ANGELA’S POV

I slipped past the dancing crowd before anyone could corner me, before Julius could collect the last shreds of his pride, before Kimberly could pretend I had accidentally embarrassed her. Please. That little stunt was on purpose. Let them stew in it.

Halfway across the hall I spotted Ella and Isabella, wrapped up in their own little orbit. Of course they were. Tonight was their night. Eighteen. You could practically see people circling them with congratulations, flirtations, and the casual glory hunting that comes with milestone birthdays.

I threaded through clusters of guests and reached them. They turned together, identical smiles lighting up their faces.

“Happy birthday, you two,” I said, and hugged them both. “Eighteen looks good on you.”

Ella tossed her hair back and laughed. “Finally, right? I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this day.”

“Tell me about it,” Isabella groaned, rolling her eyes. “Maybe now people will stop treating us like kids.”

I grinned. “Good

ANGELA’S POVHonestly, the whole ceremony just passed in a blur. One minute I’m saying “I do,” and the next, his mouth is on mine. It was warm, a little rough, and so real. Way more real than I was prepared for. You know how you expect one of those simple, polite kisses for the crowd? A harmless little moment? Well, he kissed me like he absolutely meant every second of it.When we finally pulled apart, the hall erupted. My mom was crying, Rainey was squealing about “true love,” and Aunt Laila had her hands pressed over her mouth like she’d just seen a miracle. I tried to smile for them, I really did, but my heart was hammering in my chest and wouldn’t quit. And then Aaron looked at me. His eyes were dark but soft around the edges. He was still bleeding near his temple, a thin line of red that, for some reason, no one else seemed to notice.“Angela,” he whispered, just for me, as people started to swarm us. “Stay close, alright?”I just nodded, still feeling a little stunned. “Are you

  • Fate Or Mates   0084:Road To The Altar

AARON’S POVOkay, I was dressed. Every button done, every crease perfect. But honestly, this tie felt like a noose. I didn’t loosen it though. My hands were shaking, which was stupid. It’s not like this was a real wedding, right? So why were my nerves going crazy? But then I pictured Angela. Waiting. Her eyes searching the crowd, her breath caught somewhere between hope and pure fear. That image was the only thing holding me together. I’d promised her I wouldn’t be late. Not today. But you know how it is; fate just loves to mess with your plans.“So you’re really doing this?” Mr. Smith’s voice came from the doorway.“Yes, I am,” I shot back without even thinking. No hesitation. He sighed, walking further into the room until he was right in front of me. “You really are your father’s son. Just as bullheaded.”I had to smile at that. “I’ll take it as a compliment.”I snatched my keys from the nightstand and headed out. The moment my car turned onto that forest road leading to the ceremon

  • Fate Or Mates   0083: Bloody Good Excuse

ANGELA’S POVThe minutes dragged like hours. The laughter and music outside had started to fade, replaced by uneasy whispers that slipped through the walls like cold air. Every time the door opened, my heart jumped, hoping someone had come to tell me he was here. But it was never him, and each time my stomach sank a little deeper. My hands would not stop shaking. The bouquet Jace brought earlier suddenly felt too heavy, the stems slippery in my trembling fingers. The petals did not even look pretty anymore. Mom was pacing the room with her phone glued to her ear, muttering something I could not hear, while Dad stood by the window pretending to stay calm. But I knew that look. He was worried too.And honestly, I couldn’t help but think something had happened to him. What if it was because of me? What if getting him involved in my lie had put him in danger? Maybe he had changed his mind, maybe he had realized this was all too much. No. I refused to let my mind go there. He couldn’t be g

  • Fate Or Mates   0082: Delayed Drama

ANGELA’S POVI sat at the edge of the vanity table, clutching my phone like it could give me answers if I stared hard enough. “He’s probably just… running late,” I said under my breath, more to convince myself than anyone else.Rainey came back in first, holding the edge of her dress so she wouldn’t trip. “Still no sign of the groom?”I shook my head, forcing a weak smile. “Not yet. Maybe his car broke down or something.”She raised a brow. “Twice? You’ve called him like, what, five times already?”“Four,” I muttered. “And maybe he’s just nervous.”Aunt Laila walked in behind her, looking far less amused. “Nervous or not, it’s bad manners to keep the entire pack waiting. Does he know how many people are out there?”“Mom,” I said quietly, “please don’t start.”But her voice softened when she saw the look on my face. “Sorry, sweetheart. I just don’t want you standing there alone when they start asking questions.”My heart twisted at that. The image hit me hard — me, in this white dress,

Angela’s POVJust as I was about to take a deep breath and calm my racing heart, there was another knock on the door. This time it was Drew, my other cousin. His voice carried through the crack in the door, low and teasing. “Is the bride finally ready? Everyone’s starting to gather, and Mom’s about to send a search party.”Rainey rolled her eyes while Aunt Laila called out, “She’s ready, Drew! We’ll be down in a few minutes. Tell everyone to stop panicking.”Drew poked his head in anyway, grinning like he owned the place. “Just making sure. Don’t wanna be the one to explain to Aaron why his bride’s running late on their big day.”Rainey groaned. “You and Jace are impossible. Go on, both of you! We’ve got finishing touches to do.”Jace, who was still lingering by the door, made a face. “Alright, alright. Don’t mess up her makeup, Rainey.”“Out!” she said, waving them off dramatically. The boys laughed their way down the hall, their voices fading as the door clicked shut behind them.Ra

  • Fate Or Mates   0080:High Anxiety

ANGELA’S POVIt was finally the wedding day. The air smelled like roses and hairspray, and honestly, I couldn’t tell which was stronger. My mom was fussing over my hair, Rainey was hovering with a makeup brush in hand, and Aunt Laila was on her knees, tugging at the bottom of my dress to get the folds just right. To everyone else, this was the day. The big, beautiful, real wedding. But to me, it felt like a lie wrapped in lace and soft music. A pretend marriage to a pretend mate. Still, looking around at their glowing faces, I couldn’t bring myself to ruin it.“Hold still, sweetheart,” Mom said, gently twisting another strand of my hair into the bun she’d been perfecting for the past ten minutes. “You keep moving like that, I’ll have to start over.”I tried to smile. “Sorry. Just… nerves, I guess.”“You guess?” Rainey said with a teasing grin, dabbing a soft shimmer on my eyelids. “You’re about to walk down the aisle, Angie. You’re allowed to be nervous.”Aunt Laila chuckled from behi
