MIKHAIL

She was something.

I turned the steering wheel as we drove away from the company. From the corner of my eye, I saw her glaring at me, still pissed about what had happened earlier.

I could take her anger, her disgust, and most importantly, her hatred towards me. But I could never imagine seeing fear in her eyes when everything repeated itself again.

I came to this realization when I led her into the bunker with bullets flying around us.

She begged me to let her out of there, but all I did was make her watch me get shot.

From time to time, I saw her staring at my chest, and at one point she tried touching the spot. It might look like she was being nasty and bratty, but I saw the worry in her eyes.

Thankfully, I had asked Eren for treatment before she woke up. That was why I did everything to make sure no danger came her way.

“So… where did you go dressed like this?” she asked, and I glanced briefly away from the road to her and saw the way her brow arched.

I smiled and focused on the road. “I went for a party,” I lied, narrowing my eyes just in time to see the way her face stiffened.

The corner of my lips lifted as satisfaction settled in me.

“How was the interview?” I decided to change the topic, but that did not change the expression on her face.

Calista glared harshly at me before turning her head to look outside.

“I don't know,” she said through clenched teeth. Someone was angry.

“Okay,” I replied and continued driving. At the same time, my phone dinged and I glanced down at the message on the screen.

[Baby, when are you coming home? I have a little surprise for you.]

Another came in.

[You didn't get in touch with me after what happened last time.]

Then another chimed in again.

[I miss you. I can't wait to have your cock buried deep inside my throat.]

The sender was Sera. I sighed heavily, turned off the screen, and focused on the road. At a distance, I saw my men's vehicles driving ahead of us, and from the rearview mirror, I saw some behind us.

Calista was not aware of this, but I had ordered forty-eight men to follow her until she finished the interview.

I glanced at her and saw she was staring outside, refusing to look at me. The reason I had stopped her from looking behind her earlier was that my men caught someone waiting to run her over with a truck.

I did not want her to witness what happened to that person.

“Do you have plans for today?” I asked, my foot pressing the brake slowly just as the car in front stopped. The traffic light had turned red, and I decided to use that moment to talk to her.

“I don't.” Surprisingly, she answered me.

“Hm.” I nodded, but at that moment my phone dinged again and I unlocked the screen to see another message from Sera.

[I'm playing with myself now, baby. I invited someone over. I have always fantasized about being fucked by two.]

Ugh.

[Your wife isn't at home, and Cal isn't either. They must have gone somewhere together. Let's have fun before they return.]

I opened the messages and deleted them. After that, I went to Maco's contact and sent him a few words.

[Get rid of her before I return.]

A few seconds later his message came in. [Understood.]

“Who's that?” Cal's voice sounded beside me and I turned to face her, only to freeze when I saw how close her face was to mine. “Is it serious?”

I swallowed the dryness in my throat from how close she was and how her arms pressed her breasts forward. My eyes unintentionally fell to her exposed cleavage, and I caught sight of the curve of her breasts.

“It isn't.” But right then a honk came from behind us, and I snapped out of my daze. “Cover yourself,” I said, but it came out harsher than I intended.

Cal glanced down at her chest and when she saw what I meant, she sat upright instantly, her hands wrapping around her chest, her neck and face flushed.

I pressed the accelerator and the car moved forward. “I didn't see anything.”

“Shut up!” she screamed.

I shut my mouth and turned the steering wheel as the car entered a different road. Cal cursed at me under her breath and I pretended like I heard nothing.

A few minutes later, the car pulled into the compound and I parked in the parking lot. I opened the driver's door and just as Cal was about to leave, I said, “Wait here.” She paused, glaring at me.

I chuckled lightly and got out of the driver's seat, walking around to her side. I opened the door and she got out, flinging her hair at me.

I closed my eyes, feeling the sting, but I did not say anything and closed the door. One of the men came over and I threw the key to him before going after Cal.

I took out my phone and checked Maco's contact, but there had not been a message from him about whether he got her out of the house or not.

Cali was almost at the door, and I rushed forward, not wanting her to see whatever that girl called a surprise.

“Cali,” I called, and she stopped, turning to face me.

“What is it this time?” she snapped, obviously still pissed from what happened earlier.

“Good, you still have some energy in you. Would you like to go somewhere with me? There's a bar that opened last week and they have some good wine. You look like you need a drink,” I said.

Calista's eyes widened in interest, but it disappeared just as quickly as it came.

“No, I'm good.” She sneered at me and grabbed the door, opening it. I tried to stop her but it was too late.

“Baby!” Sera's squeal sounded in front of us, and I stood there staring at the scene before us.

She was in lingerie. Was that supposed to be sexy? And who the hell was the fool beside her?

“Sera?” Calista exclaimed, her bag and file dropped to the floor. “What the fuck are you doing in my house?”

