ANGELA’S POV

I saw Julius the second he walked in with Kellan. It wasn’t even dramatic. My chest gave a quick thud, like my heart was trying to trip me, but I pushed it down. Straightened my shoulders. Smiled. Moved. No hesitation, no pause to think if it was smart or not.

“There you are,” I said lightly, stopping in front of him. “I was looking for you.”

His eyes flickered with surprise for a second before he masked it, his expression turning neutral. But I caught it. And honestly, that tiny reaction was all the confidence I needed to keep my smile right where it was.

Julius’s expression softened as he looked at me. “Happy birthday, Angela,” he said, his voice smooth but careful, as if he was testing the waters.

“Yeah, happy birthday,” Kellan added with a warm grin. “You look amazing, by the way. The party’s incredible. The Luna really outdid herself this time.”

I smiled, nodding in appreciation. “Thank you, both of you.”

Kellan chuckled, glancing between us. “Well, I’ll leave you tw

  • Fate Or Mates   0168:A Walk Through Thorns

Aaron’s POVThe movement was so sudden, so desperate, it broke the terrible trance that held David and me. Her name tore from my throat. It was a raw, ragged sound. But she was already gone. She vanished down the path back toward the pack house. The forest swallowed the sound of her fleeing footsteps.Every instinct in my body screamed to go after her. To chase her. To catch her. To pull her into my arms and… and what? What could I possibly say? I’m sorry my parents’ murderer is your father? The bond between us was a screaming chorus of her pain.It was a tsunami of betrayal and revulsion so strong it nearly brought me to my knees. She wasn’t just running from David. She was running from the blood that connected them. From the man who loved her, but who now represented the destroyer of everything. My gaze snapped back to David. He was sliding down the trunk of the oak tree, dissolving into silent, heaving sobs, his face buried in his hands. The sight of him, the cause of all this ruin

  • Fate Or Mates   0167: The Secret Is Out

AARON’S POVThe air just before dawn was cold. It was a gray kind of cold, heavy with the promise of rain and the smell of wet dirt. It fit the heaviness I carried inside.I walked toward the cleared circle of ground at the edge of the training field. My steps felt too loud. Each one was like a drumbeat leading me to a place I never wanted to be. I was not just ending Kimberly's life today. I was cutting the last string of not knowing. I was stepping all the way into the nightmare where the father of my mate was the man who killed my parents. The guards fell into step behind me. They were quiet. Respectful. A few senior warriors were already waiting at the edge of the circle, and they nodded to me, their faces solemn. I kept my own face like stone. Inside, it was all cracks. Then there was a sound. A commotion from the crowd. A figure broke from the path that led from the guest quarters, running. His steps were uneven. It was David Hunters. He skidded to a stop right in front of me, h

  • Fate Or Mates   0166: Broody's Big Secret

ANGELA’S POVThe afternoon had gone quiet and slow. I stayed with my mom for most of it. We didn’t talk much. We just sat, and the silence felt like its own kind of weight. After she finally drifted off, I came back to our room. I felt empty. I was curled by the window, watching the light get thick and golden, when the door opened. Aaron came in.My heart did that thing it always does, that little leap at the sight of him. Then it dropped. Just sank. Something was wrong. He moved stiffly, like he was tired in every bone. He didn’t come to me. He just stood there, his eyes fixed on nothing, somewhere far away. Our bond usually feels like a low, steady warmth. Now it felt jagged. There was a turbulence coming from him, a dark and churning storm I couldn’t see. It wasn’t anger. It was heavier than that. It felt like grief and rage, all twisted into one knot. It’s everything. Kimberly. My dad. The shame of it all. It’s pressing down on him. Of course it is.“Hey,” I said softly. I uncurle

  • Fate Or Mates   0165:My Reality Breaking

AARON’S POVShe smiled. It was a thin, cruel slash. She leaned back against the wall, the picture of smug satisfaction staring back at me. “Come now, Alpha. Do better than that. You think I spent all my years skulking around the edges of power and didn’t pick up a few secrets? Little whispers traded in dark corners when people forget the poor Omega girl is there.”The cold inside me ignited into a white-hot fire. A snarl ripped from my throat, a sound more beast than man. I crossed the cell in two strides, my hand shooting out to grip the front of her tunic. I hauled her up until her feet barely scraped the floor, slamming her back against the stone wall.“Tell me,” I growled, my face inches from hers. My control, my icy calm, was gone, vaporized. The ghost of woodsmoke and blood, the scent of my family’s burning car, filled my nose. “You tell me what you know. Right now.”She gasped, her hands clawing at my wrist, but the fear in her eyes was mixed with a hideous glee. She had me. Sh

  • Fate Or Mates   0164: Extra Trauma

AARON’S POVThe morning sun was warm on my back as I walked out, leaving Angela in the quiet dining room. Watching her eat, seeing her force down each bite, it took everything I had not to go straight down to the dungeon and tear Kimberly apart with my bare hands. The rage wasn’t hot. It was a cold, quiet thing inside me. It didn’t boil. It was just a solid pressure behind my ribs, constant and heavy. But first, I kept my word. I found David in the east wing guest quarters. He was sitting on the edge of a narrow bed, staring at the wall. He looked a hundred years older.“Your mate,” I said. I didn’t bother with a greeting. “She needs you to stay away. She can’t gather her thoughts with you near. She said your love feels like a poison to her now.”He flinched like I’d struck him. The last flicker of hope in his eyes snuffed out. He just nodded, a broken, mechanical motion. “I understand,” he rasped.“Do you?” My voice was low. “She’s hollowed out, David. The woman you love is gone. You

  • Fate Or Mates   0163:Bitter Taste Of Truth

Angela’s POV“Mom,” he said, his voice low and gentle. No force in it at all. “I am so very sorry for your pain.”My mom’s gaze lifted from the teacup to his face. She looked at him for a long time, like she was really seeing him, not just as the Alpha, but as the man who loved her daughter. Another tear slipped out.“You kept my daughter safe,” she said, her voice a ragged whisper. “When her own father’s choices put her in danger. Thank you.”Hearing her thank him for that, when it was my dad’s job, it was another little crack in the world. Aaron just gave one solemn nod. He didn’t brush it off. “It is my life’s purpose,” he said, simple and true. He glanced at me, a question in his eyes.“We’re just having some tea,” I said. “Join us?”He sat down beside me, keeping his energy calm and steady. He didn’t try to fill the silence with chatter. He was just there. A solid presence. He poured himself a glass of water, and the clink of the pitcher seemed really loud in the quiet. My mom fi
