The ride to Lauren’s place felt like sitting inside a storm that wouldn’t break. Mia kept stealing glances at Colt from the corner of her eye. She wanted to stay angry at him for everything Lauren had been through, but something in his face made that hard. He looked shattered, lost — like someone who was broken.

Colt only drove, his jaw clenched and grip tight on the wheel, his mind clearly elsewhere, spinning in a dark, distant place. Then suddenly he snapped, “Shit!” and slammed his palm against the steering wheel.

Mia jumped, her breath catching.

Colt closed his eyes for a second, ran a hand over his face, and muttered, “Sorry. I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to scare you.” He didn't look at her, staring only at the road ahead.

Lauren balanced the brown grocery bags against her hip as she walked toward her apartment building. Her steps were slow, and her mind felt far heavier than the bags she carried. Two days had passed since Colt walked out her door, and she could still remember every word that was said and every emotion that was on his face. Her chest tightened just thinking about it.She reached her building's entrance, adjusting the bags, when a car pulled to a stop right in front of her.She froze.Logan got out quickly and shut the door behind him. “Lauren,” he called, relief flooding his face. “God, I’m so happy I finally met you today.”She shut her eyes for a second and took a long, tired breath, gathering the patience she had left. “What are you doing here, Logan?” she asked quietly. He lifted his hands a little, as if he wanted to calm her before she even reacted. “I know I’m the last person you want to see. I get that. But I needed to tell you something, and I didn’t know how else to reach you.

Colt sat in the driver's seat long after he pulled away from Lauren’s building. The engine was off, but the silence in the car felt louder than any noise. His hands gripped the steering wheel so hard his knuckles paled, holding it tight as if his life depended on it. He could feel his heartbeat everywhere — in his fingertips, in his throat, behind his eyes, as if his body didn't know how to calm down. He whispered the words again to hear them out loud.“I'm going to be a father.”Saying it made his stomach twist into a knot. It made his chest burn with a heat he couldn’t name. He let his head fall back against the headrest and closed his eyes.He was thirty years old. He ran a billion-dollar empire. He fired people, made deals, and handled pressure every single day. But this? This was bigger than anything he had ever faced; it made him feel like a terrified boy.“God, I don't know if I'm ready for this,” he said into the quiet car, his voice breaking. He dragged in a shaky breath; h

“What?”The word was barely above a whisper. Lauren stared at him, her heartbeat racing. She looked at Colt as if he had started speaking a language she didn't understand.“What did you say?” she whispered, her voice barely holding together.Colt didn't blink. He slowly stepped closer, his eyes burning with a raw intensity she’d never seen before. “I said, marry me.”Lauren shook her head, a quick, shaky movement as if she was trying to wake up from a dream. She stumbled back, her foot almost tripping on the rug. “I don’t… I don’t understand, Mr. Moore.”Colt exhaled heavily in frustration, running his hand through his hair until it stood in messy peaks. “First of all, Lauren, call me Colt. We're past the titles.”Lauren’s chest rose and fell as she took a deep breath. She felt like she was watching herself from a distance, her mind spinning.Colt took another step, closing the gap until she could feel the heat radiating off him. “Secondly… yes. I’m engaged. But it’s an arranged marri

Lauren moved back and forth across her tiny living room, her phone glued to her hand. She hit redial for the fifteenth time, but the same robotic voice mocked her.Voicemail. Again and again“Damn it, Mia,” she muttered, running her hand through her tangled hair. “Pick up. Where are you?” She stopped in the center of the room, pressing her palm flat against her chest to calm her fast heartbeat. What if Mia went to him?“No,” she whispered, shaking her head. “She wouldn’t dare. She wouldn’t do that. She can’t do that to me.”But a small voice inside her told her that Mia absolutely could. She always acted first and thought later.Lauren groaned, pressing her palm to her mouth. “Oh God. Mia, please don’t be stupid.”Then she heard a sudden knock on her door, which made her jump. Lauren spun around, relief flooding her. “Mia,” she said, rushing toward the door. “Finally…” She threw the door open, ready to scold her, but the words died on her lips. Her entire body turned to stone.Colt st

The office was so silent that you could hear a pin drop.Alex let out a long whistle, shaking his head slowly. “Damn.”Colt didn’t move; he stood there stiffly. He blinked back to life, taking in a sharp breath as if someone had pulled him out of deep water.“Where is she?” he asked, his voice rough and strained. Mia crossed her arms and gave him an ice-cold stare. “You should ask yourself why she didn’t tell you in the first place.”Colt clenched his jaw so tightly that his muscles twitched.
