Chapter 3

Author: Crystal K
In the memory, I vanished into the night with the Heart of the Moon.

A fresh wave of fury erupted in the cell.

“She stole our sacred artifact!”

“Traitor! For an Alpha from another pack!”

“She brought shame to this pack!”

That last accusation struck Lachlan like a physical blow.

His wolf howled in agony at the mere thought of my betrayal. A crushing wave of his Alpha power spiraled out of control, making it hard for the others to breathe.

SLAP!

A sharp sting exploded across my face.

Sabrina was in front of me, her beautiful face twisted with rage.

"You omega bitch!" she shrieked. "You took the Heart to your secret lover, didn't you? How dare an omega think she's worthy of being an Alpha's fated mate, of having an Alpha's love?"

My cheek burned.

But Lachlan’s eyes hurt more.

"You disappeared for three months," he said, his voice pure ice. "You took the Heart of the Moon and vanished while the whole pack was tearing itself apart looking for you."

"We tore the southern territories apart looking for you!" an elder bellowed. “You went to the Blackstone Pack?! Are you insane?”

I opened my mouth. Still no sound.

I could only watch as the memory continued.

The scene shifted.

Late at night, I arrived alone at the Blackstone Pack's territory.

"Ah, Silvermoon's little Luna," Victor Thorne said with a sly grin.

His eyes flashed with a predator's greed. “Did you bring me what I want?”

I placed the Heart of the Moon before him.

"Let Richard go, and it's yours."

Victor picked up the artifact, stroking it. “So this is the relic that strengthens a wolf's soul, that keeps the Silvermoon Pack unbeatable in the Council? With this, my Blackstone bloodline will no longer be second to yours. I can release him.”

For a fleeting moment, I thought I had saved them.

But he wasn't a man of his word.

"However," he smirked, "I think a little more... payment is required."

The next scene left every wolf in the dungeon breathless.

On the night of the full moon, I was bound to a stone pillar with silver-laced chains.

The agony of a blocked transformation tore through me. My bones broke and reset, over and over, but the silver chains held my human form in place.

My wolf wailed inside me.

And Victor Thorne, that vile Alpha, stood by and watched me suffer.

He used his Alpha command to force my head down—forcing me to submit to him, when I belonged only to Lachlan.

“Sign these treaties,” he said, tossing a stack of papers at my feet. “From now on, the Silvermoon Pack will give my pack half of its hunt each year. You will also cede the northern forests. Your people are forever banned from my lands.”

“You’re dreaming!”

“Then let Richard rot in a Council prison.”

My hand trembled as I picked up the pen.

For Lachlan's father, for the Silvermoon Pack, I signed the treaties. I signed away generations of their pride and honor.

Seeing this, the dungeon fell silent.

The angry shouts vanished, replaced by heavy, ragged breaths.

Lachlan’s fists were clenched.

I could feel his wolf whimpering inside him, grieving for the pain I'd been forced to endure.

His furious Alpha aura filled the cell, but his reason was still trapped by hatred.

“Why…” his voice trembled. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

I looked at him, my vision blurred by tears.

If I had told him, with his proud Alpha nature, he would have stopped at nothing to get revenge for me, even if it meant starting a devastating war.

I couldn't let him do that.

I couldn't be the one to destroy the Silvermoon Pack.

“Enough!” Sabrina’s shriek broke the suffocating silence. “She’s just putting on a show! Trying to get sympathy!”

She turned to Lachlan, her voice turning soft and persuasive again. “Darling, give her the last dose. Let’s just end this.”

The elders nodded in agreement.

“Yes, end this farce!”

“Make her confess why she really killed the former Alpha and Luna!”

Lachlan picked up the third vial, his hand shaking slightly.

“Anya, last chance,” he rasped. “Tell me the truth.”

I looked into his eyes.

I saw pain, confusion, and a tiny… almost invisible flicker of warmth.

But I knew some truths would only hurt him more.

I didn’t answer. I met his gaze, shook my head one last time... and took the vial from his hand, swallowing the final dose myself.

