Parker's POV
Pain. That was the first thing I felt as soon as I woke up that morning. My soft king-sized bed did little or nothing to ease the many aches I was having all over my body.
The ache was due to the fact that I had gotten into a fight again, the third within the week and had to sleep in the police cell uncomfortable bed till my mom came to bail me out. I couldn't help it, it was all a part of me.
I couldn't stand and watch people throw insults at my family just because we were victims of circumstance. What befell us wasn't our fault. My dad just needed something, anything else that could better our lives.
I couldn't and wouldn't blame him for that because he never knew we would get swindled. Even though we lost everything back in the states, we were not deterred because if there was one thing we had, it was hope. Hope that everything will get better and hope that one day, we would recover all we'd lost.
I blinked slowly, trying to get my eyes used to the early morning sunlight that streamed through the curtains. It was a brand new day, another day to avoid everything and everyone well except one girl, Amanda.
Ever since I got to Stars High, Amanda intrigued me like no one else. The look of innocence and fierceness I saw in her was what drew me to her that fine morning. Though she might like to act all innocent and gentle but I could see a raging fire within her that would come out one day.
No matter how much I tried to get her off my mind, she still kept coming back and when she did, it just seemed like she was a new entity, someone I'd never seen before.
I yawned, stretching languidly on my bed but that proved to be a mistake because with it came with several aches. I groaned, rising up to sit on my bed.
The weather was a bit cool and I loved it. Ever since I got here, LA weather has been a mixture of hot and cold. I never slept with a shirt on, never ever no matter how cold the weather was. Instead, I would cover myself with a blanket so thick I would end up discarding it.
Times without number, my mom had complained that I would catch a cold but I would never listen because I was damn too stubborn.
Amanda. That name filled my mind yet again. I didn't know if it was love I felt for her but one thing was sure, I was attracted to her. Come to think of it, who wouldn't? She was the star girl, loved by all well except Ian and his friends but I knew they were just jealous and the only way they could show her was by bullying her.
That was something I wouldn't stand for. I would never stand back and watch them hurt her in anyway. Sometimes, when I looked at her, I just wanted to hold her like a baby and protect her from the outside world.
"What are you doing to me Amanda?"
I sighed, rubbing my eyes to get out the remaining sleep. It was another school day and another day to face the teachers who all thought I was a bully.
"Parker, wake up. It's time for school." My mum yelled.
Being an only child, she took care of me so well and it was only a miracle I wasn't a spoilt brat like some of the other kids I've seen. Dad was out as usual, trying to fix the many leaks we had in our lives. What happened to us broke him, I can tell and it was just our unity that made him strong.
"I'm up mom." I said.
I sighed yet again, rising to my feet. I needed to get to school on time if I didn't want to be late. The distance from my house to the school was a bit far and the earlier I got there, the better for me.
I took my bath, welcoming the icy cold water that cascaded down my body. It was a relief from the aches I was feeling. There was just something about cold water that just had the ability to calm you down.
I dressed up quickly before stepping out of my room. I've never been one to bother so much on what I wore. As far as I was comfortable, I was fine with that.
"Hi Mom, good morning." I said, kissing my mother on the cheek.
She was currently sat at the dining table, sipping a hot cup of coffee. Try as I may, I couldn't quite understand how she drank coffee without milk or sugar. It was all black.
"Good morning love. Did you sleep well?" She smiled.
Her hair, the color of a setting sun was tied in a loose ponytail. My mother was a beautiful woman and it was no secret that I got most of my looks from her. I got my height from my dad and both combination had girls chasing after me, girls who thought they loved me when it was just a mere infatuation.
"Yes mom, I did. Dad's out?" I asked.
I dished out a healthy portion of pancake on my plate, coming over to sit on the chair opposite her. I dug in, reveling in the taste and pleasure it brought.
"Yeah, he is." She said.
She was scrolling through her phone, no doubt looking through the recent trends across the country. Since we moved to LA she was lucky to have seen a job working as a writer for one of the biggest news agency in the state.
