Jonah POV

I had no intention of going to the party.

The last thing I wanted was to spend my Saturday night surrounded by people who knew me as Rhett Kane.

I had spent the entire week learning how to walk like him, talk like him, play like him and pretend that I belonged in a world I had spent my whole life resenting.

I didn't need another reminder of how easily everyone accepted the lie as long as I wore the right clothes and answered to the right name.

The Kane family had already made it cle

Wren's POVMason drove for a few minutes before turning onto a quieter road lined with restaurants and small shops. I looked through the window as he searched for somewhere to park, taking in the unfamiliar area.“I hope you don't mind the place I picked,” he said, glancing at me before turning his attention back to the road. “I figured something casual would be better than somewhere too formal.” He added.“I don't mind, I'm not really used to fancy restaurants anyway.” I assured him with nod.He smiled when he finally found a parking space and pulled into it. Before I could reach for the door, he got out and walked around the car to open it for me.“Thank you,” I said as I stepped out.“You are welcome.” He flashed me another smile and the image of Rhett popped up in my head disorienting me for a few seconds. “Are you okay? Do you not like the place?” Mason touched for my hand and I immediately smiled at him. He had no idea he had reminded me of someone else, and I instantly felt

  • Falling For The Wrong Kane   Chapter 47

Wren's POVI remained beside the table for a few minutes after Rhett walked away, pretending to organize the medical supplies even though I had already arranged everything twice.Mason's invitation kept coming back to my mind.I packed the remaining supplies into their container and carried them toward the medical room before returning to the registration desk for my bag.By the time I left the rink, most of the crowd had already disappeared. The parking lot was quieter than it had been earlier, and the cold air hit my face as I stepped outside.I pulled my coat tighter around myself and started walking toward the hostel.I kept thinking about Mason's question, but I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do with it.I barely knew him. We had spent the afternoon talking, he had helped me with a few things around the rink, and I had enjoyed his company. When I reached the hostel, my roommate was sitting on the couch with her laptop open.“You are finally back.” She looked up from the scre

Jonah's POV Mr. Whitworth drew back the minute I finished speaking. My lips curved up into a smile, but I tried not to show it.“I don't want Kane interfering with the company's daily operations.” He finally said. “You wouldn't need to worry about that. The agreement can define exactly what Kane's rights are.” I replied. “We can have our legal and financial teams work out the details.” My father watched me for a few seconds before looking back at Mr. Whitworth.“That would be appreciated.” Mr. Whitworth exhaled, and some of the tension left his shoulders. The meeting continued for another forty minutes as they discussed figures, timelines, security, and the amount Kane would be willing to provide. I listened carefully, asking questions when something wasn't clear and making suggestions whenever I saw an opportunity. When the meeting finally ended, Mr. Whitworth stood and shook my father's hand.“Thank you for hearing us out.” He appreciated.“We will have the teams contact yours,”

  • Falling For The Wrong Kane   Chapter 45

Jonah's POVMy father called me the following morning before I had even finished breakfast.“Come to the office as soon as you can,” he said when I answered the phone.“What is it about?” I asked, glancing at the clock on the wall.“We have a meeting with Whitworth.” He revealed“Mr. Whitworth?” I sat back in my chair. “Yes! He requested a meeting with the board, so I want you there.”I frowned slightly. After everything I had done to put pressure on Whitworth, I hadn't expected him to come directly to Kane Enterprises so quickly.“What does he want?” I asked hoping to get more intel.“He needs capital, you will hear the rest when you get here.” my father replied. The call ended before I could ask anything else.I finished my breakfast quickly and changed into one of Rhett's suits before leaving the estate. During the drive, I kept thinking about the timing.Whitworth had already told me that the company was struggling. Their stock had fallen, investors were getting nervous, and li

  • Falling For The Wrong Kane   Chapter 44

Jonah's POVI watched Mason disappear toward the visiting team's locker room, but I couldn't bring myself to walk away. The way he had looked at Wren was still bothering me, especially the confidence in his voice when he asked her to go out with him. He had met her that afternoon and already decided he wanted more. What bothered me even more was that Wren hadn't rejected him. She had told him she would think about it.I picked up my bag and followed him toward the hallway.“Mason.” He was several steps ahead of me when I called his name.“Yeah?” He stopped and turned around, looking mildly surprised to see me approaching. “I need to talk to you.” I closed the distance between us, keeping my voice low enough that the few staff members still moving around the hallway couldn't hear us.“About what?” He glanced toward the locker room before looking back at me. “Wren.” I frowned.“I figured that was coming.” His expression changed immediately, although the amused smile remained on his

  • Falling For The Wrong Kane   Chapter 43

Wren's POV I returned to the rink, still smiling to myself, and immediately noticed Rhett standing near the bench. He was already dressed in his uniform, his helmet tucked under one arm, but his attention wasn't on the players preparing for warm-ups. His eyes were on me. “Are you ready for the game?” I walked toward him and stopped a few feet away. “We are ready,” he answered, shifting the helmet under his arm. “Good.” I nodded. His gaze moved past me toward the visiting team's locker room before returning to my face. “What were you doing with Mason?” he asked, his expression noticeably more serious. “Moving chairs.” I looked at him for a moment. “You were gone for a while moving chairs with the captain of the opposing team?” he pointed out, his jaw tightening slightly. “You were keeping track?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest. “I happened to notice.” He looked away briefly before answering. “Why?” I smiled. “Because I'm the captain of this t
