Special ability

"My grandfather was a werewolf although he didn't pass it down to my mother and I didn't become one, but you did," she said, looking at me with concern.

I couldn't believe it. So I really had a heritage of it? It was a lot to take in.

But why didn't you tell me before? Why keep it a secret?" I asked, feeling a bit hurt.

"I didn't want to scare you. I thought it would also skip my generation, or that you might not inherit it at all. I didn't want you to grow up feeling like you were different," my mom explained.

I understood her reasoning, but I still felt a bit angry. I had the right to know about my own heritage, didn't I?

"I understand, but I still wish you had told me. It would have saved me a lot of confusion and fear," I said, feeling a bit emotional.

"I'm sorry, Sophia. We were just trying to protect you," my mom said, sounding apologetic.

I took a deep breath, feeling a bit calmer.

"So, what do I do now? How do I control this... werewolf thing?" I asked, feeling curious.

My mom smiled, looking relieved.

"I'll help you. We'll figure it out together," she said, sounding determined.

And with those words, I felt a sense of relief. I wasn't alone anymore. I had my mom to help me navigate this new and scary world of werewolves.

And who knows? Maybe one day, I would even learn to embrace my werewolf side and use it to help others, just like I had helped Kelvin.

Days turned into weeks, and Kelvin and I grew closer as we kept my secret safe.

However, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I needed to know more about my new self.

I needed to learn how to control my transformation and how to live a normal life while also being a werewolf.

One evening, while I was studying in my room, my mother, Jane, walked in, looking serious.

"Sophia, we need to talk," she said, sitting down next to me on my bed.

"What's wrong, mom?" I asked, sensing that something was troubling her.

"I've been doing some research, and I think it's time for you to attend a werewolf academy," she said, looking at me intently.

"A werewolf academy?" I repeated, feeling a mixture of excitement and nervousness.

"Yes." "It's a school for werewolves, where you can learn more about your powers and how to control them," she explained.

I was torn. On the one hand, I wanted to learn more about being a werewolf, but on the other hand, I didn't want to leave Kelvin and my friends behind.

"Can't I just learn from books or something?" I asked hesitantly.

"It's not the same, Sophia." At the academy, you'll be surrounded by others like you who understand what you're going through.

"You'll have experienced teachers who can guide you, and you'll be able to practice your powers in a safe environment," my mother explained.

I thought about it for a moment, and then I nodded. "Okay, I'll go." "But where is this academy?"

"I've found one that's not too far from here." "It's called the Silvermoon Academy, and it's highly respected in the werewolf community," she said, handing me a brochure.

I flipped through the pages, my eyes widening in amazement. The academy looked like a castle straight out of a fairy tale, with sprawling gardens and impressive architecture.

"When do I start?" I asked eagerly.

"In two weeks' time." "We'll need to make the necessary arrangements, and you'll need to pack your things," my mother said, smiling at me.

For the next two weeks, I couldn't stop thinking about the academy. I spent most of my time reading up on werewolf history, trying to prepare myself for what lay ahead.

Kelvin was supportive, but I could tell that he was worried about me leaving.

Finally, the day arrived when I was set to leave for the academy.

My parents drove me there, and as we pulled up to the castle gates, my heart raced with excitement and nervousness.

As I walked through the gates, I saw other werewolves milling about, some in human form and others in their wolf forms.

I felt a sense of belonging that I had never felt before.

Before it was even a month, I had already learned so much at the academy and about being a werewolf.

One of the first things I learned was about the different rankings of werewolves.

Next, we all had a personal teacher assigned to us in order to learn how to shift easily and come back to our human form.

At first, it was really difficult for me to control my transformation. But with the help of the teacher, I was able to learn.

One day, while we were training in the woods, information got to us that a girl was missing in the academy and it has already been two days since her disappearance.

The whole school was in chaos, and the teachers left us to have a meeting concerning that but while they were still on it, I thought I should do something myself and that was how I discovered that I had a special ability of tracking.

Within split seconds, I had already tracked down where the girl was and told the teachers.

" Are you serious? Is that where she is?" They probed.

" Yes, I can feel and see that. If we go now, we would be able to free her from the kidnappers and bring her back safely" I replied.

A plan was made on how to rescue her and soon enough, she was back to the academy with us.

My special ability then became a news in the Academy, and the teachers couldn't help singing my praise.

" You're really a special breed…. This ability of yours is very rare and superb" one of them appreciated.

"Who knows, it might not be the only gift. You could discover more as time goes on" the other added.

" You should put it into good use" one of them instructed as I nodded in response feeling all high and happy.

Looking back, I'm grateful that my mother had the foresight to send me to the academy and I now know that being a werewolf is a gift, not a curse.