Lachlan burst into the room, his eyes blazing with hope.I looked at him weakly. Even blinking took all my strength."Sabrina..." he took a deep breath. "She's the only one who can save you."My eyes widened. I shook my head with all my might."Just listen," he said, gripping my hand. "It's a blood ritual. A dark magic contract that would chain your life to hers. Her life force would sustain you.""No," I rasped."Why?" he asked desperately. "As long as you can live...""She... killed... your parents." Each word was a knife in my throat. "I don't... want... her... pity.""This isn't pity, it's survival!""I would rather die," I breathed, "than be chained to the monster who killed your parents."Lachlan was silent for a long time."Then I will die with you," he finally stated, his voice flat with resolve. "I cannot live in a world without you.""No," I forced my eyes open. "You have to... live.""What's the point of living without you?" His tears fell onto my face. "Anya, I can't lose y

The moment the truth was revealed, the world seemed to stop.Lachlan knelt in the spreading pool of my blood, holding me tight.Sabrina’s screams, the elders’ arguments, the guards’ shouts—it all faded away. The only thing I could hear was his heartbeat."Anya..." His voice was broken. "I'm so sorry.""It's okay," I whispered. "You know the truth now.And everyone knows the truth now. That's exactly what I wanted.""I was so stupid," he cried, his tears falling onto my face. "I should have trusted you. I should have—""Shh." I reached up and gently touched his cheek. "It's over."Just then, his fingers brushed against my wrist.Faint, but it was there. A pulse."She's alive!" he shouted. "She can be saved!"Before anyone could react, he scooped me into his arms and bolted from the silver cells."Healers!" he roared, running through the pack streets. "Get me healers!"He held me so tightly, whispering frantic apologies the whole way.“I’m sorry,” he choked out, his voice thick with unshe

My blood spread across the floor.ALL LIES.The two words stunned everyone into silence.Lachlan held me, tears of regret finally breaking free."Anya, I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..." he choked out. "Whatever you have to say, I'll believe you."The Memory Tears didn't lie.But fragmented scenes don't tell the whole truth.Behind Lachlan, Sabrina watched me with cold eyes. She mouthed a silent warning.Don't bother. The three doses are gone. Your truth dies with you. From now on, my story is the only truth they'll ever know. You'll be the villain for eternity!I managed a weak, bloody smile. With my last bit of strength, I reached for the inside pocket of Lachlan’s suit jacket."What are you doing?" he asked, confused. My fingers brushed against a familiar metal flask. The one I’d given him. A small, elegant flask engraved with our initials. But it wasn't liquor now.It was the fourth dose. Richard had pressed it into my hand just before he died."If the truth is ever buried," he'd told m

The final dose ripped through me like an explosion. The deepest memory was finally ripped from my soul. The timeline jumped back to the night Lachlan left.I was heading to my room when I saw a faint light from under the study door.I pushed it open. I found Richard in his study. He was sitting at his desk, a silver pistol pressed to his temple."Don't!" I lunged, snatching the gun away. "What are you doing?""Anya..." Richard looked at me, his eyes filled with despair. “The Moon Goddess let me save you only to remind me of my sin,” he whispered. “A sin for which there is no atonement.”I had no idea what he was talking about.Richard was known throughout the werewolf world for his kindness and strength. He’d started a foundation to support families hurt by pack conflicts. But his next words made my blood run cold.He collapsed back into his chair, tears streaming down his face."It was me," he choked out. "It was all my fault.""What are you talking about?""The Feral Curse..." He cho

The third dose felt like lava in my veins. This time, the pain nearly tore my soul to shreds. But I didn’t care anymore. The memory illusion appeared again. One year ago, on the top-floor garden, bathed in moonlight.Lachlan was on one knee before me, holding the Moonstone necklace."Anya, be my Luna," he breathed, his eyes shining. "Let me spend the rest of my life loving you."The necklace glittered like a fallen constellation."Yes," I whispered, tears in my eyes. "Always."He spun me around, his laughter echoing in the night air."We'll be together forever," he whispered in my ear. "To the end of the world."Scoffs and jeers echoed in the silver cell."Look at the lying bitch. A born actress.""Thinking about another man the whole time!"But the memory continued.Three days later, Lachlan was dressed to leave."The territory negotiations in the north are important," he said, kissing my forehead. "When I get back, we'll have our mating ceremony.""Be careful," I said, holding him ti
