Hours passed easily, their laughter filling the house. When it was finally time for Haley and Kyrell to leave, she hugged Eden again, her words deliberate.

“It was such a pleasure, truly. And you know, I think my brother is very lucky to have you in his life, even if he doesn’t realize it yet.”

Eden’s eyes flickered, surprise breaking through her calm expression. She glanced once at Kyrell, then back at Haley, who only smiled knowingly.

“We could sit here forever, but we really can’t. I have to pick up my fiancé at the airport very early tomorrow,” Haley said reluctantly, her lips curving into a pout that betrayed her disappointment that their time together was ending. “And then there’s the small matter of going shopping for my wedding gown.”

She said it half-playfully, but her voice carried a shade of unhappiness.

“Would you like to come with me to the mall? You are my maid o

The night breeze brushed softly against Eden’s cheeks as she stood on the terrace outside the room Gretchen had given her. The city lights below sparkled faintly, washing the horizon with a soft amber glow. She wrapped her arms around herself, not because she was cold, but because she needed something to hold onto. It felt strange being here again, free yet burdened by the weight of everything she had buried in silence.Haley had refused to let her stay in the guest room downstairs. Instead, she had dragged her luggage upstairs and claimed a room for her despite Eden’s protests to stay close to them.“You need your space. You’ve been th

“Oh, my goodness, Eddie! You look incredible!” Haley exclaimed as she wrapped her arms tightly around Eden, pulling her into a warm embrace that nearly took her breath away. Gretchen and Louis had left them alone after the dinner, and it was just three of them.“Haley, I can’t believe this is actually happening,” Eden whispered, her voice cracking slightly as tears welled up in her eyes. She blinked rapidly, trying not to let them fall.“Finally, I get to see you guys again. And Tessa, what’s that glow? There’s a lot you have to tell me—oh my God, I’ve missed out on so much!”As soon as Haley let go, Tessa stepped forward and clasped Eden’s hands. Her face softened, the same way it used to when they still lived together, before everything went wrong.“Kyrell is such a handsome child,” Eden said with a smile, bending to lift the toddler from his stroller. His tiny hands clu

“So, who’s picking her up?” Gretchen Bellamy asked as she leaned against the kitchen island, wiping her hands on a crisp white dish towel. Morning sunlight streamed through the wide windows of the Pacific Heights home, bathing everything in that soft golden hue San Francisco was famous for.“Don’t stress about that,” Haley said, stepping into the living room with Kyrell nestled against her shoulder. “Tessa and I have it covered.”“You’re sure about that?” Gretchen frowned. “I could come along. It wouldn’t b

The seatbelt was cutting lightly into her waist, but Eden barely noticed it. Her hands clenched the buckle so tightly her knuckles turned pale. Through the oval window, the city grew smaller beneath her. Clouds wrapped the rising plane in their calm embrace, but her mind was anything but calm. She had been on several flights before, usually with a soft playlist in her ears, a warm cup of coffee, and a craving for peace. But this was different. She wasn’t flying home for a homecoming. She was returning with a mission that could alter everything. Her thoughts replayed the moment at the airport, the way Kyrell held her, refusing to let go even though he was the one who had suggested her return. His eyes had shone with concern, love, and fear, a mixture that had undone her more than she cared to admit.Their conversation the night before was still etched deeply in her chest.“I can’t shake this feeling, Eden; maybe we should cancel it.” Kyrell had murmured, rubbing the bridge of his nose

Sky couldn’t let her brother see her like this. If Michael saw her, he’d ask questions, and she wasn’t ready to give him any answers.“Michael, it’s late.” She called softly, feigning a yawn and wrapping her shawl tighter around her shoulders even though he couldn’t see her from outside. “Just drop it in the mailbox. I’ve already gone to bed.”Her voice was a practiced, lazy tone. From the upstairs window, Sky watched him lean casually against his car.“Uh, okay,” Eric answ

The ride back to the house was silent. Jace’s hands were tight on the steering wheel as he sped through the dimly lit streets of San Francisco. The night air outside was crisp, but inside the car, tension thickened every breath.Beside him, Sky tried to fill the silence with nervous words, her voice trembling each time she spoke.“Jace, I’m sorry.” She said softly, her fingers twisting in her lap. “I swear I didn’t know Michael was going to bring that up tonight. I’ll talk to my father tomorrow. I promise.”