Writing was something that came to my mom effortlessly. She did it with so much dexterity that at times, I begin to wonder if she was human.
"Darling, when you're heading home later today, I need you to branch the Mart for some tomatoes. I want to make some spaghetti later." She smiled, looking up from her phone.
She knew spaghetti and meatballs were my favorite. I could actually eat that a whole week without getting tired, it was just something I loved.
"Sure Mom." I said, rising up to my feet.
I washed my plate immediately because I knew how much my mom hates seeing dirty plates in the sink.
"Be good and please Parker for the love of God, stay out of trouble. I don't want to bail you again, yesterday was a nightmare on it's own." She sighed.
She knew all about my fights and when she came to bail me from the police station yesterday, I've never felt so relieved. My Mom covered up for me when my Dad took notice of the wounds where they were visible.
"Mom, you know I don't go about looking for trouble." I chuckled, grabbing my bag.
She rolled her eyes before moving her attention back to what she was reading on her phone. I kissed her head, smiling before walking out of the house.
It was another day and I really hoped everything went well especially with me and the girl I was beginning to fall in love with.
The next morning, the school was restless. As Amanda walked through the halls, she had no idea why this was so. She made her way to the locker room, depositing her bag and books before making her way to her first class. On her way, she met Emily who was to attend another class. "What's happening?" Amanda asked."You haven't heard. Parker's been released, he's at the principal's office. Apparently, the gist is that the real murderer was caught yesterday while trying to escape the city. Parker's off the hook." Emily said."That's good. At least, we're not going to school with a murderer." Amanda said."Honestly. I have to run now babe, I'm running late. See you and oh, Leslie's coming back tomorrow.""Yeah, she called me yesterday. See ya." Amanda said.On getting to class, Parker was already seated in his usual seat at the back of the class. Ian and his friends crowded round him, no doubt trying to scoop for gist. Amanda settled in her chair and soon, a shadow fell over her. Looking
Amanda's POVSchool that day went by in a blur. The only thing that seemed interesting was the school's debate preparation I was currently handling. I was going to be the lead speaker and to say I was nervous would be an understatement, I was downright jittery.Of course, I'd already spoken in some debate shows in the past but this is the largest because several schools across the state would be converging in our grand hall. The debate would be holding the following week and preparations were already in top gear."Babe, cut it out. You're feeling nervous." Emily chuckled. The girls were currently at lunch break, discussing about the debate. "Can you blame be Em? This is by far going to be the biggest I've ever participated in." I smiled"But you'll do great. I'm sure about that." Leslie giggled."Les, how's your dad doing?" Emily asked.Ever since her mother's death, Leslie's father had been trying to hold on to the last remnant of sanity he had. Even a blind man could see how much t
"Hurry up Em." Amanda said for the third time that evening. They were going to be late to the concert just because Emily couldn't decide on what to wear even though she bought three different gowns. They were going to the annual concert which was holding this weekend and Ariana couldn't afford to miss it. She had told Leslie and Emily about Parker's odd behaviour two days ago. Even up until now, she still wondered what came over that day. It just seemed like he was in another body."But you just got new clothes, there are even more in your wardrobe." Amanda said"But the colors look as if they're off." She sighed, walking into the room where Emily was having a hard time deciding on what to wear. Amanda picked up one of the gowns, handing it over to her."Here, wear this. It's much better. "she said, handing the dress over to her. "You're sure?" Emily beamed.Amanda laughed, rolling her eyes. She knew Emily could be dramatic but this was just overboard."Now hurry up or we won't get s
