day, I finished an experiment and stretched out my body. Only then did I notice it was already three in the afternoon. I hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch. Just as I was about to go grab some food, a familiar figure caught the corner of my eye. Mated for so many years—I knew his scent better than anything.Alexander stood at the entrance of the Northern European Medical Research Center. He'd pulled every string he could, finally tracked down where I'd gone. Booked a flight overnight, sat on a plane for over ten hours, and came to this snow-covered country. The research center sat at the edge of the city, its white buildings blending almost seamlessly into the snow. Alexander stood at the door and pressed the buzzer. He waited a long time before the door opened.A female werewolf in a white lab coat stood in the doo

  • Fading Love for Someone   Chapter 7

I shut myself in the courtyard. For three whole days, I didn't step outside. No food, no water, no seeing anyone. I just sat in Diana's study, looking at the books she'd left, her notes, her photos. Going through them over and over.On the fourth day, Evelyn came back.Isn't she supposed to be able to walk in a month? She didn't bother to call ahead. Just pushed the door open and walked in. When she saw the state I was in, she froze for a second, then her eyes went red, "Alexander, how did you let yourself get like this?"I didn't look at her. "Why are you here?""I was worried about you." Evelyn walked up and crouched in front of me, tilting her head up to look at my face. "sis is gone. You're here all alone. I couldn't bear it."I looked down at her face, and a strange feeling stirred in my chest. That face—I'd seen it countless times. Gentle, innocent, pitiful, always carrying that heartbreaking fragility. But right now, it looked... foreign."Evelyn, tell me the truth.""About

The white roses in the courtyard were gone. Every single one.Diana had planted them with her own hands the year we became mates. She'd always treasured them. All of them had been replaced with moonroot. The freshly planted moonroot was withered and yellow, wilting crookedly into the ground.I rubbed my temples and pushed open the door. The bed was made, the quilt folded neatly—like no one had ever slept there. The wardrobe door was ajar, all of Diana's clothes were gone. I stood there, my brain shorting out into blank static."Diana?" I called. My voice echoed through the hollow, empty house. No one answered.I strode into the bathroom. Only my toothbrush and cup sat on the counter. All of Diana's bottles and jars is gone. Rushed to the living room. The book she'd been reading on the coffee table is gone. In the kitchen, her favorite mug is gone. The unease in my gut had solidified into bone-deep dread.I grabbed my phone and dialed Diana's number.[The number you have dialed is

  • Fading Love for Someone   Chapter 5

(Alexander's POV)I took Evelyn out traveling again, just to clear our heads. A few days had passed—surely Diana had come to her senses by now. She couldn't keep being so petty, suspecting something between me and Evelyn. Every time before, she'd be the first to back down, seriously reflecting on her mistakes. Give Diana a few days, and she'd come around.I never expected to get a call from Emily.Emily actually said I'd betrayed our bond—that I was cheating with Evelyn. Diana hadn't done a lick of self-reflection; instead, she'd been pointing fingers at me to her friend. Dragging Evelyn's name through the mud. I watched the tears roll down Evelyn's face, and fury roared through me."Enough!"I snarled, and the endless stream of curses on the other end finally stopped. I didn't get why Diana had to blow this tiny thing so far out of proportion. Evelyn's body was fragile—she needed looking after. What the hell was wrong with that?Evelyn looked up at me, her eyes swimming with hur

  • Fading Love for Someone   Chapter 4

She froze on the spot, her expression twisting with humiliation—like she’d never expected me to rip the mask off and go straight for the throat.Alexander shot to his feet, staring at me in utter disbelief.“How can you misunderstand Evelyn like that? She’s a kind girl! She just wants someone to talk to, and all of you look down on her.”Tears slid down Evelyn’s face. She sank her teeth into her bottom lip, playing the perfect wounded dove, and collapsed against Alexander’s chest, sobbing her heart out.Alexander looked at me, disappointment flooding his eyes.“Diana, you’re the only one in my heart. How could you think that?”Evelyn raised her head. There was pure venom in her eyes, but her voice came out whiny and soft, dripping with hurt.“I’ll go. Diana hates me—I’ll just go.”She turned to leave, swaying on her feet like she was shattered to her core. Alexander’s gaze followed her, full of aching tenderness,“Diana, you can’t do this.”For over a year, Evelyn had started by dropp
