ELARA’S POV

The lodge felt different when we arrived. It was darker somehow, despite the morning sun streaming through the windows.

Knox carried me inside, his arms never loosening their hold. The other Vipers who’d stayed behind looked up as we entered, their expressions shifting from curiosity to shock when they saw my face.

“Jesus,” Kai breathed. “What did he do to you?”

“ Where’s Stitch?” Knox asked.

“Kitchen. Want me to get him?”

“Yeah.”

Kai disappeared. Knox carried me to the living room,

ELARA’S POV“I’m surviving,” I said flatly. “Same as all of you.”“No.” Caroline shook her head. “We survive by being obedient. By following the rules. By not making waves. You survive by making him obsessed with you.”“That’s not…”“He gave you jewelry,” Lily said quietly from near the door. It was the most I’d heard her speak in weeks. “He never gives us jewelry. He moved you to the east room. He takes you to events. He talks about you constantly.”“And we’re tired of it,” Mei added. “Tired of being ignored because you’re the shiny new toy.”I looked at their faces…at the anger and jealousy and desperation there…and felt something shift in my chest. They weren’t really angry at me. They were angry at Dmitri for having favorites. For treating them like they were disposable while lavishing attention on his newest acquisition. But I was easier to blame than him.“I didn’t ask for any of this,” I repeated. “I didn’t ask to be bought. I didn’t ask to be brought here. I didn’t ask to be

  • FORBIDDEN AFFAIR WITH THE BIKER I CAN'T HAVE    CHAPTER 129: THE VISIT

ELARA’S POV The ride home was silent. Dmitri sat beside me in the back of the car, his hand possessively on my thigh, occasionally glancing at me with satisfaction. I stared out the window at the darkness passing by, my mind churning. That voice. That man in the silver mask. It sounded exactly like Knox. The cadence. The tone. Even the way he’d apologized…quick, genuine, slightly flustered. Knox used to apologize like that when he accidentally bumped into people at the lodge. But Knox was dead. Tiny had confirmed it. Had brought me Knox’s bracelet as proof. Had told me he’d seen the body. So how could Knox be at an underground trafficking auction in Macau? It didn’t make sense. Unless… No. I couldn’t let myself go there. Couldn’t let hope creep in when hope was the most dangerous thing I could feel. “You’re quiet,” Dmitri observed. “Just thinking,” I said. “About?” “About what I saw tonight.” I turned to look at him. “About what you’re creating.” Dmitri smiled. “And?”

  • FORBIDDEN AFFAIR WITH THE BIKER I CAN'T HAVE    CHAPTER 128: THE DARKNESS

ELARA’S POVI couldn’t stop looking for him.As Dmitri moved through the crowd, exchanging pleasantries with other masked guests, my eyes kept scanning for a silver mask. For that particular build. For any sign of the man who’d bumped into me.The man with Knox’s voice.Stop it, I told myself firmly. Knox is dead. You saw his bracelet. Tiny confirmed it. It’s just someone who sounds similar. But my heart wouldn’t listen to logic. It kept racing every time I saw someone in a silver mask, kept hoping…“Pay attention,” Dmitri said quietly, his grip on my arm tightening slightly.I refocused on the conversation he was having with two other men. They were discussing something about “acquisitions” and “quality control” in terms that sounded like business but clearly weren’t.They were talking about women. About us.I kept my face serene and my eyes downcast, playing the perfect doll while rage simmered underneath.“Your newest?” one of the men asked, gesturing to me.“Yes,” Dmitri said wi

  • FORBIDDEN AFFAIR WITH THE BIKER I CAN'T HAVE    CHAPTER 127: THE FUNCTION

ELARA’S POV“I want you to accompany me tonight,” Dmitri announced during breakfast.I looked up from my plate, careful to keep my expression neutral while my mind raced.“Where?” I asked.“A function. With business associates. It’s also very exclusive.” He studied me over his coffee cup. “I want to show you off.”Show me off. Like a new car or an expensive watch.I should have felt sick. But I forced myself to believe I wanted that to. That’s the only way I can survive. So I smiled. I smiled.“I’d like that,” I said, keeping my voice soft and genuine. “Thank you for including me.”Dmitri’s eyes narrowed slightly, searching for deception. But I’d been practicing this performance for weeks now. I knew exactly how to look sincere while feeling nothing.“Good,” he said finally. “Maria will prepare you. We leave at seven.”Maria brought me to the east room that afternoon with a garment bag and a makeup case.“Mr Volkov has selected your outfit,” she said, unzipping the bag.The dress in

  • FORBIDDEN AFFAIR WITH THE BIKER I CAN'T HAVE     CHAPTER 126: THE OBSESSION

KNOX’S POVMy office looked like a conspiracy theorist’s basement.Papers covered every surface…the desk, the chairs, the floor. News articles printed and highlighted. Screenshots of forum discussions. Maps with circles and arrows connecting different locations. Notes scribbled in my handwriting that got progressively more illegible as the days wore on.All of it is about trafficking. About the networks. About the women.I’d been at this for three days straight, barely sleeping, cancelling meetings, ignoring Victoria’s increasingly worried calls.I couldn’t stop.Every time I tried to focus on something else…my mind went back to that photo. Those women are being led out of that compound. The way they’d looked small and broken and terrified. It was like an itch I couldn’t scratch. A puzzle I couldn’t solve. An obsession I couldn’t shake.Marcus had noticed. He’d been hovering, asking careful questions, clearly concerned about my mental state.I didn’t care.I needed to understand th

  • FORBIDDEN AFFAIR WITH THE BIKER I CAN'T HAVE    CHAPTER 125: THE PERFECT PERFORMANCE

ELARA’S POV“One hour,” Maria announced, checking her watch. “Exactly.”I remained perfectly still in the chair, hands folded in my lap, feet flat on the floor, spine straight. I’d been sitting like this for sixty minutes without moving a single muscle. No twitching. No fidgeting. No shifting position even slightly. My back screamed in protest…the wounds from Ray’s beating still tender, even weeks later. My legs had gone numb twenty minutes ago. Every instinct told me to move, to stretch, to relieve the building tension. But I didn’t.I sat perfectly still and stared at the point on the wall Dmitri had designated, and I thought about nothing.Or rather, I thought about everything while making my face show nothing.“You may move now,” Maria said.I stood slowly, carefully, letting blood flow back into my limbs. Pins and needles shot through my legs, but I kept my expression serene.Dmitri was watching from his position by the window. He’d been there the entire hour, observing me like
