Hazel's POV

After a while, Mr. Edward exhaled slowly, as if letting the thought go.

“Strange,” he murmured.

Jaxon tilted his head slightly staring at him. “What is the issue?”

His eyes returned to me once more.

“She reminds me of someone I knew a long time ago. Mostly her eyes.”

My throat went dry

Someone he used to know? Who?

“Your full name, Miss?”

“Hazel Pierce”

“Pierce…” he repeated under his breath.

He said it with so much curiosity like he was weighing it.

Comparing it to something only

  • Faking it with the Hockey Bad Boy   Chapter 145: I don't want to stop

Hazel's POVI didn't say anything for the first few minutes. Jaxon also didn't push me to say anything. He was focused on the road, and that silence as awkward as it felt was soothing. I watched the neighborhood slide past the window. The familiar streets gave way to the broader road. But it wasn't long before the questions started flooding into my head. What if Mr. Oswald doesn't recognize me? What if he's not my father? What if he doesn't believe in my story?“Stay with me, Haz,” Jaxon voice came through breaking into my thoughts“I don't know who I am,” I said. “Rebecca Sterling. I keep saying it in my head and I don't know if it belongs to me or if it doesn't.”Jaxon was quiet but his eyes were fixed to me right now.“Not everything is supposed to make sense right now, which is why we would get answers ,” “I know but my mind is finding it hard to stop.”At this point he didn't say much, he just gave my hand his usual reassuring squeeze.“I am having cold feet now.”“You've been

  • Faking it with the Hockey Bad Boy   Chapter 144: Leaving

Hazel's POVI woke up before my alarm and lay still for a while, listening to the sounds of the house settling around me.There was a time when those sounds were familiar in a comforting way, the particular creak of the third stair, the distant sound of the neighborhood waking up outside the window. I had grown up in this house, or at least I had grown up in a version of it. I wasn't entirely sure anymore what that meant.I got dressed without turning on the overhead light.Downstairs, my father was already at the kitchen table with his coffee and his newspaper, which was how he spent every morning, unhurried, projecting the particular calm of a man with nothing to hide. I had found that calming once. Now it just looked like practice.“Morning,” I said, going to the counter to pour myself coffee.“You slept well?,” he said, without looking up from the paper. “A little.”“Good. You needed it.” He turned a page. “Sit down. I made eggs.”I ate my breakfast without tasting them while

  • Faking it with the Hockey Bad Boy   Chapter 143: Is that a threat?

Trey’s POVThe storage room at the end of the athletics corridor was the least monitored space in the building, which was why I used it.Tiffany was already inside when I arrived, arms crossed, her blazer from the hearing still on. The composed version of her from the review room was completely gone. I closed the door behind me.“Well,” I said. “That wasn't so badly.”“Don't.” Her voice was flat. “Do not even for a second down play this. They have footage, Trey. The Actual footage. Someone submitted it to the board before we even walked in there today.”“I know, Tiff.”“Then you know we have a problem.” She stepped closer. “They asked about the script, the rehearsals. They knew the wording didn't come from Hazel naturally. How long before they start asking who wrote it?”I kept my expression even. "That's why we stay calm and say nothing."“Stay calm? That's your advice, Seriously” Her pitch getting high.“It's better than panicking in a corridor.”“I'm not panicking. I'm telling you

  • Faking it with the Hockey Bad Boy   Chapter 142: The Price of Silence

Hazel's POVThe following morning arrived whether I was ready for it or not. Between discovering Rebecca Sterling, searching through my dad’s files, and trying not to think about everything that it might mean, I had almost forgotten about the disciplinary hearing the university had scheduled for today. The hallway outside the hearing room was the same as it always was, low light. Students passed in clusters at the far end, going about their morning like nothing significant was happening anywhere in the building.I stood near the wall, trying to force my mind to focus on where I was.Rebecca Sterling. Age four. Deceased.“Hey.” Jaxon's voice came from my left. He had been watching me for at least a minute, I could tell by the way he spoke, and the look in his eyes. “Where are you right now?”“Here,” I said.“You're really not.”I looked at him. He was studying my face with all seriousness that I had to admit to the truth.“I keep seeing the picture,” I admitted. “Every time I try to fo

Hazel's POV "Let's do it," I whispered finallyJaxon studied my face for a moment before nodding. He didn't ask if I was sure. Maybe because he knew I wasn't because neither of us could afford to wait anymore. We walked back into the study together. This time, I wasn't looking for Rebecca,or searching for a photograph or a name that could explain why a dead girl had my face.I was searching for Rivers, the man who raised me and has been standing between me and the truth for eighteen years now.Jaxon pulled the TRUST folder back onto the desk while I stood beside him, watching his every movement. The room felt different now. It was the same place I had entered earlier that morning, the same shelves, the same desk, the same quiet but I wasn't the same person who had walked in.He carefully went through the documents again, this time with a purpose. We were looking for anything that explained why he had records connected to a girl who was supposedly dead.I watched Jaxon scan through pa

Hazel's POVI gathered the photograph and the death certificate carefully into the envelope and set it aside while I arranged the rest of the documents back inside the TRUST folder exactly as I had found them, putting it back on the shelf. My hands were moving on instinct at this point because my brain had slowed to almost nothing.I left the study and walked straight to my room, needing space, needing air, just anything that made sense at the moment.Outside the window, the morning continued like nothing had changed, the world kept going while mine felt like it had split open.My hands were still shaking when I pulled out my phone and called Jaxon. He answered almost immediately"Haz. You okay? You sound...""I found something," I interrupted. He took a deep breath "Slow down, babe, what happened?"I opened my mouth, but the words wouldn't come out properly. How was I supposed to explain something that didn't even make sense in my own head?"There's a little girl," I finally whispere

Hazel's POV Morning came too fast.I woke up with that hollow feeling in my chest, last night was an horror I hadn't hope to witness.
