After Mrs. Smith carefully helped me onto the bed, Henry finally said in a low voice with urgency, "Avery, I'm sorry, I'm really sorry. I didn't know such a terrible thing would happen. What I said was all in anger. I didn’t want it to happen at all!"

He reached out to hold my hand but hesitated upon seeing my injuries.

Remembering his conversation with Scarlett last night made me irritable, "Stop acting. You were worried about Scarlett staying alone in a hotel but believed I was making a fuss when going out alone.

"When you rushed me out of the door, every sentence you said to me was about her. Whether those were words of anger or your true feelings, both of us know very well."

His face turned pale as he squatted in front of me gripping a chair nearby.

"Can you forgive me? My feelings for Scarlett are just unresolved. There's nothing more."

He kept mumbling in my ear until my already heavy head felt even more dizzy.

I grabbed the water cup from the table and threw it at him.
