Cassie's POV

I was back in my shared cabin with Alison. My head was throbbing from everything that had happened. I rubbed my temple, trying and failing to sooth the pain.

The door opened and Alison stepped in.

“You okay?”

I hesitated. “Define ‘okay.’”

She didn’t push for details, something I appreciated about her. “If you need an excuse to disappear at any point, I can make that happen.”

“Thanks,” I said, and meant it.

A knock at the door cut off anything else I might’ve said. It was Whitney, holding two water bottles. “We’re supposed to meet in the lounge in ten. Flight briefing.”

Alison took hers with a nod. “We’ll be there.”

When she left, Alison turned to me. “Ready?”

“No,” I said honestly. “But let’s go.”

We made our way down to the lounge, and I forced myself to keep step with her. The briefing was straightforward: basic flight rules, safety reminders, where to find things. My mind wandered halfway through, but I caught enough to avoid looking clueless later.

Cassie’s POV“I can’t believe tonight’s our last night here in Laucala,” Alison announced mid-stretch, her arms rising like she was reaching for the ceiling.I froze mid-step. “We’re leaving in the morning?”She nodded casually. “Yes. Around seven.”“What?” I yanked my wrist up to check the time, like that would somehow confirm it.Alison chuckled. “Well, we can't stay here forever now, can we?”I shook my head. “No, no… I thought we were leaving today. Tomorrow’s Monday after all.”“Oh.” She grinned knowingly. “I see what’s happening. Don’t worry, tomorrow’s Sunday.” She assured me.But I didn't feel assured, at all. The expression on my face must have revealed how I felt because Alison laughed. “Tomorrow's only Monday if we remain here, Cassie. There's a time difference of about… sixteen hours?”My mouth formed an ‘o’. “Ok, that makes sense now. Wow that's such a cheat code.”“Exactly,” she said, clearly pleased. “So. Where should we check out next?”We wandered away from the other

Cassie's POVThe heaviness sat there until Lady Celeste finally broke it with a dry laugh. “Well. So much for the spa easing the tension. Seems we’ve come full circle.”“Not quite,” Lady Adelaide replied, her tone lighter now. “We still have massages next.”“Thank God,” Alison groaned. “I feel like a seventy-year-old. My shoulders are killing me.”I said nothing and the conversation moved on without me. My mind was on the whole Jude situation. I thought I was warming up to him, but there seemed to be some lingering feelings left.“Are you alright?” I heard Alison ask beside me.“I don't know, to be honest.” I admitted. She didn't say anything at first. Instead, she gave me a slow nod, like she actually understood. “You know… I get it. Even though father and I aren’t close, if he just disappeared for years and then suddenly popped back in? I’d be furious. Hurt too. Adult or not.”It was my turn to nod. You'd think it would be easier to deal with as an adult, but somehow I felt worse.

Cassie's POV For some reason, I felt a little stumped that the Fergusons were leaving. I didn’t have any romantic feelings toward Ethan, but somewhere along the way, he’d slipped into the category of “friend I’d actually miss.” Which, honestly, wasn’t something I expected when I first met him.“Now, love, don’t look so heartbroken. I just might get the wrong idea,” Ethan teased, flashing that grin of his.I sighed, rolling my eyes. “Just go, jeez.”But the words didn’t come from me.She trotted towards us, her expression calm yet angry at the same time. “Why do you keep stalling? Leave if you're leaving.”Ethan shot her an amused look. “Wow, you seem eager to get rid of me. You're not even hiding it.”Alison nodded casually. She went on, “You’ve been hogging her the entire time. Do you know how hard it’s been for me to get any actual one-on-one with Cassie? You Ferguson boys are exhausting.”Ethan pressed a hand to his chest in mock offense. “Ah, so that’s what this is. Jealousy. Don

Ledger's POV Liam didn’t look angry like I’d expected. Just… confused.“Bloody hell, sis, that was a bit much… even for you,” Ethan muttered, shaking his head.I didn’t bother turning to him. My eyes stayed on Liam, who chewed his food slowly, thoughtful before shrugging.“If father decides that is what is best for the company, then so be it.” He said casually, turning back to his food.I rolled my eyes. Typical Liam. Always going along with whatever Father wanted.Elaine hummed, low and deliberate. My gaze flicked towards her. There was a twinge of amusement in her eyes as she regarded Liam.“Well, that's no fun, is it? Just going along with whatever your dad says?” she said lightly, tilting her head. “Tell you what, give me five dates. If, after those five, you don’t feel owt for me, I won’t bring up marriage again. Instead, my family will help yours develop any real estate project you’ve got in mind. You’ll have access to some of our contacts too.”She said it like it was nothing,

Cassie's POV I watched Ledger's mood shift in an instant, though he said nothing. I wondered if he could feel my gaze on him. I saw him struggle to turn back to the Cassava while Ethan stepped into the kitchen. “Wow, it's freaking crowded in here.” He commented. “My nose can't settle between the aroma, the smoke or everyone's deodorants.”I chuckled lightly. “Classic Ethan. Kind of you to show up now.” I joked. It was his mother that spoke up. “Sorry about the delay. It took some of us a longer period to get ready.” She said, shooting daggers at a slender lady standing beside her. She looked elegant like Alison and Dorothy but I had a feeling she was the type to be rude, nice, and be bold on a whim. Also, I couldn't help but feel like I'd seen her before. The person in question looked mildly offended. “Wow, ma. Pretty sure Ethan took longer because he was trying to…”Ethan cleared his throat loudly. “Cassie, you haven't met my sister yet. This is Elaine. Elaine, this is Cassie.”E

Ledger's POV Jude had left me in the lounge after being pulled away by a call. The tension here was palpable. Even though Liam and I were sitting side by side, we could barely exchange more than a few words. Not with Father sitting across from us. It wasn’t that Liam and I were suddenly at odds; it was the way our father’s presence could still lock our words in our throats, even now as adults.Thinking back, our relationship with him had never been warm. He was either busy or watching us like a hawk, measuring how well we performed academically or how sharp we were in training to someday take over the business. The first time I remember receiving anything close to his attention was years ago, after a fight. I’d been dragged into the principal’s office for bloodying a neighbor’s son who mocked Liam… called him a bastard because we weren’t identical twins. I’d expected Father’s fury when he was called in, but he hadn’t been angry. He’d listened, nodded, accepted the suspension, and wal
