Amanda’s POV

At first, I thought it was just stress.

Ryan had been working longer hours than usual, early mornings, late nights, phone calls that ended in sighs. But lately, it felt like he wasn’t just tired… he was somewhere else entirely.

He’d drift off in the middle of a conversation, eyes distant, mind far away. When I asked if something was wrong, he’d smile and tell me he was fine.

Except he wasn’t.

I could see it in the way he avoided my eyes when he came to the house to see us. The way his hugs grew shorter, colder, like he was afraid of holding me too long.

Something was slipping between us, and I didn’t even know what it was.

That evening, I found him in the Garden, staring at a document he hadn’t touched for almost half an hour. His jaw was tight, fingers tapping restlessly against the paper.

"Ryan." I said softly, leaning against the table. "You’ve been quiet all week. Talk to me."
