In the bathroom, Mu Nuannuan looked at her sallow skin in the mirror self-deprecatingly.

She used a toner, which she had taken out from a cabinet under the sink, and began to remove her makeup. A few minutes later, a woman with fair skin and bright, beautiful eyes appeared in the mirror. If she had not stayed in a rented house after graduation and removed her makeup every day, Mu Nuannuan would have nearly forgotten what she looked like.

It was natural for mothers to feel happy about having a beautiful daughter. However, Xiao Chuhe always reproached Mu Nuannuan for stealing the limelight from Mu Wanqi, and she never bought her pretty clothes. So, Mu Nuannuan did everything she could to please her mom.

She fell from first place to last in her studies and went from a campus babe to an ugly duckling without friends. Yet, that did not move Xiao Chuhe one bit. Still, she did not believe that her mother did not love her.

There was an added hint of asceticism on his expressionless face. After a moment, she said, “I’m going out. Call somebody to send you back.”

There was no response, and Mu Nuannuan could not have cared less. She grabbed her bag and headed out the door. She quit her last job because her mom wanted her to get married. She now needed a job to support herself.

It was almost noon. Mu Nuannuan was standing at a bus stop when a black vehicle stopped in front of her. As its window was wound down, a young man with a bright smile poked his head out. “Nuannuan, where are you going?”

A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes. She could not hide the happiness in her voice. “Shen Chuhan? Why are you here?”

“Get in. I can’t stop my car here for too long.” While he spoke, Shen Chuhan opened the door for her.

The minute Mu Nuannuan got into the vehicle and closed the door, Shen Chuhan said, “I’m going to have lunch with your elder sis. Please, join us.”

He was dating Mu Wanqi? She should have known. People said that Mu Wanqi and Shen Chuhan were a match made in heaven, but they never visibly got together. Hence, she still kept her admiration for him to herself and befriended him.

“I have stuff to do. Maybe next time…” Mu Nuannuan said with a frozen expression.

“We haven't hung out for a long time. Come on, don’t decline my invitation,” Shen Chuhan insisted, not giving her the opportunity to reject.

When they arrived at the restaurant, Mu Wanqi was already there. Seeing Mu Nuannuan enter with Shen Chuhan, her face collapsed.

“Wanqi, guess what, I bumped into Nuannuan on my way here, so I took the liberty to invite her to join us. Do you mind?” asked Shen Chuhan, not noticing the expression on Mu Wanqi’s face.

“Of course, not.” Mu Wanqi put on a plastic smile.

“Please, excuse me. I need to go to the washroom for a moment,” Shen Chuhan said with a smile and left.

The moment he went away, the smile on Mu Wanqi’s face crumpled. “Well, well, well... The cripple must have failed to satisfy you. Now you’re trying to get your hands on Chuhan?”
