Chapter Three
Dylan's word replayed for the umpteen time in his head. How in heaven sake could Dylan say such trash? Daniel glanced at Dylan, uncertain if he just quipped."What has come over you, Dylan? For candy's sake, checking Patricia out was an involuntary action" He clarified patiently as Dylan stared at him in amusement"Why are you suddenly being defensive?" Without giving him a chance to reply, Dylan continued. The amusement completely wiped from his face. His body relaxed as though being interview for a brand opening. "Patricia won't be your real wife. It will be a contracted marriage. Probably after six month, you guys can seek a divorce. You could come up with a plausible lie for the divorce" "It won't work Dylan." Daniel placed the empty glass on the dinning table after gulping down it content. Pessimism clouded his mind. Restlessly, he began pacing. "Graham wants a grandchild!" "That shouldn't be an issue," Dylan commented drily. "You could always adopt. Do a private adoption." He suggested thoughtfully. "Adoption? Private adoption?" Daniel's voice raised higher than normal, he stopped pacing to stare at Dylan in bewilderment. "I hope you haven't forgotten that for a celebrity, nothing is ever private. Some bunch of idiotic press must surely snoop around, bringing out all your skeleton from it closet" And in a matter of second, the news could spread like wildfire, ruining his chances of ever retaining his inheritance. No! It wasn't a nice suggestion. "Then, you've got no other alternative than to marry Patricia. Look, you could pay her to carry your child. Literally, you will be killing two birds at a time - retaining your inheritance and granting Graham his heart desire"Daniel mused over it for a minute. "You are right..." He began but stopped midway, appalled by the thought of having sex with Patricia. His phobia for stranger suddenly dawned on him. "Did you think this through?" He asked a baffled Dylan. "Come on, pregnancy doesn't happen in the air. A sperm must meet with an egg which meant 'sex must be involved' " He couldn't pin-point what was amusing in his statement. "I am just humoring you, Daniel" Dylan smiled, giving an answer to his inner thought as though blessed with a secret ability to read minds.. Slowly rising, Dylan held him from pacing. "If the thought of having sex with Patricia is so appalling, then do surrogacy" "How?" Surrogacy sounded weird. What did he truly meant by that term. "Patricia can be your surrogate. You will donate your sperm which would be infiltrated into her body through in vitro fertilization (IVF). When your sperm meet and fertilize with her egg, an embryo will be formed, leading to pregnancy"Flabbergasted was an understatement. He was really overwhelmed by the interesting idea. "Thanks man. You are a real gem!"Excited, he smacked a kiss on Dylan's cheek. "Ew.. Gross!" Dylan shrieked with a disgusting look, swatting the spot Daniel kissed as though trying to swat a gnat. He laughed heartily, just then Dylan's phone rang interrupting the moment. Muttering an 'Excuse me' Dylan answered his calls while he waited patiently. The beautiful antique on the wall caught his attention. Beautiful as it was screamed of wealth. His stomach growled reminding him of his expired bacon with egg. Dylan glanced at him with a smile. "Your stomach is hungry" not waiting for a response, Dylan rang a bell. Seconds later, Patricia walked in with a smile. "Serve him some food" "Yes Boss""How will we execute this plans?" He asked wearily as Patricia exit the room. "My attorney could draft a legal document for a contract marriage. You will include your rules, terms and condition then you both can sign before progressing to the church for the marital blessing""How long should the contract last?""It depends on you," Dylan answered, further adding "It could be two years or Fifteen month. Six month is to convince Graham that you are legally married. Nine month is for the pregnancy. Pregnancy is usually nine month. After delivery, she will stay for some month to take care of the baby. After two years, divorce paper will be signed and nannies will be employed" This was one of the reason he loved and adored Dylan. He was a smart ass, good at analysing critical situation before professing solution. "You just saved my life and everything I had ever worked hard for" he began emotionally, highly obliged to him for his great help. "It's nothing Daniel. You are my buddy, my Gee. Your happiness is my aim. I understand why you can't settle down presently but I also can't stand the image of you throwing away everything you had always worked so damn hard for to some teenage dude who has no preamble of how to manage a company" "Thanks Gee"Dylan shrugged off his gratitude. "That was my attorney, he has been informed to draft a legal document. All I need are your rules, term and condition" "Sure!"Settled, they shared private moment. Dylan helped with some rules, condition and ideas for the contracted marriage document. Alarmed, "What if Patricia heard everything we discussed?" "The sound proof system was activated earlier before your arrival, so our conversation was encrypted. No third party would know what we discussed"Chapter 55Daniel unconsciously gasped. His heart palpitated as anger took control of his mortality. Fury blazed from his eyes, with his fist clenched. Fuck the bastard! He needed to put an end to this insanity! The motherfucker perturbing their peace needed to be caught and heavily charged for assault and infringement of privacy. "I need more details," Daniel coldly urged. His eyes scanned the garage for any suspicious movement and intruder. Satisfied with the result, his gaze drifted back to Mark, who remained stoic in his postured. "The bastard this time sent a bitch I had a fling with." Mark admitted, his pride wounded. His gaze fixed on Daniel, he knew his thought. Obviously, the 'I told you to cut off with this loose women, see where it landed you' expression was what he expected to see, but he was wrong. "The lady had access to my home."This wasn't a time to cast blame, but a time to conjure a solution and ways to reprehend the bastard responsible for harassing and more. "I a
