Cassie's POV

Veronica and I had attended the game between the Metro Hyenas and Raven Knights. Raven Knights had won by a landslide, a whooping 4 goals to nil.

Raven fans were still loitering around, high from their convincing win.

The three stars of the game were announced over the PA: Third star, defenseman Luke Harris. Second star, winger Matt Delaney. First star, captain Josh Walker. All Raven Knights. And they were being interviewed by another media team.

Veronica and I stood in the media holding area, press badges clipped to our jackets, waiting. My name was on tonight’s assignment for Arena Report: post-game interviews with them. Veronica was just here to shadow me.

Then the team’s PR rep waved me in, leading me to the cramped interview room. Cameras were already set up, a couple of reporters fiddling with their mics.

Luke was first, still grinning under his helmet hair. I clicked the recorder on.

Cassie’s POVThe next morning, I woke up to twenty missed calls and a wall of unread messages from Alison and Ledger. The messages from Ledger were centered around the same thing: Him wanting to talk to me and explain everything… He was sorry, he was only trying to help… I was so distraught about my apartment that he thought I needed something to distract me.I tried not to dwell on it.Alison's messages showed she was annoyed and hurt. Annoyed that I'd dared to leave without telling her and hurt before I'd ‘thought’ to leave without telling her.I told them both the same thing: I needed space. Time to think. You: We can still text though. You're not getting rid of me that easily.Alison: Good. I was about to track your phone. My jaw dropped. You: I expected that from Ledger not you!Alison: What else was I supposed to do?!Alison: Forget it. What will you do about his confession?Right. The missed calls weren't the only thing I woke up to… A clip of Ledger professing his love to m

Cassie's POVWhen I finally returned home only Whitney was in. Alison was apparently still at school working on a fashion project and was going to be there all night. It was the first time I heard of it.I decided I would talk to her about having a girls' day out so we could catch up. I only hoped that what I was about to do wouldn't cause our friendship to end.“Hey, Cassie.” Whitney greeted. “How are you? How was work?” She was all smiles. I wasn't about to dampen someone else's mood, not when she was this happy. So, I forced a smile of my own and said, “it was great!” I said cheerfully, proud of my own acting. “I got to interview the star players of the game and it was fun.”I stopped there. I didn't tell her that Ledger had confessed his feelings or that I didn't say it back. She didn't have to know that it went downhill from there. So I held it all back. But I must have screwed somewhere, because Whitney’s smile faded and then she frowned in concern. “What happened?”It was my

Cassie's POV I made my exit before Ledger returned, still reeling from his confession. I needed space. Time. Anything that would let me breathe without the weight of his words pressing in.But the moment I stepped outside, my mind went somewhere I didn’t want it to — to the paps who’d caught us earlier. Had they just taken pictures, or was there a video? What if Ledger hadn’t managed to catch them? What if it was already circulating?I groaned. All I wanted was one quiet week. Was that too much to ask?“What took you so long?” Veronica asked the second I stepped back into the office.I sat up straighter, masking my expression. “You just may find out tomorrow,” I said lightly. She raised a brow, curious, but didn’t push. Instead, she said, “Nolan wants to see you.”“Nolan would like to see you in his office.”That made my stomach tighten. “Now?”“Now,” she confirmed, already turning away to answer a ringing phone.“Okay, cool.”As I made my way down the hallway toward Nolan’s office,

Cassie's POV “Well, nice to meet you, man…” Dave cleared his throat. “Right. I’ll, uh… see you later, Cassie.” He backed off, almost tripping over Veronica’s chair as he moved to stand beside her seat. She gave him an unimpressed look.Ledger didn’t respond. He just gave Dave one last look, then turned to me. “You ready?”I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t exactly ignore the way my pulse jumped. “Sure. I’ll grab lunch with my man here,” I told them.Ledger’s lips curved faintly as he guided me out of the office, his hand never leaving my back.Once we were outside, I shook my head. “You didn’t even say hi.”“Didn’t need to,” he said flatly.I sighed, glancing up at the man currently playing human barricade. “Really?”He finally looked down at me. “What?”“You just caveman’d the poor guy.” I queried as we walked down the stairs.“He was flirting with you.”“He flirts with everyone.”“He flirts with you,” Ledger said, deadpan. “Not everyone.”I bit back a smile. “You’re jealous.”“Of cou

Cassie's POV For the first time since I'd become an intern for Arena Report, I was visiting the headquarters. Or maybe, home office was a better term.My supervisor, Nolan Andrews’ office was on the second floor so I had to take the elevator. My curious, journalism instincts told me to explore the building. It looked like a place that lived and breathed sports. But once again, I had to hold back. Nolan was waiting.I knocked once I arrived at a door labelled Nolan Andrews.“Come in.” He said from behind the door.I entered without hesitation. “Monroe,” he greeted, voice clipped but not unkind. “Good timing. We’ve got a lot to cover.” His face was still buried into the laptop he was using, tapping away.“Take a seat.” He instructed. I grabbed the seat across from him and sat, crossing my legs. Then I waited patiently for him to conclude whatever he was doing.Once he was done, he finally looked up at me, closing the laptop. “Sorry about that. As I said, I have something for you.” “Ho