"How was the concert?" Amanda's mum said over breakfast the following day."It was fine mum. Though I really didn't like it so well it's Emily that dragged me but to be honest, I kind of enjoyed it just a bit." she said, sipping her cup of tea."When I was your age, I really loved boy bands. They were called Mirage then but now, they've broken up but boy, could they play. I met your father on one of my outings." She blushed."Oh, so that's how you and Dad met." Amandaaughed."Yes and the rest is history then we had you, the most beautiful child." she said."I feel so special." Amanda laughed."You are. So darling, I'll be traveling next week. I need to sort out some things that need my attention urgently." she said."Oh okay, would dad be traveling too?" She asked."I don't think so. He'll be here for a while before he has to go anywhere." She said.Just then, her dad walked into the kitchen still in his pajamas. He had a sleep filled look in his eyes and Arianna could tell that he ha
"Guys, you wouldn't believe what happened." Amanda said. They were on a lunch break, it was the same day Parker made his stupid proposal. Amanda toyed with her lunch, thinking about what he said."Give the gist girl, what's up." Emily said.Amanda related all that had happened to them. Thinking about it now, she couldn't understand why Parker would propose an idea in that manner. Did he really think she was cheap and easy to sway?"To be honest, this guy has got some boldness." Emily said, stabbing her chicken."I agree. But Am, are you going to be his date for prom?" Leslie asked."To be honest girls, i don't really know." Amanda said."You can't be considering it. Remember what we talked about on our way from the concert, don't let this guy take your mind. He's not good for you."Emily said."She's right. I totally agree with her on this one. Parker is a no no and the earlier you run away from him, the better for you darling." Leslie said.Amanda knew they were right but everytime sh
So far so good, Amanda had been enjoying her conversation with the Jeffersons. The Jeffersons children were so funny and down to earth. Not one moment had she felt awkward and left out of the conversation. Asides this, Mr and Mrs Jefferson were also fans of the boy band, the same people Amanda and Emily went to for their concert."Oh, you attended the concert?" Mr Jefferson asked."Yes sir, I did. I'm a really huge fan", Amanda said."That's awesome. Me too." Austin said.Austin was the Jeffersons second son and an elder brother to the twin girls who were only eight years old. He had salt and pepper hair, just like his father and when he smiled, he had a cute dimple at the side of his face."I've been a loyal fan since I got to know them. Wait till you meet my friend, Emily, she's a die hard fan." Amanda laughed."The boy band just have a way of infecting you with their good vibes." Austin said.Later on, more guests arrived at the Jefferson's new home bearing gifts and well wishes. A
Amanda and her parents spent another hour at the Jefferson’s before calling it a day. They left soon with much appreciation from them. Just before she left, she exchanged numbers with Austin who promised to keep in touch. He seemed like a fairly nice boy hence her main reason to give him her number. They got home soon and Amanda retired for the night. To say she was tired would be an understatement, she was sleepy coupled with the fact that she had to get up on time for school tomorrow. ‘’Bed so soon?’’ her mother asked.‘’Yes mom. I’m exhausted.’’ Amanda said.‘’Aww. Do take some rest honey.’’ her father said.‘’Will do but first not without taking some ice cream.’’ she grinned. She chuckled, making her way towards the kitchen. There was nothing like a bowl of ice cream before you slept. Grabbing the bowl from the fridge, Amanda served a healthy portion in her bowl before making her way upstairs. Her parents remained in the living room, talking about their work and everything they n
At the school the next day, Amanda was prepared to ignore every one of Parker's or Ian's attempts to make her feel miserable. All she wanted to do was get by her day without bothering about anything that might happen.‘’Hey babe.’’ Emily called.Emily was the only one bold enough to shout in the hallway. The teachers had cautioned her several times but Emily never seemed to listen. ‘’Hi.’’ Amanda grinned.‘’Oh look at you. All shiny and beautiful. What’s your secret? Do you have a boyfriend now?’’ she grinned.‘’Oh please you know i don’t.’’ Amanda laughed. They made their way towards the lockers in preparation of their first class of the day. They had the first class together, all through the day. ‘’Well I hope you do. You know, you and Parker would be really good together.’’ Emily chuckled.‘’No can do. We would never be good for each other.’’ Amanda snapped. She didn’t want to hear anything concerning him. She was ready to face him if he so much as gave her any troubles. Amanda k
