Chapter 25 - The Hospital

Aria’s POV

The hospital smelled like antiseptic. I pushed through the revolving doors, my sneakers squeaking on the polished floor, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead. My heart was still hammering from the car ride and having to run off from school.

I had expected the worst.

The entire drive there, every possible nightmare had crossed my mind. Mylo collapsing. My mother is crying. Doctors telling me they had run out of options.

By the time I reached the hospita

Chapter 43 - The RivalsLuca's POVThe puck slid across the ice, a black blur against white, and I followed it, my skates carving sharp arcs, my stick connecting with a satisfying crack that echoed off the empty boards.Tyler and Derek walked in, their voices carrying across the rink, but I didn't respond. I kept skating, not paying attention to them."Luca, man…" Tyler started.I slammed the puck into the goal. The net shuddered, and I turned, my breath misting in the cold air. "What?"They exchanged glances. Derek shifted his weight, his hockey bag sliding off his shoulder. "We just greeted you.""I heard."Tyler stepped closer. "Look, about yesterday, about Serena. I'm sorry, okay? I shouldn't have told her where you were. I thought it was the best idea.""You thought." I laughed, harsh and joyless, the sound bouncing off the ice. "That's the problem, Tyler. You always think about what’s best. You and Derek both. You thought you knew what I wanted. You thought I'd want to see her.”

Chapter 42 - The CipherAria's POVI grabbed my phone and searched every combination of words I could think of. Ancient werewolf ciphers. Secret pack codes. Historical encryption systems. Even forgotten royal dialects. Page after page appeared on my screen, but none of them resembled the strange symbols in Dad's journal. Whatever language he had written wasn't something the internet knew. It was personal... or deliberately hidden.I kept the journal back in my luggage, buried beneath folded clothes, and brought out my own journal. My eyes caught sight of scribbled notes I had written down when I was extremely obsessed about finding my father. I flipped to a fresh page and began writing what I had seen today.'The codes in Dad's journal don't match the standard codes I had seen online. But he left what felt like a hint, or it could be random jargon. There was the poem about the oak and the wolf. Three turns left, then right, then left again. It's a combination, but for what? Another bo

Chapter 41 - Dark FiguresAria's POV"Aria!" Lily rushed toward me, dropping to her knees beside us. "Are you hurt?"I blinked, trying to steady my breathing. My ears were still ringing from the sound of shattering glass."I... I don't think so," I whispered.Only then did I realize Luca's arm was still wrapped tightly around me, shielding me even though the danger had already passed. He slowly let go and Lily helped me to my feet.Across the room, Tyler and Derek hurried to Luca's side."Easy," Tyler said, catching him by the arm as he staggered.Derek frowned at Luca's bloodied hand. "You idiot... you caught the bottle with your bare hand."Luca glanced down at his palm and gave a tired laugh. "Feels like there's still glass in it.""The medical team is already on the way," Tyler said. Before anyone could say another word, Luca swayed. His knees almost gave out beneath him.I reacted without thinking.I crossed the distance between us and caught him by the shoulders before he hit th

Chapter 40 - The GlassAria's POVThe dance ended, but Luca didn't let go. His hand remained on my waist, his fingers pressing into the fabric of my gown with a desperation that felt too real for performance. The music shifted, faster now, but we stood frozen in the center of the floor, two statues in a sea of movement."Luca." I kept my voice low, my smile fixed for the cameras."That's why we are performing in the first place. We want them to stare at us.""We had a deal. Just one dance."He finally released me, stepping back, his expression shuttering into the blank mask I was learning to hate. "Right. The deal."I turned away, heading toward our table, my heart hammering against my ribs. The bond pulsed between us, warm and confused, pulling me back toward him even as every rational instinct screamed at me to run.Lily caught my eye from across the room, her expression questioning. I shook my head slightly and reached for my water glass.I raised the glass to my lips. Before I cou

Chapter 39 - Cold RiftLuca's POVThe hallway was empty, the music from the dining hall swelling toward us like a wave. I could hear laughter, glasses clinking, and the low hum of a hundred conversations. A world continuing without us, indifferent to our fractures.I caught up to her at the staircase, my hand brushing hers. She jerked away."Aria...""Don't." She didn't look at me. "Not here and not now.""Aria, please. Just let’s just talk this out."She stopped on the landing, turning to face me, her voice low enough for only my hearing, " We have a contract, Luca. So let's honor it. Let's smile and dance and feed each other dessert, and tomorrow.." She paused, the words sticking in her throat."Tomorrow, we can go back to being roommates who hate each other. It's simpler that way."I stared at her, my hands clenched at my sides like I was fighting the urge to reach for her."Is that what you want?" I asked, my voice barely audible."It's what we have going on between us."She turned

Chapter 38 - Bitter ReminderAria's POVLily looked at me, totally confused. "Wait, let me get something right. You dated Luca because he promised he was going to sponsor your education.""He was the only one willing to help. I just couldn't place my ego first before my brother's life, you know. And now, I'm paying for that decision."Lily reached for my hand and squeezed it gently. "You don't have to beat yourself up about that, you know. You made that decision for justifiable reasons. You shouldn't feel stupid because you walked in on Luca kissing Serena in Tyler's room.""But I'm not supposed to feel this way. I know what I walked into, the moment I signed up to be his performative girlfriend, but instead I feel used.""Well, sometimes people grow on us, and we can feel that way, you know. Come here and let me fix your makeup. We would both return to the party, and I would be your date instead. Screw Luca! He can be with Serena for all we care."I hugged her, feeling so glad I fina