Chapter 54Surely, his eyes were deceiving him. Daniel speculated. Kate stiffened at her spot. Oh god! She clutched her heart, trying to stop it from accelerating. How in the hell did that happen? She blinked repeatedly, unsure of how to handle the situation. Breath in! Breath out. No one would know what transpired. Her subconscious mind warned. Exactly, there was no way in hell for Graham or Mark to know she was caught having a nefarious intention with Kim. Kate could vowed Daniel didn't know what transpired on that fateful night. He had only caught a glimpse of her, nothing to warrant any suspicious attitude bestowed towards her. "Hi, it's nice meeting you." She smiled, extending her soft palm for a friendly handshake. He knew what game she was playing by the partial twitch in her eyes. The light smile that didn't touch her hazel eyes. The swift way her body quickly relaxed with a faux composure that needed a little questioningly. Surely, Kate thought Daniel was either dumb or d
Chapter 53Abort? Patricia's ears itched as she drew closer. Her eyes glittered brightly. Definitely, something was wrong with Daniel. Patricia concluded with certainty. Hot tears flowed freely and silently down her cheeks as she gazed at him. His heart shattered at Patricia's tears. He had not meant to sound harsh but the action of his brutality couldn't be revoke at that point. It was too late. The twinge of regret further fueled his guilt. Swallowing back the lump in his throat, Daniel tried reaching out to Patricia. His last vow felt like an empty promise as he gazed into Patricia's face, watching helplessly as she sobbed."Look, I didn't mean to say that. I mean, I am glad that you are pregnant for me." Hell! Was he glad? Granting Graham's wish felt like a huge feat but here he was thinking of aborting. What in hell name propelled him to blurt out such outrageous statement? There knowledge of Patricia's betrayal. The knowledge of Patricia's identity. That was the force behind h
Chapter 52Daniel stopped dead on his track. His ears twitched at her words. His eyes unconsciously glanced at the wall clock - two thirty am. A sigh escaped his buccal cavity. Damn it! All reservation and composure seemed to have vanished into the silent night at that moment."Are you seriously serious?" Daniel turned back to Patricia with a blanched look accompanied by a concealed hatred. "Yeah." Patricia fluttered her eyelashes as she pouted, unconsciously caressing her little baby bump. "It's not really my fault. It's the baby's fault. She seemed to love food like her father." She winked teasingly. Daniel felt his heart raced at her statement. His lips arched to have a taste of her despite his hatred. Daniel's eyes travelled down her body covered with the silky night dress that was transparent and offered a lot to one's imagination. If not for the information he received, Daniel was certain he wouldn't have hesitated in tearing off Patricia's cloth, feasting first on her pink ni
Chapter 51Clock tickling away in the far side of the room. Patricia stirred, still soundly asleep. Her hands searched for him. Her eyes shut opened, alarmed. She sat upright, pulling the duvet up, Patricia glanced at the wall clock. It was still two am. Where could he be? She speculated, stepping a feet out of the bed to check on him. As though on cue, he sighed alerting Patricia of his presence. Trailing the direction of the voice, Patricia followed till it led her directly to the couch. A figure sprawled on the couch with a pillow beneath him. Patricia stared at him. Her hands moved gently over his cheeks, caressing him softly. His eyes shut opened at her touch. The coldness that met her gaze paralysed her heart. "Hi.." Patricia muttered cooly. "I didn't see you on the bed so I was wondering where you were but then I caught you. What happened? Why are you here and not on the bed?" Daniel's mind flicked back to the details he received. Patricia was Melissa's murderer daughter. B
Chapter 50Daniel blinked rapidly. His body tensed. His eyes widened as it remained fixed on the name, Patricia Henry. Hell! Was it what he was thinking? Gosh! It better not be. He wasn't sure if he could stemmed the hatred and hurt boiling from the depth of his stomach. Unaware of the quick changed in Daniel, Patricia moved away from him. "I will just arranged my things back." She began replacing the cloth in the closet. "I can't believe we are making this work. I mean you have always hated me right from the onset and now we are not just married. We will be expecting our first baby." Folding the silk gown into the box, Patricia gazed up. "What should we call her if it's a girl?" Daniel remained quiet. Assimilating the news he just received. His body still tensed with an incredulous expression as his heart failed to come in term with the message. His phone was still on his left hand as he kept staring into space. "Hey Hubby!" Patricia called, displeased by his silence. She threw a p
