Cole

I looked at my father. “Why?”

His hand stayed on the door handle. “That wasn’t a suggestion.”

“I noticed.”

“Then we’re done.”

“No, we’re not.”

He turned back toward me.

“You came in here, figured out exactly who I was researching without me giving you a name, and now you expect me to walk away because you said so?”

“Yes.”

“That’s not happening.”

His expression hardened, and mine probably did too.

“You’re nineteen,” he said. “You do not need access to every piece of Grayson history simply b

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 99: Marriage Alliance

Cole's POV“Conrad Mason wants you to marry his daughter.”I stopped in the doorway of Dad's study. He had called me downstairs shortly after speaking with Julian Vale, and I'd expected an update about their meeting tomorrow. Instead, he was telling me another man wanted to choose my wife.“Please tell me you refused.”“I told Conrad that your marriage isn't mine to arrange.” Dad put his phone aside. “He offered to support you against Brennan, Rusk, and Fenwick, but he wants an alliance between our families.”“Then he can forget it. I'm with Vanessa.”“I know, Cole. But Conrad has influence over several families Brennan is trying to win over. His support would make a difference.”I pulled out a chair, too irritated to sit comfortably. I remembered Odette Mason from the summers our families spent together. She'd followed me around the estate, insisting on joining my games even when I wanted to be left alone. We'd been friends, but I'd never given her reason to expect anything more.“Do

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 98: The Condition

Lillian's POV“Alistair Voss.”I leaned closer to Arden's computer, hoping I'd misheard her. “Are you sure that's his name?"Arden pointed to the entry on the screen. “He's listed as the receiving officer for the transferred reference. That doesn't establish whether he handled Julian's objection personally or made any decision about your registration.”Helen pulled her chair closer. “Alistair was involved in Lillian's childhood. We already know he had access to information about her that he shouldn't have had.”“And now his name is connected to Dad's objection?” I asked. “How many times is that man going to turn up in my life?”Alistair had already caused enough trouble, and the fact that he'd escaped confinement made seeing his name again even worse. I was tired of discovering how much of my childhood had passed through the hands of people I couldn't trust.“Can you tell us when the reference reached him?” I asked.“The receipt date falls between the council's acknowledgement of Juli

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 97: A Name Missing From the Register

LILLIAN’S POV “Four registration references, and not one of them has a name?” I stared at the document Arden had placed on her desk. Helen leaned closer, adjusting her glasses to examine the numbers. “The names were recorded in a separate schedule,” Arden explained. “Unfortunately, the council hasn't located it.” “Then how do we know whether my registration was included?” “We don't. But this summary confirms that the joint verification exercise took place and was marked as completed.” I picked up the second page. Four numbers appeared beneath the heading Pending Heir Declarations, followed by dates and abbreviations I didn't understand. “Could each number belong to a different child?” “Possibly. Some references cover multiple registrations, so we shouldn't assume that.” Helen frowned. “Julian challenged this exercise because he was worried about Lillian's registration. Surely they wouldn't have accepted his objection if she wasn't involved.” “Receiving an objection doesn't pr

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 96: The Promise

VANESSA’S POV “I want you to promise that you won't make decisions about my life without talking to me first.” Cole stared at me, his car keys dangling from one finger. “Where's this coming from? Have I done something?” “No. But I want us to talk about it before it becomes a problem.” He glanced toward the sitting room, where Dad was laughing at something on television. “Should we go outside?” I nodded and followed him onto the porch. Cole closed the door behind us, then turned to face me. “Tell me what's bothering you, Vanessa.” “You know how much I hated finding out that my parents sealed my powers when I was four. I understand they were trying to protect me, but I still had to live with the consequences.” “And you're worried I'll make the same mistake?” “I'm worried you'll decide something is too dangerous for me and try to handle it without asking what I want.” Cole slipped his keys into his pocket. “I'd never deliberately go behind your back.” “I believ

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 95: Dinner Without the Council

VANESSA’S POV“If you brought a single council document into this house, Cole Grayson, you're eating dinner outside.”Cole stopped in the doorway with two bags of food.“That's a strange way to welcome someone who's feeding you.”“Answer the question.”“No documents. Just dinner.” He raised an eyebrow. “Unless you'd like to search me?”I folded my arms, trying not to smile. “Don't tempt me.”He laughed as I stepped aside to let him in.Mom appeared from the kitchen while Cole placed the bags on the dining table.“Good evening, Cole,” she greeted him.“Good evening, Mrs. James. I brought enough for everyone.”“That was thoughtful. Vanessa's been telling me you're responsible for dinner tonight.”“She gave me very specific instructions.”“I told him not to bring anything that tastes like cardboard,” I explained, earning an amused look from Mom.Dad joined us shortly afterward and helped unpack the food. Once everything was ready, Mom suggested that Cole and I take our dinner upstairs.“

  • Fake Dating The Lycan's Heir   Chapter 94: The Grayson Reference

COLE’S POV“Before you ask whether your grandfather ordered it, Cole, you need to hear what the archivist actually found.”Mrs. Ellery's warning came through the phone while Dad and I sat in his study, reviewing the notes from our previous conversation.“All right,” I said. “Tell us.”“The index identifies a joint verification exercise under a Grayson succession-file reference. It doesn't identify who submitted the request, who approved it, or which family members were informed.”“But someone had to request it,” I said.“Yes, and that's the document we're trying to locate.”Dad leaned forward. “Does the entry give a date?”Mrs. Ellery read it out. It was from the period when my grandfather, Edmund Grayson, had been involved in the family's succession affairs.“Grandfather was handling those matters then,” I said.“He handled some of them,” Dad corrected. “Other people were responsible for administrative correspondence. We don't know whether he saw this particular request.”“Wouldn't h