CALISTA“So… are we going to do the introduction?” I asked, twirling my pen. Katrina's head lifted from the book she was reading to look at me; her brows lifted slightly.“We already did that.” Someone cut in before she could reply. I faced them. “My name is Marcus, and he is Lucas, my best friend. We are already on this program together.”“Oh, I'm—” I extended my hand for a handshake, but a female appeared before me, taking my hand.“Calista.”My brows shot up. How does she know my name?“Um… you are?”“I'm Fara,” she smiled at me.“Oh.” My mind spun in circles as I wondered if I had heard that name before, but nothing came to mind. “It's nice to meet you, Fara.”“Same. Don't be too puzzled. I learned your name from Mrs. Parker's lips and your ID hanging around your neck.” She pointed at my chest, and I lowered my head to see that indeed it was.Oh, lord. I'm not used to this.We settled around a table at the far end of the company's cafeteria, discussing how our day went. Fara seems

CALISTAI messed up.“We are here,” Mikhail’s voice snapped me out of my thoughts, and I shook my head, slapping my cheeks lightly. “Um… are you okay?”“No.” I snapped at him, unhooking the seatbelt. “I’ll only be fine if you cancel those 20 guards you assigned to watch over me.”Mikhail laughed softly at my words and didn’t say anything.Gritting my teeth, I pushed the car door open and got out, slamming it with all the strength I had.I knew he would visit the mechanic workshop, and that was my motive.I bent down to look at him through the car window and gave him the middle finger.“Bye bye. Enjoy spending some dollars on your car door.” I stared at the expression on his face in satisfaction before marching toward the company.I hurriedly climbed the short stairs before making it inside the entrance. My gaze swept around the people walking about, each one of them having their ID card hanging around their neck.I walked past the receptionist and got inside the elevator along with ma

CALISTA“Which hospital is she in?” The words slipped out of my mouth the minute I got down the stairs. My eyes went to Mikhail, who was going through something on his phone, and in his left hand was a newspaper. He looked up from the phone, his eyes settling on me before moving behind me. I didn't need to turn to see what he was looking at.“You're awake.” He ignored my question, setting down his phone and the newspaper on the table. “I thought Eren said her body needs more rest?” His brows shot up as he glanced past me to Eleanor.“Yes, but for now… let her do the minimal things.” She answered, walking past me to the table.Mikhail's eyes moved from her and landed on me, and for some reason, I felt the scolding in his eyes.“What?” I snarled at him, my fists clenched beside me, and I wanted to punch him.He sighed softly, rubbing his face. “Now that she's awake, Eleanor, what next?”Eleanor didn't answer immediately, her eyes on something in the newspaper. She dragged it to herself,

CALISTA“M-Mihail?” My teeth clattered as I stared at the body far away from us. “Y-you hit her. She's not moving!”“H-hey, hey.” He ran over to me as my legs gave way beneath me. He caught me before I could hit the floor and covered my eyes with his hand, pressing my head to his chest. “S-she's not dead.”My body shook violently as coldness seeped into me. H-he hit her.Is she dead?Dread crawled through me at the thought of witnessing a murder scene. Why would he do that?“Let me go.” I lifted my hand to push him away, but it fell to the floor. I struggled to lift it again, but it fell limp beside me.Mikhail hugged me tightly, his heart beating heavily against my ear. “It's okay.” His muffled voice followed. My teeth sank into my flesh, and just as I was about to speak, a voice echoed from the parking lot.“Calista…huh? What happened here?” Footsteps approached us, and I didn't know where the strength came from, because one minute I was wrapped in Mikhail's embrace and the next, I

CALISTA“Here is your order.” Kat placed the wine on the table. “Call me if you need anything. I'll be over there.” She glanced briefly at both of us before leaving, returning to her original spot.I stared at the table we were sitting at, at the far end of the bar, and sighed softly, pressing my forehead. I had completely forgotten the reason I was here.“Is she someone new?” Sera asked, pushing one of the glasses toward herself.“Yeah,” I answered, but didn't say anything after that.Nodding, Sera mouthed an “oh” before bending down to sip her wine, and her eyes widened slightly.I expected her to say something about the wine, but she didn't. Instead, she removed the straw from the glass, dropped it on the table, and gulped the contents of the glass in one go.“The hell?” My brows shot up, but I said nothing. She cleaned her mouth with her arm and turned to where Katrina was writing down an order.“Another one!” she yelled, and Kat's head lifted from what she was doing to face us. S

CALISTA“Cal.” Sera's voice trembled from the speaker. “I never knew he was the man you kept telling me about. If I had known he was your stepfather… I would have created a distance between us.”“You never sent a picture of how he looked. All you've talked about is your hatred towards him and how you never wanted to be in his life.” She let out a shaky breath and continued. “I will never do something that will destroy the precious bond we have together. So… please, I beg you to forgive me.”If it were other times, I would have done so.I stared at the phone on the dressing table in silence. After a while, I turned and walked to the wardrobe. Opening the doors, my eyes skimmed through the dresses, and I picked one, walking over to the bed and throwing it there.“Let's meet tonight,” I said, walking to the dressing table and pulling one of the drawers. Inside was a key. I grabbed it and closed the drawer. “This isn't something we can talk about over the phone.”“O-okay, where is the pla
