“Where is it?” Christian asked, hope and desperation mixing in his voice.

Eleanor pressed a shaking hand to her temple, fighting through fragments of buried memory.

“North,” she said slowly. “Past the old orchard road. A small house, hidden behind trees. Your father used it when he needed to disappear from everyone, even his own family.”

“Can you find it again?” Jessica asked gently.

“I think so,” Eleanor said. “If I see the road, I might remember the rest.”

“Where is it?” Christian asked, hope and desperation mixing in his voice.Eleanor pressed a shaking hand to her temple, fighting through fragments of buried memory.“North,” she said slowly. “Past the old orchard road. A small house, hidden behind trees. Your father used it when he needed to disappear from everyone, even his own family.”“Can you find it again?” Jessica asked gently.“I think so,” Eleanor said. “If I see the road, I might remember the rest.”Christian changed direction immediately, heading away from the city and toward the quiet countryside north of town.“Felix,” he said into the radio, “meet us at the fallback point instead. Don’t go anywhere near the backup location.”“Understood,” Felix’s voice crackled back, tension clear in his tone. “Be careful.”They drove in tense silence for nearly thirty minutes, Eleanor watching the passing scenery with growing recognition.“There,” she said suddenly, pointing toward a narrow dirt road barely visible between overgrown tree

“We need to move her right now,” Christian said, already reaching for his mother’s hand. “Immediately.”“I don’t understand,” Eleanor said, fear creeping into her confused expression. “Move where?”“Somewhere safe,” Christian said gently, though urgency sharpened his voice. “Please, trust me.”Jessica turned to Dr. Patterson. “How quickly can she be discharged?”“This isn’t standard procedure,” Dr. Patterson said, though alarm was building on her face too. “But given what you’ve just shown me, I understand the urgency.”“Sarah could already be moving,” Felix said, checking his phone anxiously. “If she knows we’re here, she knows exactly how much time she has left.”Christian knelt beside his mother’s chair, taking her trembling hands gently in his own.“I know this is confusing,” he said softly. “I know you barely remember me. But I need you to trust me right now. Someone dangerous is coming, and I won’t let her hurt you again.”Eleanor studied his face carefully, something shifting b

The care home sat quiet at the end of a long road, its windows glowing softly in the darkness.Christian barely waited for the car to stop before he was moving, Jessica hurrying to keep pace beside him.“Christian, wait,” she said. “We need to think about how we approach this.”“I’ve waited thirty years,” Christian said, his voice tight with emotion. “I’m not waiting any longer.”Security followed close behind as they approached the entrance, Felix trailing with his laptop still clutched under his arm.A nurse at the front desk looked up in surprise as they burst through the door.“Can I help you?” she asked cautiously.“I need information about a patient,” Christian said. “Initials E.F. Admitted almost thirty years ago.”The nurse’s expression shifted immediately, uncertainty flickering across her face. “I’m not authorized to share patient information without proper documentation.”“This is urgent,” Christian said. “Please.”“Sir, I understand you’re upset, but I need proper authoriz

“Nobody move,” Christian said quietly, his hand finding Jessica’s arm in the darkness.Felix fumbled for his phone, the small light barely cutting through the thick black around them.“This isn’t a power outage,” he whispered. “Someone cut the main line deliberately.”Jessica’s heart pounded as she pressed close to Christian, fear crawling up her spine.“Security,” Christian said into his radio, keeping his voice low. “We have a blackout inside Felix’s office. Move in now.”Static crackled through the radio, no response coming through.“They’re not answering,” Christian said, tension sharpening his voice.Footsteps echoed somewhere near the door, slow and deliberate.“Who’s there?” Christian demanded, positioning himself protectively in front of Jessica. No answer came, only the soft sound of movement drawing closer.Felix’s phone light swung toward the door, catching a shadow just before it disappeared behind a filing cabinet.“There,” Felix whispered.Christian moved carefully, his

Felix’s office sat quiet and dark except for a single lamp glowing near his desk.Jessica gripped Christian’s hand tightly as they walked inside, security positioned carefully outside despite Felix’s earlier request to come alone.“You brought security,” Felix said, standing quickly from his chair. “I asked you to come prepared, not surrounded.”“After tonight, we’re not taking chances with anyone,” Christian said. “Explain everything, right now.”Felix nodded slowly, gesturing toward two chairs across from his desk.“Everything Lira told you about Sarah is true,” he said. “Every word.”“How do you know that?” Jessica asked carefully.“Because I’ve been working for Sarah too,” Felix admitted. “Since the very beginning of your investigation into Ellison.”Jessica felt her stomach drop, betrayal crashing through her chest despite already suspecting this possibility.“You lied to us this entire time,” Christian said, fury sharpening his voice.“Not entirely,” Felix said quickly. “Everyth

“She’s watching us right now,” Jessica whispered, staring at the message.Christian’s hands tightened around the phone. “How does she always know exactly what’s happening?”“Cameras,” Lira said quietly. “She’s had this house monitored for months, long before Ellison’s arrest.”“We swept the entire house already,” Christian said. “Found every device.”“Not every one,” Lira said. “Sarah’s equipment is different. Harder to detect. She learned from watching Ellison’s mistakes.”Jessica felt sick, remembering every private conversation, every moment of fear and hope shared inside these walls, all of it potentially watched and recorded.“Why would Sarah do any of this?” Jessica asked. “She helped expose corruption. She seemed genuinely committed to justice.”“Justice was never her real goal,” Lira said. “Control was. Every scandal she helped expose removed a competitor, someone standing in the way of her own influence.”“What influence?” Christian demanded. “She’s a journalist.”“She’s much
